<Trendzetter>
i figured I'm probably still doing the PWMERGE incomplete because I log on to the home of the terminal user automatically but I can't use the password. looking into that further now because its probably also the underlying reason I can't use remote desktop
09:51
tried all possible combinations of PWMERGE but still the shadow is probably not containing my password. Now trying PASSWORDS_x

<quinox>
does error does gnome-remote-desktop throw?
14:12
my LTSP image is tied to LDAP, login problems can be annoying because I can't inspect the filesystem. That's why I run with this in my [clients] block: POST_INIT_BRUTEFORCE="echo 'root:foobar' | chpasswd"
14:13
allows me to inspect the shadow / user setup / mounts. etc even if LDAP is failing me
14:13
<alkisg>
!root
14:13
<ltspbot>
I do not know about 'root', but I do know about these similar topics: 'ROOT_PASSWORD_HASH', 'chroot'
14:13
<alkisg>
!ROOT_PASSWORD_HASH
14:13
<ltspbot>
ROOT_PASSWORD_HASH: To be able to login as root in vt1, read the last example in https://ltsp.org/man/ltsp.conf/
14:14
<alkisg>
quinox: it's best to use a hash rather than a plain text password, as the ltsp.conf contents are world-readable
14:16
<quinox>
Thanks. I promote everybody to sudo root after a "don't be a dick, respect privacy" speech so I'm not bothered by the plain text password (also /home is NFS which is ... not secure)
14:19
<alkisg>
It's nice to be able to trust people around you so much :)
14:58
<Trendzetter>
yes, I applied the last part of the man page to have a fixed root password to explore the situation
