IRC chat logs for #ltsp on irc.libera.chat (webchat)

Channel log from 27 November 2011   (all times are UTC)

00:01
<irctc902>
ssh: Could not resolve hostname server: Name or service not known as output of command
00:02
<alkisg>
It still makes no sense
00:02
LTSP puts "server" in your /etc/hosts on the client when it boots
00:04
<irctc902>
Should I be doing this from the client ?
00:04
<alkisg>
Yes
00:04
<irctc902>
Ah !!!!
00:04
<alkisg>
"am looking at root@ltsp20:/# on client" ==> there

<irctc902>
OK I have done the ssh command at the client it says permanantly added the RSA Host key and I am now looking at a dave@ltsp-desktop:~$ prompt
00:11
<alkisg>
irctc902: now, press alt+ctrl+f7 and try to login from ldm
00:12
<irctc902>
I'm IN !
00:12
<alkisg>
So yes it's still a problem with ltsp-update-sshkeys
00:12
!ltsp-update-sshkeys
00:12
<ltsp>
alkisg: ltsp-update-sshkeys: If you changed your server IP, you need to run ltsp-update-sshkeys, and if you're using NBD (Ubuntu) you also need ltsp-update-image afterwards
00:13
<irctc902>
Do I have to do this one time only and should I do it now ?
00:14
<alkisg>
Run this on your server: sudo ltsp-update-sshkeys; sudo ltsp-update-image
00:14
Then reboot your client, you should be able to login without problems
00:14
And you only need to do that every time your server IP changes
00:15
<irctc902>
Error: chroot /opt/ltsp/amd64 doesn't exist. is the result
00:15
<alkisg>
Then put --arch i386 there
00:19
<irctc902>
I completed it and have tried it and its fine
00:20
<alkisg>
Nice
00:22
<irctc902>
I need to do something for you now. I cannot thank you enough --- this is the culmination of several weeks works , various distros and whatever and I would not have been able to do it without you. I apologise for typing commands into the server when it should have been the client.
00:22
Is there a book you wish you had that I can get for you ?
00:27* markit grins
00:27
<irctc902>
How about getting Greece out of the eurozone ?
00:31

<stgraber>
I just pushed a change to ltsp-trunk switching from aufs to overlayfs. I "think" Ubuntu is the only distro that was using that, so it should be fine, except for anyone backporting LTSP to < Oneiric
04:28
if I'm wrong, then we probably want to make the code choose overlayfs, aufs or unionfs depending on what's available in the initramfs
04:28
(ideally trying them in that order)
04:32
would also be great if someone (Alkis?) could test fat clients with overlayfs as I know there are some weird kernel limitations with that fs and inotify
04:32
it's a bug that will be fixed but might be worth checking what's broken and putting a bit more pressure on the kernel guys to fix it if that affects us too

Hi I am not able to boot thin client locally(virtual box)
20:29
<alkisg>
Did you also try with a real client?
20:30
<priyank>
no I dont have one. I just completed installing ltsp in ubuntu 11.10
20:31
<alkisg>
Did you download the vbox extensions?
20:31
That contain the PXE code?
20:31
<priyank>
I just downloaded VBox from oracle site
20:31
<alkisg>
Download the extensions from the same site too

priyank: do you have the vbox client in bridged mode?
21:03
<priyank>
yes
21:03
I am now trying for dnsmasq
21:03
<alkisg>
OK, paste your /etc/ltsp/dhcpd.conf

21:07

sorry a bit slow connection
21:09

priyank: which one do you want to use, dhcp3-server or dnsmasq?

21:10

OK, so you need to remove dhcp3-server
21:10
<priyank>
ok
21:17
<alkisg>
priyank: do you want normal dhcp, or proxydhcp?
21:17
<priyank>
I think normal
21:19
<alkisg>
No
21:19
You have a dhcp server in your network
21:19
It might be your router
21:19
<priyank>
yes
21:19
<alkisg>
You don't want 2 dhcp servers on your network
21:19
<priyank>
no..
21:19
<alkisg>
Usually ltsp uses 2 network cards for that
21:20
<priyank>
yes.. but I dont want now
21:20
<alkisg>
Right
21:20
So, that's what proxydhcp is for

no it didnt
