alkisg: about making the shared-folders a sepparate module... how do you suggest to do it? make a cli app for it and then call this cli from ltsp-manager and sch-scripts? I guess you are much of a shell coder - so it'll probably be in shellscript?
12:13
<alkisg>
enaut[m]: afaik it's already there in ltsp-manager, as a python service
12:13
The different thing will be that now it could become a separate package
12:14
systemctl status shared-folders, stop/start etc should already work
12:14
Playing with group arrays isn't funny in shell, that's why both shared-folders and pamltsp are in python
12:14
<enaut[m]>
ok so you think about making a ltsp-shared-folders.deb file.
12:15
<alkisg>
A shared-folders.deb, yes; unrelated to ltsp
12:15
<enaut[m]>
If you ask me shell is never funny just unreadable :(
12:15
<alkisg>
Hehe, it's hard to run python in initramfs though, so shell has its uses
12:16
And just running command | sed... in python is unreadable too
12:16
<enaut[m]>
yep.
12:18
<alkisg>
I think I'll pause programming until summer though, as I need to focus on some other tasks; I'll catch up in August to prepare 20.04 for schools for September
12:18
<enaut[m]>
But then with the sepparate package. How do we manage the api? like do we just use import shared-folders?
12:18
<alkisg>
Oh no api. You just put things in an /etc file, and restart the service
12:18
Like modifying lighttpd.conf etc
12:19
<enaut[m]>
ok
12:19
<alkisg>
The info is in `getent passwd`; group members for shared folders etc
12:19
In ltsp manager, there's an "enable shared folders" box (I think... maybe I've hidden it when internationalizing sch-scripts, not sure)
12:20
So for each group you want to enable shared folders, you show a checkbox, and you put it to /etc/default/shared-folders if it's checked
12:20
That functionality is already there; I was just planning to separate it to a new package
12:21
<enaut[m]>
it is still there (I just disabled it for the most recent release as all the initial setup might mess up the ltsp19 - as said I'm slow at bash)
12:23
<alkisg>
https://gitlab.com/sch-scripts/sch-scripts/commits/master has english messages, maybe it could help for ltsp19 support
12:23
I.e. the new sch-scripts version; I've deployed it in 6-7 schools
12:25
<enaut[m]>
Thanks for the link I was planning on going through your changes the comming days

<pavars>
Hi, we just did a fresh install of ltsp server and initially some of the clients were booting to a black screen with blinking cursor and some of them got the ubuntu screen for login
14:55
however, now all of them are booting into blinking cursor mode, can someone please point in t]
14:56
in the right direction?
15:09
<alkisg>
ltsp5 or 19?

<pavars>
ltsp5
16:15
<alkisg>
You probably need a newer kernel/xorg in the chroot
16:15
Are they intel clients?
16:15
Or amd?
16:15
etc
16:35
<pavars>
amd
16:35
and running as thin clients
16:36
the thin clients are the same as in other offices and there it's running fine, just here it doesn't want to work
16:49
<alkisg>
Which kernel/xorg in the chroot?
16:49
And which cpu model exactly...
16:49
The other offices may have newer or older kernel/xorg
16:50
If you setup epoptes, I can take a quick look over vnc some time
16:57
<pavars>
there are mixed models
16:57
of fujitsu s550, s700, s900
16:58
it should bee chrootless
16:58
I'm not sure how to run epoptes on a client if we cant even get the ubuntu splash screen
17:01
the other 2 are built in the last 4-5 months time except this one which we installed today
17:02
thing is initially it came up on some clients, but we forgot to add desktop gui :D since it is a server install for software raid etc, and after adding the gui none of the clients get the splash screen anymore
17:06
we will try tomorrow with Fujitsu s720 and build them as fat clients, see if it helps
17:07
also we have ldap server and vpn running on the same server/ machine with ltsp could that be an issue?

pavars: do you have the greek schools ppa in your chroot?
17:22pavars has left IRC (pavars!~pavars@77.89.199.130, Ping timeout: 268 seconds)
17:23
<alkisg>
I'm not sure if you mean that you have a xorg problem, or a "can't reach splash screen" problem; maybe it's a netplan problem after all
17:23
Put the greek schools ppa in your sources

<pavars>
greekschools ppa is in the chrootless sources, will add it tomorrow once I'm back in the office
17:41
the issue is following: the boot image gets picked up from tftp and it loads all the things it needs, then after it's done there should be the ubuntu splash screen login page, but instead of the login page we're just getting a black screen with cursor blinking _
17:50
<alkisg>
!quiet
17:50
<ltsp>
quiet: to enable the Debian kernel and initramfs to show up more messages, in order to better troubleshoot the boot process, remove "quiet" from /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg/default
17:50
<alkisg>
!quiet-splash
17:50
<ltsp>
quiet-splash: to disable the splash screen in Ubuntu, in order to see any boot error messages, run sudo gedit /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg/default and remove quiet splash plymouth:force-splash vt.handoff=7
17:52
<alkisg>
!netplan
17:52
<ltsp>
netplan: To work around https://bugs.launchpad.net/netplan/+bug/1763608/comments/47, either update to a new LTSP version, or put this in lts.conf: INIT_COMMAND_RM_NETPLAN="rm -rf /lib/systemd/system-generators/netplan /run/netplan"
17:54
<pavars>
netplan can bee an issue? is it advised to use NetworkManager?
17:56
thanks, have a good night, I have to leave for today
17:56
<alkisg>
No
17:56
netplan breaks network manager
17:57
so that command is needed
