<fiesh>
it appears creating a new image with clients running is, surprisingly, NOT safe...?!
09:56
I would have thought the image is copied and then a new one is written, and the file descriptor should just keep the old image from disappearing, and things should be safe. but I guess that's how it would be with a normal unix filesystem, nfs seems to make things go wonky?

<quinox>
in my experience it's not safe, but it usually works
12:35
yeah, LTSP does write the new image to a new file and renames the two files once it's done
12:40
(the "usually works" means I only rebuild the images outside office hours, unless there's a really serious issue in which case I'll do it now and hope not too many clients crash)

<fiesh>
hmm yeah, somewhat unsatisfactory
14:19
espcecially since no one typically logs out here
14:19
so sessions tend to run for weeks and months

also, is there an official way to make the client also request an address via DHCP6? it seems to be content with its IPv4 address

<quinox>
I use SLAAC for IPv6
17:04
the entire boot setup is IPv4, so effectively it doesn't matter
