i have been running Edubuntu ltsp trusty taher. i tried switching from thin client to fat client by following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/FatClients but it didn't run the fat client and i'm not sure what else to edit

<lauri>
Hi, I have two Ubuntu 14.04 based LTSP servers here
10:02
on one of them ltspfs works and on the other it does not, the xprop atom is not set
10:19
"Couldn't read LTSPFS_TOKEN atom."
11:02
I think I've isolated the issue
11:03
http://apt-browse.org/browse/ubuntu/precise/main/i386/ltsp-client-core/5.3.7-0ubuntu2/file/usr/share/ltsp/ltsp-client-common-functions this file
11:03
on line 24
11:03
the sed expression
11:03
causes I10-dpms script to be executed
11:03
and none of the other xinitrc.d scripts
11:10
I think it has something to do with Estonian locale again :D
11:12
jep
11:13
I replaced LANG=et_EE.UTF-8 with LANG=C in terminal's /etc/default/locale and it's fixed

hello everyone, I'm having troubles setting up my ltsp server. All is ok but one thing, there is no pxelinux.0 file in my /var/lib/tftp/ltsp/amd64/ folder
13:35
therefore my clients won't boot
13:35
has anyone encountered this problem ?
13:41
<lauri>
Hi :D
13:41
which distro are you using?
13:42
I guess you're using non-LTS release of Ubuntu?
13:42
<Vinylourson>
hi lauri , I'm using Xubuntu 15.04
13:42
exactly :D
13:43
you mean, reinstalling a LTS version would solve my problem?
13:44
<lauri>
I am not LTSP dev, but I would reccommend not wasting time with non-LTS releases
13:44
switch to 14.04 and enjoy (mostly) working system
13:45
<Vinylourson>
ok, I'll try that, sounds like a good advice, thx

i'm having some problems with resolution and thin clients. not all thin clients have the same monitors - some square and some widescreen. recently have been testing dual monitor setups. it appears there is an issue with the square monitors with dual monitors. when they boot up, the login screen looks distorted - like GPU artifacting. then once you login, the background looks the same way. apps open up and look though. only happens on the sq
14:16
uare monitors and only when using 2. is there something i need to do to support different resolutions? not sure what to look into. I'm aware of x_mode in lts.conf but not sure exactly how it works or if that offers a solution

In some locales, A-Z doesn't mean "all english letters", and the code needs to respect that

alkisg: I hope this was enough :)
17:57
alkisg: I would like to contribute Estonian translations for LDM, what is the most appropriate way to do that?
17:58* quinox was not aware of that, he never used anything else than a-z in his own scripts
17:58
<vagrantc>
lauri: i guess through launchpad?
17:59
https://translations.launchpad.net/
18:02
lauri: thanks for the bug report!
18:05* vagrantc isn't sure [:alnum:] will actually work with all the various programs (sed, grep, expr, etc.)
18:05
<vagrantc>
tr ...
18:07
<lauri>
I suppose you can use [abc...z] as a fallback :P
18:07
<vagrantc>
maybe maybe selectively forcing the locale
18:07
LC_ALL=C.UTF-8 sed ...
18:08
<lauri>
sed and grep has extended regex support if I am not mistaken
18:09
<vagrantc>
well, a quick grep revealed tr, sed, expr
18:10
additionally, many of our scripts use "sort", which probably behaves very differently based on locale...
18:10
<lauri>
yep :P
18:10
<vagrantc>
and perl... wheee.
18:10
<lauri>
are you talking about bzr branch lp:ltsp for translations?
18:11
or is there a separate repo for LDM
18:11
<vagrantc>
there's some translation interface in launchpad ... but sure, you could just make pull requests
18:11
<lauri>
Currently I can't find the place for LDM
18:12
lp:ltsp does not contain "Preferences" and other strings I see in the login window
18:12
<vagrantc>
it's been a while since i've done any translation integration work ... it kind of "just happens" in the background
18:12
yeah, there's lp:~ltsp-upstream/ldm-trunk
18:13
<lauri>
thanks (y)
18:15
<vagrantc>
alkisg has done more with launchpad translations
18:41
<lauri>
Okay I've got commit ready, which is the most appropriate way for pushing it?
18:44
<vagrantc>
you can push a branch to launchpad and make a merge request ...
18:45
<lauri>
ugh, going to take some time to get familiar with the process on launchpad/bzr
18:46
(I don't see a big [Fork] button at Launchpad)
18:49
<vagrantc>
there's also supposedly a web interface to just translate the strings....
18:49
but working with any new system is kind of annoying, sure.
18:55
<lauri>
http://askubuntu.com/questions/13547/how-to-create-a-personal-branch-in-launchpad I don't see the "Submit code" button for ldm-trunk
18:56
never mind, I found the web interface for translations

https://translations.launchpad.net/ltsp/ldm-trunk/+lang/et it's green now :P
19:23
hopefully this will get merged for Ubuntu 16.04 ;)
19:24
<vagrantc>
hope so
19:24
i'll get it into debian soon, and then ubuntu should sync it

<alkisg>
lauri, cool, if you can also check this one: https://translations.launchpad.net/ltsp/ltsp-trunk/+lang/et
19:28
Clear the "needs review" status and translate the untranslated ones
19:28
Hrm, although many of the altlinux ones aren't really used anymore... :-/
19:31
<lauri>
alkisg: I checked those as well
19:31
alkisg: I really don't see the point of translating ltsp-build-client scripts
19:32
sysadmin sees those messages like once in two years
19:32
<alkisg>
np, if one needs them he can translate them
19:32
<vagrantc>
or not at all.
19:32
<alkisg>
I wouldn't mind having all the console messages in english
19:32
<vagrantc>
other than testing that ltsp-build-client still works, i haven't used it in years
19:33
<lauri>
for the sake of simplicity I would remove the opportunity of translating those messages
19:33
translated error messages = disaster IMHO
19:33
<alkisg>
Some cultures really want their software to be translated though :)
19:33
<vagrantc>
it's mostly translated --help output
19:33
<alkisg>
Even the kernel messages...

no idea... highvoltage, stgraber? ^
19:43
<highvoltage>
if there is an edubuntu 16.04... then maybe
19:43
<lauri>
Classic desktop is not provided for Unity anymore AFAIK
19:44
And GNOME has also taken path towards 3D compositing
19:44
We upgraded to 14.04 here and switched to MATE while doing so
