<alkisg>
lucjayjay: possible yes, but not automated yet
09:07
I've done it but I haven't even written a how-to yet
09:10
!uefi
09:10
<ltsp>
uefi: To boot UEFI clients with LTSP, switch them to Legacy BIOS (CSM). If you can't, then use google translate on this one: http://alkisg.mysch.gr/steki/index.php?topic=6466.0
09:17
<lucjayjay>
did u managed to do it with iPxe?
09:19
<alkisg>
Yes
09:19
I managed to do it with ipxe and with grub
09:20
(unrelated tries)
09:20
<lucjayjay>
guess i have to boot the kernel and the initrd with ipxe and give them a path to the nbd file ?
09:21
<alkisg>
Why give them a path?
09:21
The nbd path is sent via dhcp, later in the initramfs
09:21
<lucjayjay>
ah ok
09:21
didnt know that
09:23
so i have to add an uefi entry to my dhcp config and boot the kernel and initrd with ipxe ?
09:24
or do i need to change more ?
09:25
<alkisg>
lucjayjay: when I said it's not documented, there was a reason for that
09:25
It's because it's difficult :)
09:25
A lot of steps are needed to implement uefi pxe, yes
09:26
<lucjayjay>
ok
09:26
thank u anyway
09:26
<alkisg>
np
09:27
(it would take 3-4 hours to test+write the documentation)
09:29
<fiesh>
are there any advantages to using uefi over legacy bios? for network or normal boot. I found uefi to be utter garbage, but maybe I'm wrong (for example, there's no way to boot from zfs... I guess in order to have some reliability against hard disk failure you'd have to set up a garbage raid system with fat on it that uefi could boot from?)
09:30
<alkisg>
Some devices don't have legacy bios at all
09:30
So... :)
09:30
If you do have it, yup, no reason to dive into uefi
09:31
<fiesh>
oh god, I will try not to get such a device, ever...

ltsp-manager is finally available in debian experimental! just in time for primary development to stall... :/

16:52
Hey, nice! :)
16:53
Btw I was trying out Ubuntu 17.10 with wayland and all... it looks like ltsp, ldm, epoptes, ltsp-manager etc will need a lot of love to properly leave X behind...
16:54
<vagrantc>
no surprise that dropping X would require a lot of work...
16:54
<alkisg_web>
E.g. root apps no longer have access to the display... so ltsp-manager will need to break in backend+polkit+frontend parts

<truth_>
Hi, I would like to automatically mount a samba share at the client via FSTAB_1="//samba/share /mnt/share cifs credentials=/root/.cifspasswd 0 0" in lts.conf.
19:25
My problem is that ltsp-update-image.excludes contains the line: root/.*
19:25
Is there a easy way to exclude all files from /root except: /root/.cifspasswd
19:30
<alkisg>
Put an INIT_COMMAND_CP_CIFS="cp -a /somewhere/else /root/.cifspasswd" line
19:32
Also, the file doesn't even need to be in /root, it can be elsewhere...
19:33
<truth_>
I was thinking about to put it in opt ...
19:33
<alkisg>
Finally, you can even generate the file from lts.conf, like "echo username=xxx\npassword=yyy > somefile"
19:33
This should be even a bit safere
19:33
*safer
19:33
As it won't be included in the image at all
19:38
(and you could also just use FSTAB_1 to put the credentials in fstab, and chmod -r it...)
19:45
<truth_>
So, how would I create a file with lts.conf? ... by using a script via LDM_SESSION=my_script ?
19:46Faith has left IRC (Faith!~Paty_@unaffiliated/faith, Quit: Leaving)

INIT_COMMAND_1="echo username=xxx\npassword=yyy > somefile"
19:50
<truth_>
If I look to man lts.conf I don't find this INIT_COMMAND ...? Do I have an old version ...?
19:55
<alkisg>
No, I just didn't document it
20:00
<truth_>
Ok. If I would use the INIT_COMMAND in order to create my credential file ...
20:00
... I better should change lts.conf to 640 instead of 644, right?
20:02
<alkisg>
no
20:04ben_roose has left IRC (ben_roose!~roose@roose.cs.wichita.edu, Remote host closed the connection)

<alkisg>
lts.conf needs to be readable by tftp, so take care to leave it readable
20:08
Anyone that knows to "tftp get lts.conf" can read it anyway
20:14
<truth_>
If I understand you correct the credential will be either visible in lts.conf or within the image?
20:14
<alkisg>
yes
20:18
<truth_>
Ok - I think it doesn't matter to much in my case ...
20:18
Thanks, for the kind support.
