Hi, all
08:08
I have a problem with video card 1106:3344 on my LTSP envolviment... Video card is not autodetected, so It takes vesa driver, witch is not so good...
08:09
When I put XSERVER = via, it gives me an error (via_drv.so could not be loaded)... What can I do?

The version of X under ltsp4.2 is 6.9, so it could be that's a newer chipset that the older version of X doesn't know about.

08:45
Have you tried it under ltsp5?
08:47
<Guaraldo>
sbalneav: No, Our DHCP server is not the LTSP server and it was not working very well a fell months ago... Hummm... And what can I do about this??? :-(
08:48
<sbalneav>
This just one terminal?
08:49
Guaraldo: If something DOESN'T work for you guys under ltsp5, you'd better tell us so we can fix it. Because no-one's maintaining ltsp4.2 anymore.

<Guaraldo>
No, All thinClients that have the video card (1106:3344 with lspci -n) have this problem...
08:53
sbalneav: I beleave that Marcelo told you about this problem of DHCP server on LTSP5, didn't he?
08:53
<sbalneav>
Well, that looks like a Unichrome pro.
08:53
No.
08:53
I heard there was some reason why you couldn't use it, but I never heard exactly what it was.
08:53
Here's the problem:
08:55
ltsp4.2 is old. Old X, old other stuff. So, trying to back-port a newer via driver into that is going to be pretty hard, if not impossible. As well, it's wasted effort, because it's expending a lot of man-hours to fix something that's old-news anyway.
08:55
Now, if ltsp5 isn't working for you, a far BETTER solution would be to identify what isn't working, and fix it so that it DOES work for you, so that you can use a newer X.
08:56
Unless you email jammcq, and check and see if he's got some quick fix for you. But I don't know of one.
08:57
We're working on the latest release now, which has HUGE speed improvements, plus a different method of sending out the chroot (via nbd), which improved the speed remarkably.

So, if something isn't working for you, I'd really like to identify what it is, and make sure that we get whatever needs to be fixed, fixed, so that for Gutsy in october, you've got a working solution.

16:35
i use ltsp with Edubuntu 7.04 but i have a problem with the screen resolution on the clients. The resolution is too high and it seems that the X_MODE_0 = 800x600 is not accepted, any idea ?
16:35
i've tried with other drivers too without success
16:44

I'm interested in LTSP5 since it apparently can work over ssh, which is essential
16:45
if i try to set up ltsp on ubuntu it automatically brings down a dhcp server. is it turned on and running by default?

Hello. I hope everyone is well. I have a semi-related question that I hope the gurus here can help me with. I have a newly upgraded k12ltsp V6 server. Just installed FreeNX for remote access as per the mailing list instructions.
20:50
However, this machine is sitting behind a Linux firewall/router that was built by someone before I got involved. That person is no longer around.
20:51
Currently this box will not accept ssh into port 20. How can I get it to accept my freeNX client connection and forward it to the ltsp server?
20:51
Thanks so much.

Port 20?
20:52
ssh is 22.
20:53
That could be your problem?

TheProf, port 20 is an ftp port. If you want to move ssh to a different port than 22, I would pick a port that isn't already in your /etc/services file.
21:10
But if that firewall is blocking other ports, you will have to change the firewall or bypass it.

<TheProf>
sbalneav, I'm sorry I was pulled away by someone asking questions about the lab
21:27
actually they were asking me when would we convert it to windows :)
21:27
reading back my notes - I meant port 22
21:28
but ssh defaults to port 22 so the issue is that the firewall is blocking it

sallygal, I guess my question is how to make the linux box allow through port 22 to the ltsp server
21:49
<sbalneav>
What kind of firewall is this?
21:50
Why not just fix it on the firewall.
21:54
TheProf: Do you have access to the firewall?

Hi all - quickie - does anyone know if LTSP 5 has been integrated with CentOS/RHEL ?
22:14
the web site seems to indicate that it has not been done.
22:14
I'm hoping to find more recent info that says it has been done.. :-)
22:18
<sbalneav>
Nope, not been done yet.
22:18
No one's come forward willing to do the work.
