I'm stuck in LTSP server installation can someone help me?
14:01alkisg has joined IRC (alkisg!~alkisg@ubuntu/member/alkisg)
14:10
<alkisg>
frank_: sure, if you use the message dialog, by default it goes to all clients
14:10
If you select 5 clients and then use it, then it's displayed to those 5 clients...
14:10
!ask | echo Aetos:
14:10
<ltsp>
Aetos: ask: Don't ask to ask a question, simply ask it, and if someone knows the answer, they'll respond. Please hang around for at least a full hour after asking a question, as not everybody constantly monitors the channel.
14:30
<frank_>
alkisg it seems not have a broadcast all, like italc...anyway so I have to make a multiple select of the client then send msg
14:34
<alkisg>
frank_: if you don't select any clients, it broadcasts to all
14:34
if you select all clients, it broadcasts to all
14:34
So do one of those 2 methods
14:34
What other method would you like? An extra menu just for that?
14:35
<frank_>
alksisg: it would be fine ^_^ anyway it's a great tool
14:36
<alkisg>
frank_: then we would need another menu for send screen to all, block sound for all, execute for all etc
14:36
I.e. twice the menus, it would add complexity with no real value
14:38
<frank_>
alkisg: a "select all" coud help when you have a session with 50+ clients
14:38
<alkisg>
frank_: ctrl+a

14:39

alkisg: trying
14:41
alksing: that's fine! wonderful! thanks a lot
14:43
alksing: do you have experience with debian7.1 edu? it's working all fine, except on thick client I have annoying pop up on every startup (renew ticket)
14:51
<Cyrius1234>
Where is the ltsp-build.conf?
14:56
nevermind
14:56
<frank_>
Cyrius1234: sudo find / -name ltsp-build.conf
14:57

thanks frank
15:03
<frank_>
debian 7.1 edu: on fat client I have always credential expired every time I log in. Instead on server and thin client credential is always ok
15:05
<Cyrius1234>
actually, I think I had the same exact thing occur. It just refused to take my creds.
15:07
<frank_>
Cyrius1234: ask always to renew ticket. very annoying

15:10

alkisg: debian-edu use fat automatically for client with > 320MB RAM
15:10
<alkisg>
frank_: are they netbooted?
15:11
Or are local disks used for their installation?
15:11

alkisg: yes netboot
15:11
alkisg: it use NFS instead of NBD

<okidoki>
hi anyone some experiences with uefi client booting over PXE? With bios it works fine. But now more and more clients will have only uefi instead of bios as firmware interface. I would like to start some testing if it works also
15:12
<alkisg>
okidoki: there are several pages about that in google, did you try to follow someone and it didn't work?
15:13
<frank_>
alkisg: yes I see, then load xfce desktop and I have the kerberos pop-up that inform expiring
15:14
<alkisg>
frank_: ah ok, that's AFTER login, it's a known problem, LDM doesn't use pam, doesn't unlock the keyrings etc
15:14
LTSP 6 will stop using LDM
15:14
And will solve that
15:14
Check the time of the fat clients too
15:14
<okidoki>
alkisg:
15:14
i tried but could not find anything usefull, do you know some information?
15:14
<frank_>
alkisg: yes after login. so it can't be fixed
15:14
<alkisg>
frank_: It needs to be withing a few minutes from the server time

If the problem is the time, then you can easily fix it
15:15
<frank_>
alkisg: how i can fix the time? seems debian 7.1 uses ntp to syncronize clocks

Did you check that the time is the problem?
15:15
<frank_>
how i can check
15:15
<alkisg>
Do fat clients have e.g. 5 minutes time difference from the server?
15:15
See the time on a fat client and compare it with the server
15:16
okidoki: here's a page from the ubuntu wiki: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UEFI/PXE-netboot-install
15:16
Here's another from redhat: https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/html/Installation_Guide/s1-netboot-pxe-config-efi.html
15:16
Etc etc...
15:16
<frank_>
alkisg: no such differences...anyway the same happens also with virtual box (same host machine for both guests: server and three clients)
15:17
<alkisg>
Then it's a pam issue, so it's probably not easily solvable for now, you'd need to stop using ldm for that, which isn't easy
15:17
Or stop using kerberos...
15:17
<okidoki>
alkisg: thanks i will have a look
15:18
<frank_>
alkisg: debian-edu come preconfigured, it's very difficult if not impossible change something, also network conf....all hard coded
15:19
every thing is under LDAP
15:22
<alkisg>
okidoki: you should probably file a bug report under ltsp too, so that we start supporting uefi boots as well
15:22

21:11
<vagrantc>
it's a much simpler method to maintain fat clients, and also works for thin clients to some degree.
21:24
<Aetos>
I forgot to mention, i'm just learning about this stuff yet, I think I preffer to know why it didn't work in the first place. But then once I familiarize myself with LTSP I'll deffinitely revisit your proposal
