| |
04:08 | could you please give me a pointer or some sort of direction to carry on from here. I have tried a lot of different ways before i come here to ask, but i got no luck so far.

16:13 | <TFDL> hello i have a question above, can you please help pointing me to where i can find documentations or instruction. so thanksful!
| |
16:22 | <||cw> TFDL: depends on the card and if you want/need proprietary drivers or not
| |
16:23 | if not, just make sure the needed xorg driver is in the chroot
| |
16:23 | adding nvidia or ati proprietary drivers is quite a lot more involved.
| |
16:26 | <TFDL> ||cw: thanks so much this project is for our TFDL library at the University of Calgary
| |
16:27 | the driver is is Unichrome
| |
16:27 | I have the driver download from VIA who made our small computers we use for thin clients
| |
16:28 | VIA driver Unichrome claims to support Ubuntu
| |
16:29 | my Ubuntu version is 10.04 LTS x86
| |
16:31 | can you please tell me what you mean by: "just make sure the needed xorg ddriver is in the chroot"?
| |
16:32 | I think at this point i will decide to put off the "adding proprietary drivers" option.
| |
16:33 | i will not pursue this option, and find workarround insttead, but i when i get better at ltsp i will take another look at it.

16:34 | <moldy> hi
| |
16:35 | what is the difference between LDM_ALLOW_GUEST and LDM_GUESTLOGIN?
| |
16:41 | <workingcats> TFDL, you need to chroot into what is used to build the thin client image, install the driver (*DO* check if it is in your distro package repository, driver downloads from hw vendors for linux are even worse than for windows - yes, this is possible), then rebuild the image
| |
16:41 | well thats how it works on my setup, not entirely sure if it's the only possible LTSP setup
| |
16:42 | ah ok, sounds like it's not in the repos: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UniChrome
| |
16:44 | <TFDL> workingcats: i am going to check for my distor package repository.
| |
16:45 | workingcats: can you please show me a documentation for this task "you need to chroot into what is used to build the thin client image, install the driver"
| |
16:46 | <||cw> !chroot
| |
16:46 | <ltsp> I do not know about 'chroot', but I do know about these similar topics: 'ltsp-chroot'
| |
16:46 | <workingcats> TFDL, well for me the "source" of the image is in /opt/ltsp/i386 and i prefer bash, so the command is: linux32 chroot /opt/ltsp/i386 /bin/bash
| |
16:46 | <||cw> !ltsp-chroot
| |
16:46 | <ltsp> ltsp-chroot: you can download ltsp-chroot from http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ltsp-upstream/ltsp/ltsp-trunk/view/head:/server/scripts/debian/ltsp-chroot
| |
16:47 | <workingcats> the linux32 is necessary because the server runs 64bit but the clients run 32bit
| |
16:47 | ah there you go
| |
16:49 | <||cw> that's old, you should already have the script
| |

| |
16:50 | <TFDL> i feel very dull because i am not getting a clear understand on what you all ve said.

16:51 | <||cw> and if your host is 64bit, it's going to be a bit harder since the normal installers won't like it
| |
16:52 | <TFDL> thanks <||cw> i will keep trying ...
| |
16:52 | <||cw> one work around for that is to only 2 client active and set the nbd as read/write and install from a client. that will invalidate your chroot though.
| |
16:52 | <TFDL> my host is x86 or 32 bits
| |
16:52 | <||cw> that's fine then. those nvidia instructions should work well for you
| |
16:53 | just replace the nv parts with the unicrome install parts
| |
16:53 | <TFDL> can you please resend the nvidia instructions <||cw>?
| |

17:42 | this causes subsequent weirdness
| |
17:43 | it's possibly related to xscreensaver locking them

19:56 | <bennabiy> I am having lagging issues in virtualbox over ltsp is it because of graphical lacks in the server?
| |
19:58 | I can run VMs just fine on the server, but get weird things happening when I try to do 2d or 3d acceleration over ltsp (whether I am viewing the VM through rdp or running it on the ltsp client)
| |
20:00 | Anyone here with some graphical knowledge of LTSP? Does a server with a better graphics processor increase the ability to do graphics heavy processing by clients?

21:05 | <dead_inside> bennabiy it has been my experience that a better graphics process will help process frames faster but your still going to experience latency over the network. if you have heavy graphic processes for your end users I would recommend fat clients with a good graphics card
