<snuffeluffegus>
Hey y'all I'm trying to deploy a fat client ubuntu 14.04 with auto login based on ip with unity-2d, but all I'm getting is a black screen.
00:36
<vagrantc>
have you created the users for autologin on the server?
00:37
<snuffeluffegus>
yes
00:37
I did it on the main system as well as in the chroot
00:37
<vagrantc>
and you can log in with autologin disabled using the same username and password?
00:37
<snuffeluffegus>
then updated the ssh keys and the image
00:37
no I can't
00:37
<vagrantc>
shouldn't add users to the chroot
00:38
<snuffeluffegus>
Even when I log into an account that I know is good I can't do it with that account in chroot
00:38
err
00:38
h/o let me rephrase that
00:39
<vagrantc>
there should be no users the in the chroot.
00:39
might even cause you problems...
00:39
<snuffeluffegus>
ok
00:39
I'll rebuild my image and try again
00:40
Do you know how I might go about invoking unity-2d by default?
00:41
<vagrantc>
as opposed to what?
00:41
you have multiple desktop environments installed, and you want to default to unity-2d?
00:42
<snuffeluffegus>
yes
00:42
I'm running on some old hardware in some cases pentium 4
00:42
<vagrantc>
LDM_SESSION in lts.conf
00:43
!lts.conf | echo snuffeluffegus
00:43
<ltsp`>
snuffeluffegus lts.conf: (#1) http://manpages.ubuntu.com/lts.conf, or (#2) lts.conf manpage is available in the ltsp-docs package
00:43
<snuffeluffegus>
I've set that, but it'
00:43
doesn't work
00:43map7 has left IRC (map7!~map7@120.17.61.134, Read error: Connection reset by peer)
00:44
<vagrantc>
hrm. might have to do with the Exec in the .desktop file specifying arguments
00:48
<snuffeluffegus>
weird
00:48
I think it may be ubuntu 14.04 is just buggy, but I can't seem to get it figured out
00:48
even the lubuntu-desktop environment wont load
00:49
<vagrantc>
try setting up a debug shell:
00:49
<snuffeluffegus>
oh I've got to reboot this box I'll swing back in later after hacking on this a bit more
00:49
<vagrantc>

00:49
<snuffeluffegus>
I'll try getting a debug shell as well thanks
00:50
<vagrantc>
and then ssh user@server from the shell
00:50
make sure that works
00:50
<snuffeluffegus>
k
00:50
<vagrantc>
literally "server"
00:50
<snuffeluffegus>
I'll be back in later

I'd considered using raspberry pi's for thin clients, but I'd like to have the option for dual monitors. Any suggestions for a small, fanless, thin client that can do multiple monitors?
16:15
<gp>
I use some intel nuc ones. Looks like there are other companies making small fanless units now too that can handle multiple monitors. Make sure to double check the graphics support for linux is there. I've ran into trouble with older intel atoms.

20:24
I.e. the server is also a "template client"
20:25
Well if you don't need multimedia apps, like ...a browser, then thin clients are ok
