So I am investigating replacing / reinstalling the system with i686 and using a chroot, but need to use a proxy dhcp config as I have an external unmodifiable dhcp server. The proxy dhcp ltsp documentation I've seen is unfortunately suited to ubuntu 12.04, and I am running 16.04 ...
