hi. I've set up ltsp5 in ubuntu feisty. when somebody log in from 2 different terminal with the same account it's not possible to open firefox in the second terminal if it's already open in the first one. is it possible to let people do it?
04:24
<omri>
that's a firefox limitation
04:31
<xlyz>
omri: epiphany has the same limitation?
04:31
<omri>
I don't know, check ...

I've been browsing the LTSP site, but I can't seem to find anything details the server and bandwidth requirements for x amount of clients, any of you have any information on how well LTSP scales?
15:25
<rjune>
multi proc does better then single proc
15:25
because you have lots of processes
15:25
rule of thumb used to be 512MB + (50 * number_of_terminals)
15:28
hard drive space will vary, but 10GB base + 50MB * number_of_users isn't a bad guess.
15:32
<arpwatch>
Do you have any experience with the local device package, does it handle usb sticks well?

hey all... i am running the ltsp-standalone-server on etch...
18:16
however it dows not seem to be responding to /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/lts.conf changes
18:16
anyone have an idear?
18:17
i think the deb packages take care of all of the stuffs...
18:17
it boots to gdm... but no SCREEN_01 = shell
18:17
it does not notice.
18:17
not a permission thing... it is 644
18:27
hello?
18:31
maybe just an issue in my work cycle.
18:31
<cliebow_>
comfrey, think you will have to wait for vagrantc...he may be traevelling..
18:31
<comfrey>
heh, love that guy

18:44
SCREEN_02=shell
18:44
<comfrey>
yeah, pretty much.
18:44
messing with the config now.
18:45
switched to shell on 01 and rdesktop on 02
18:45
lets see what happens
18:46
where is vagrant these days?
18:46
hmm... screen_script rdesktop not found
18:46
it seems like there is a getty on tty1
18:46
wtf
18:47
saw the same thing on debian.
18:47
it looks like i am a bit behind the times
18:48
ok, commented out the inittab
18:48
should deal with the gettys
18:49
doh!
18:49
ho dice
18:49
no dice that is
18:50
one more try...
18:50
did not save or something
18:51
<cliebow_>
something tells me screen_01 is spoken for]\
18:51
<comfrey>
yeah, the getty took it
18:51
when did ltsp start using gettys?
18:52
<cliebow_>
5
18:52
<comfrey>
ah.
18:52
<cliebow_>
i wouldnt know a getty from a yeti anyway
18:52
<comfrey>
new business...
18:52
how about rdesktop as a screen script?
18:52
any idears?
18:53
<cliebow_>
look in screen.d in etc of chroot
18:53
<comfrey>
cliebow_: in etc?
18:53
yeah,
18:54
not seeing it...
18:54
hang on
18:54
hmm... i am not seeing it.
18:54
you sure it is etc?
18:55
ah, i see it
18:55
ok it is here:/opt/ltsp/i386/usr/lib/ltsp/screen.d/

<jammcq>
yeah
18:58
<comfrey>
i am looking at this ltsp_config and it is confusing me
18:58
i am wuse to ltsp 4. 5 is a bit different
18:59
<jammcq>
some parts of ltsp-5 are VERY different
18:59
<comfrey>
apparently
18:59
gettys and all.
18:59
freakin me out
18:59
there is no rdesktop in the default etch install
18:59
<jammcq>
right
19:00
<comfrey>
what to do about this?
19:00
<jammcq>
hmm, dunno
19:00
<comfrey>
oh shit
19:01
<cliebow>
jammcq is back!!!!! long trip home??
19:01* comfrey check mailing list
19:01
<jammcq>
yeah
19:02
<cliebow>
Ill bet..i know 26 hours from Sanfrancisco beat hell out of me..
19:03
<jammcq>
Sevilla -> London -> Detroit
19:03
wasn't really all that bad
19:03
<cliebow>
Wow:that Is quite efficient at least..
19:04
<jammcq>
well, we had about 22 hours in London
19:04
went downtown last night
19:04
did a ton of walking around
19:04
<cliebow>
Neat!!
19:04
I found London tons of fun...but of course soccer finals were on..
19:05
had a little place i could get a bacon bottie at 6 in the morning
19:06
and pop in for a quick pint before supper..
19:06
<jammcq>
heh
19:06comfrey_ has joined #ltsp
19:07
<petre>
so, has anyone written up a summary of what went on at uds?
19:07
<comfrey_>
so... odd... i commented out the gettys in inittab... but they are still showing up
19:07
<jammcq>
there is no inittab
19:07
dunno what you changed
19:08
the getty starts from an init script
19:08
you need getty on tty1, without it, it won't start the terminal properly
19:08
<comfrey_>
oh, i am using the debian server-standalone package
19:08
<jammcq>
ok
19:08
umm
19:08
that might be different
19:08
but I think you might still need getty on tty1
19:10
<comfrey_>
so how to edit the lts.conf file and do SCREEN_01 ... if they are held by gettys
19:11
<jammcq>
what are you trying to acheive ?
19:11
<comfrey_>
xserver on 01, rdp on 02, vnc on 03
19:11
simple
19:11
(at least i thought)
19:11
<jammcq>
umm, with ltsp-5, i'm not sure that's so simple
19:11
<comfrey_>
5 is supposed to be better than 4
19:11
<cliebow>
xserver is on 07 right?
19:11
<comfrey_>
what happened
19:12
<jammcq>
comfrey_: we're still working on it
19:12
<comfrey_>
oh, ok... perhaps i can pitch in too.
19:12
<jammcq>
it's better in many ways, but not in every way
19:12
<comfrey_>
i see
19:12
<jammcq>
if it doesn't suite your needs, you can always use ltsp-4.2
19:12
<cliebow>
4.2 does ROCK for pos terminals
19:12
<comfrey_>
um... now no X on 7
19:13
yeah, i think the gettys are nessecary
19:13
<jammcq>
the guy that did most of the work on ltsp-5 for debian is probably asleep right now. He's in Spain for the next 6 weeks or so
19:13
I just got back from there today
19:13
<comfrey_>
oh, who is that?
19:14
vagrant?
19:14
<jammcq>
yeah
19:14
<comfrey_>
oh, cool.
19:14
i know that dude. i am from portland
19:14
<cliebow>
Maine?
19:14
no...
19:14
<comfrey_>
no oregon
19:14
in north carolina now.
19:14
<jammcq>
comfrey_: he'll be back in Portland in July
19:15
<comfrey_>
perhaps i should just switch back to 4 then
19:15
great, i look forward to seeing him
19:15
<cliebow>
they can sit side by side
19:15
<comfrey_>
oh, neat
19:15
too bad i have a shitty internet connection.
19:15
it is like 150 MB right
19:15
?
19:16
cliebow: is there a writeup on side by side?
19:16
<cliebow>
heh..you are rocking compared to this...have to get after the neighbors to upgrade
19:18
id just get an nfsroot tarball and a kernel stick em in place manually and point to them with dhcpd.conf
19:19
<comfrey_>
ok, this means i might have to come back tomorrow then
19:19
f***
19:19
<cliebow>
i have them at 169.244.3.137/
19:20
<comfrey_>
yeah man...
19:20
Lamoine
19:20

19:20

19:21
<cliebow>

19:21
<comfrey_>
how big is the file?
19:21
<cliebow>
and ltsp4.2.tar
19:21
3 meg for the kernel
19:22
gzipping the chroot now
19:23
couple hundred meg for that
19:23
<comfrey_>
woah
19:23
ok... this is not so positive, but that is ok
19:23
life is a trip sometimes
19:23
and sometimes a trap
19:23
<cliebow>
a lonnnng trip
19:23
sometimes crap 8~)
19:24
<comfrey_>
indeed
19:24
<cliebow>

19:25
<comfrey_>
