13:26
<Blinny>
So. Run the command in enable_, then run 'gconftool-2 --direct --type string --set /desktop/gnome/session/required_components/windowmanager metacity' -- This will have everyone with compiz disabled, but allow for manual enabling. Is this correct?

13:57
If you want to set it to "disabled" as default for new users: sudo gconftool-2 --direct --config-source xml:readwrite:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults --type string --set /desktop/gnome/session/required_components/windowmanager metacity
13:57
<roasted>
alkisg, seems as if I dug up an active bug you were posting in.
13:59
<Blinny>
alkisg: From what I've seen, t the restore_compiz command immediately restores it for _all_ users, causing some clients to crash again. I want it disabled by default, and enabled for only a few users.
14:00
<roasted>
seems as if running an LTS even has its own downfalls
14:01
as the fix I'm reading about supposedly came in 10.10
14:01
<alkisg>
Blinny: yes, that's what happens with users that have compiz enabled in their settings. You need to erase their settings for the defaults to take effect.
14:02
<Blinny>
alkisg: How do I erase the settings for an account?
14:03
<alkisg>
gconf needs to be running for that account, so you can do it from a login script (e.g. in /etc/xdg/autostart)
14:03
If you don't like that, a file system based approach is: sudo -i; rm /home/*/.gconf/desktop/gnome/session/%gconf.xml
14:03
But that erases all session settings, not only the required_components/metacity
14:03
(usually nothing much there)
14:04
roasted: which one?
14:04
<Blinny>
alkisg: Thank you.
14:05
<roasted>
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ltsp/+bug/505916
14:05
alkisg, I have 2 NICs, 2 labs, and 2 switches, 1 server with LTSP
14:05
clients on one NIC boot fine. clients on the other NIC do not.
14:05
my laptop is trying to boot now and it's caught in a sending discover.... no lease, failing loop
14:06
a quick google brought this up with the -C parameter and all of that talk
14:06
I have 1 switch off each NIC, so it's kind of subnetted that each lab operates on its own section. aka - 10.52.18.X and 10.52.17.X
14:06
18 works, 17 does not
14:07
<alkisg>
And why would that bug only affect one subnet?
14:07
<roasted>
I have no idea.
14:07
<alkisg>
It doesn't sound like it's that bug that affects you
14:07
<roasted>
think it's not that bug?
14:07
hmm
14:07
thought I was on to something, too
14:08
<alkisg>
Same switches?
14:08
<roasted>
same model, yes
14:08
identical
14:08
<alkisg>
Same clients?
14:08
<roasted>
as in same hardware clients?
14:08
<alkisg>
Yes
14:08
The nic, in particular
14:09
<roasted>
yes, with the exception of my laptop whom I'm using to test in the server room now.
14:09
which has worked with LTSP testing in the past
14:09
both NICs are identical on the server
14:10
<alkisg>
Btw I thought you had 10.10, not 10.04...
14:10
<roasted>
that was in the past
14:10
this year I brought hte server to an LTS and figured it'd be safer
14:10
buuuut I'm not having the same luck with 10.04 as I had with 10.10
14:10
<alkisg>
So anyway if the clients in .17 have the same NICs as the clients in .18, that shouldn't be the bug that affects you
14:10
See your dhcp server logs, try with gpxe on the clients, try with ipappend 3 etc
14:11
<roasted>
I was thinking along the same lines. But it was so similar to what I was seeing I wasn't sure what to think.
14:13
I almost wonder if I should swap the NICs
14:13
plug the 17 to 18, 18 to 17
14:13
that way if 18 begins to tank it could be a switch issue
14:13
and not the server at all
14:16
eh nevermind. not that easy since the switches are configured directly for those subnets
14:16
oh, also, I can't check dhcp server logs because I'm using windows for dhcp....

Hi all: I'm having issues with my ubuntu 11.04 LTSP server and evince. It keeps failing to open, and it provides a warning about "None of the autnetication protocols specified are supported" when launched from an xterm. This happened with a fresh, clean Ubuntu 11.04 amd64 install, specifically for ltsp. I've applied updates, but nothing seems to have addressed it, and googling indicates this is not a common problem.
15:36
I'm guessing due to the x auth indication that this is something related to ltsp...
15:39
<alkisg>
If it runs when you sit at the server, and it doesn't run if you sit at a thin client, then it's LTSP related, otherwise nope...
15:42
<kusznir>
alkisg, this is a system without a head; can't test.
15:42
