Today I have a new problem with my server debian ltsp. When i insert a device does not allow me to remove it. He tells me that the device is not in fstab and also'm not root. Any idea what I should do?

<Darkend>
my users can not unmount USB devices in the clients. what can i do?
17:56
<vagrantc>
Darkend: asking a question in a public channel gives other people the opportunity to respond and for other people to benefit from the answer :)
17:57
Darkend: if they're using ltspfs, there's no need to manually unmount them, you can just unplug them after 2 seconds of inactivity.
17:59
<Darkend>
how I can tell if I'm using ltspfs?
18:00
i try this: root@sCL06:/home/darken# chroot /opt/ltsp/i386 dpkg -l ltspfsd|grep ^ii
18:00
<vagrantc>
mount | grep ltspfs
18:00
<Darkend>
and this is the answer: ii ltspfsd
18:00
<vagrantc>
that tells you ltspfsd is installed on the client.
18:01
if you didn't do any manual configuration of mounts, it's almost certainly using ltspfs.
18:01
unless you're not using LTSP :)
18:02
<Darkend>
I made only two changes in /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/lts.conf
18:03
<vagrantc>
well, "mount | grep ltspfs" will tell you if any of the devices you've got mounted are mounted using ltspfs.
18:04
<Darkend>
:O)))
18:04
i don´t know that
18:05
<vagrantc>
also, "sudo ltsp-chroot dpkg -l ltspfsd" probably requires less typing :)
18:05
<Darkend>
a new knowledge
18:05
<vagrantc>
ripe for the plucking!

<Darkend>
vagrantc: I try this: umount /media/usr1/usbdisk-sda1
18:18
this is the system answer: umount: /media/usr1/usbdisk-sda1 is not in the fstab (and you are not root)
18:18
<vagrantc>
working as expected.
18:18
there's no need to unmount it from the server, ltspfs automounts the actual media on an as-needed basis
18:18
the server mount is virtual.
18:19
<Darkend>
or is this normal?
18:19
<vagrantc>
it's normal that ltspfs mounts cannot be manually unmounted.
18:20
or, at the very least, shouldn't be manually unmounted.
18:20
<Darkend>
then, how I can make my users disassemble asus usb at will without root privileges?
18:20
<vagrantc>
disassemble?
18:20
<Darkend>
umount
18:21
<vagrantc>
just remove the usb device after two seconds of inactivity.
18:21
ltspfs will handle the unmounting.
18:21
you need to make sure they don't have anything holding the mount open, like a file manager window or something.

<lbssousa>
alkisg: any plans to start providing an official systemd service unit for epoptes-client (alternative to current ifup script)? I really need it for use with systemd-networkd, which doesn't handle ifup scripts..
20:18
<alkisg>
lbssousa: hello
20:18
First, I'm interested in supporting multiseat in epoptes and ltsp
20:19
With that in place (which will need systemd/logind etc), I'm sure a systemd service will come along...
20:19vagrantc has left IRC (vagrantc!~vagrant@unaffiliated/vagrantc, Quit: leaving)
20:19
<alkisg>
lbssousa: do you have any how-to's to speed up my learning curve for multiseat?
20:35Phantomas has joined IRC (Phantomas!~ftsamis@ubuntu/member/phantomas)
20:47
<lbssousa>
alkisg: there's an outdated how-to focused on NVIDIA cards with proprietary drivers at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MultiseatTeam/Instructions
20:48
But it's also valuable to read the logind reference at https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd/multiseat/
20:50
Side note: systemd's multi-seat-x wrapper no longer exists, since it's not needed anymore for Xorg server 1.16 and later.
20:51
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me :-)
20:55
<alkisg>
lbssousa: from what I've read so far, and correct me if i'm wrong, there are 2 completely different ways to do multiseat
20:55
One is what systemd supports, with one graphics card for each seat
20:55
And one is xephyr based, and is what you've sent the patches for, in xorg
20:55
Correct so far?
20:56lbssousa has left IRC (lbssousa!~lbssousa@177.143.30.211, Read error: Connection reset by peer)
20:56
<alkisg>
I assume that the xephyr-based one is cheaper in hardware, but also performs worse, e.g. only one of the 2 seats will be able to use hardware acceleration
20:56
Haha
20:57
<||cw>
wait, xephyr make multiple virual screen on one monitor?
20:57
<alkisg>
Err they're using it with 2 monitors in this case
20:58
But 1 graphics card
20:58
<||cw>
soudns nice for testing, or maybe for one of the crazy super wide screens, but otherwise, what's its use?
20:58
<alkisg>
Having 6 computers for 12 students, saves a lot in cost
20:59
<||cw>
ah, so it seperates the video card ports, instead of just separating the cards
21:00
<alkisg>
Yes each video output is used for a different student, i.e. a "seat"
