<Guest3931>
hi guys, if I have an ltsp x64 server with i386 image
11:06
and i want to use the nvidia driver for
11:06
dual screen
11:06
which driver i have to laod?
11:06
x86 or 64?
11:09
<chrisjrob>
Guest3931: the driver is installed on the client, so go with what's running on the client
11:09
i.e. i386
11:10
<Guest3931>
ok, But now well I download the driver from nvidia?
11:11
with iceweasel for debian
11:11
and then i must install it running from the client?

<chrisjrob>
Guest3931: you have to log into the chroot rather than the client
11:15
preferably using ltsp-chroot command
11:15
alternative using: sudo chroot /opt/ltsp/i386
11:15
!ltsp-chroot
11:15
<ltsp>
chrisjrob: ltsp-chroot: you can download ltsp-chroot from http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ltsp-upstream/ltsp/ltsp-trunk/view/head:/server/scripts/debian/ltsp-chroot
11:16
<chrisjrob>
ltsp-chroot just does the chroot but mounts and unmounts proc and sys for you

does depend what you're running though

I'm managing nbd-server via pacemaker and it nicely hops from server to another when needed. But how I re-establish connection from client after that failover?
13:01leio_ is now known as leio
13:03
<Yoe>
muppis: you can't move your nbd-client connection to another server ATM. It just doesn't support that
13:04
muppis: I guess in theory it would be possible with the -persist thing, but that isn't implemented
13:04
patches are welcome, I guess :-)
13:04
<muppis>
Yoe, not even moving servers IP as well?=
13:04
-=
13:04
<Yoe>
if not, I might look into it some time into the future, but I can't say when
13:04
muppis: well, if you can live with a few lost writes, then I guess you can run nbd-client in a loop and have it connect to a DNS name
13:05
muppis: once nbd-client disconnects from the device node, the kernel will start issueing EIO errors
13:05
at least that's the idea -- not sure whether Paul ever submitted that patch to Linus
13:06
so if you don't want lost writes, you need to have nbd-client reconnect immediately
13:07
currently it does that by trying to open a new connection to the exact same server; it doesn't do anything more, on the idea that that probably won't work (which is probably true if your root device is on nbd)
13:09
<muppis>
Losing writes is not the problem. Just need to get reconnected.

Yoe, did those people try sending patches upstream? Or they just forked nbd without even trying to send patches?
13:16
<Yoe>
alkisg: the latter
13:16
<alkisg>
Meh
13:16
<Yoe>
alkisg: I contacted them to talk about possibly cooperating so that our protocols wouldn't be incompatible, and they didn't even want to do that
13:16
I just threw up my hands in disgust after that
13:16
<alkisg>

<mgariepy>
hey alkisg
15:53
<alkisg>
Hi mgariepy, what's up?
15:53
<mgariepy>
not much, i found what is wrong with ltsp-genmenu !
15:54
why it takes a lot of time when using fat client (or a lot of local apps ) :)
15:54
<alkisg>
Er... that's what we use with localapps, right?
15:54
<mgariepy>
yeah
15:54* alkisg doesn't use localapps in any of his setups...
15:54
<alkisg>
What's wrong with it?
15:55
<mgariepy>
it uses find when looking for icons, once per icon and it take about 1.5 sec per call.
15:55
<alkisg>
once per icon? ouch
15:55
<mgariepy>
lol yeah
15:56
and the regex wasn't good for the find command, we were lucky that it was working :)
15:57
i fixed the regex and i will fix the rest this week probably to find all the icons in one shot.
15:57
therefore calling find only once.
15:59
<alkisg>
mgariepy: are you planning to cache all .png, .svg etc files for the next loop? Or are you going to find all the icons with a single find command?
16:01
<mgariepy>
find all icons in a single call
16:03
it will add a few milliseconds to the call per items but it will be much better then right now.
16:03
<alkisg>
Yeah multiple finds == very bad performance
16:04
<mgariepy>
indeed.
16:04
<alkisg>
I wonder if we could use some system function to locate the icons though
16:05
<mgariepy>
when having only 1 or 2 localapps, it's not too bad only adding 2-3 sec to login time but when having 10 localapps, it take like 15sec only to generate this menu

Hello. I have just come into a company using LTSP 4.2 and trying to get farmiliar with it. They have a user, when logged on, gets a flashing cursor and taskbar and the desktop icons take a long time to load. Also, nothing on the taskbar can be clicked on.
21:09
Is there somewhere I can go to reset the settings just for his sessions/
21:10
<muppis>
Wipe everything from users home dir.
21:11
<vagrantc>
or just create a new user, and move all the user's documents/files/etc. into the new user's homedir.
21:11
(and change permissions and such)
21:13
<muppis>
Easier to take backup and let system recreate needed files and then restore documents.
21:14
I've done that way. No need to hazzle with permissions.
