Switched today to using XFCE as desktop...but one minor (major) issue...
01:26
I;m doing auto logon, and it's working. But when I create a user, the home folder is not being created, yet I can see it on the LTSP-booted XFCE desktop.

Hi, I need help. I'm trying to do server ltsp-PNP. The client does not start. I see on the screen Trying to load.... No network interfaces are up (initramfs)
07:55
My system edubuntu 14.04
07:58
<work_alkisg>
LTSP in 14.04 is broken
07:59
If you type "exit" at the initramfs, does it boot then?

hi!
17:24
i found that i had a non-xvideo compatible client
17:25
the video i streamed to it was with no color, just like gray shadows moving on the screen
17:25
*had no color
17:25
but since i used, http stream, i used firefox to watch the video
17:26
(stream)
17:26
and it showed correctly.

<||cw>
Ark74: yes, video streaming is something that s difficult for thin clients. localapps is best.
18:53
<Ark74>
||cw, somethin like having the video file on each station and play it from it with a localapp?
18:53
<||cw>
Ark74: no, running firefox, or another video player, local
18:54
<Ark74>
ohh, yeah
18:55
||cw, i had that issue because of the lack of xvideo support on the client
19:22
<alkisg>
Ark74: you can check for xv support by running xvinfo
19:23
<Ark74>
alkisg, i did, that was the only one with no support, thanks for the tip
19:25
<alkisg>
Which card is that? I thought most of them had xv support nowadays... maybe you're using some incompatible xorg version for that card.
19:27
E.g. unfortunately xorg after 1.13 dropped support for all cards that used XAA :-/
19:28
<Ark74>
i have no access right now, but i think it was a VIA
19:29
or maybe SiS...no it was a VIA card
19:29
<alkisg>
What ubuntu version? 12.04.howmuch?
19:29
<Ark74>
yep, 12.04
19:29
<alkisg>
how much?
19:29
12.04.1? .2? etc
19:29
12.04.2+ dropped support for sis cards, they segfault now
19:30
They only work with the xorg of 12.04.1
19:30
OK anyways, you can't check now...
19:31
<Ark74>
yeah, i'm using xserver-xorg 1:7.6+12ubuntu2
19:32
that i can tell
19:32
<alkisg>
dpkg -l xserver-xorg-core
19:33
<Ark74>
19:33
+++-==========================================-==========================================-====================================================================================================
19:33
ii xserver-xorg-core 2:1.11.4-0ubuntu10.14 Xorg X server - core server
19:33
1.11
19:33
<alkisg>
Yup, you have the original xorg stack, which supports cards with XAA
19:33
So it's OK for SiS etc
19:34
(the chroot is what matters, of course, not the server)
19:34
<Ark74>
so i should set something on lts.conf to correct that?
19:34
yeah, sure
19:35
<alkisg>
No it's fine, you only need to check that one client, see what card it has, search for workarounds etc
19:35
<Ark74>
how good /terrible idea is to use XSERVER=vesa as default on lts.conf?
19:36
<alkisg>
Terrible
19:37
Only set that for bad clients. Or, from a script, for all clients from some known bad chipset.
19:38
<Ark74>
ok, got it
19:40
alkisg, sorry to ask this again, but why the behaivor was different on firefox and vlc, i mean you already said it was 'cause the xv support
19:40
<alkisg>
E.g. vlc would default to xvideo and firefox to x11 rendering
19:40
If you tell vlc to use x11 rendering, it will work too
19:41
<Ark74>
x11 rendering will consume more bandwith? or cpu?
19:41
or any?
19:41
<alkisg>
Both
19:42
E.g. 640x480 video played back at 1024x768 screen: xvideo bandwidth = 640*480*12bpp
19:42
x11 = 1024*768*32 bpp
19:42
<Ark74>
oh, like you wrote here: https://www.mail-archive.com/ltsp-discuss@lists.sourceforge.net/msg41360.html
19:42
<alkisg>
And xvideo has hardware acceleration, so it doesn't use much cpu
19:43
<Ark74>
so it has really good advantages xv support
19:43
nice
19:44
thanks now i'm aware of xvideo and x11 rendering
19:50
BTW, i started to fill a Flow Control section on the ethernet cards description on h-node.org
19:51
<alkisg>
Link?
19:51
<Ark74>
stating if they support or not, flow control
19:51
http://ur1.ca/gythg (the real url is huge)
19:52
i'll keep filling this description on the other cards i have
19:53
chances are that i find one that supports disabling flow control
19:54
<alkisg>
I have marked a few of them if you want them...
19:54
<Ark74>
sure
19:55
<alkisg>
