Has anyone had any experience getting an intel macboot to boot to ltsp
02:57
ubuntu 11.10
02:57
<killermike_>
Not me, sorry.
02:58
Do Macs do PXE?
02:58
<slicknick5181>
They are supposed to, But I am not having much luck
02:58
and research tells me that people have even had issues booting to mac servers so there may be no hope for me :/
02:59
<killermike_>
I take it you know about using --arch (or whatever) when building the chroot environment?
02:59
Have you successfully done ltsp-build-client?
03:00
<slicknick5181>
yes and yes I have a Dell intel machine booting successfully
03:00
however I want to add 64 bit support to my server and idk how
03:00
<killermike_>
Sorry, I can't be much help. I'm just getting started with simple i386 stuff myself.
03:01
<slicknick5181>
are you having some issues
03:01
?
03:03
<killermike_>
Actually, I've just got it going.
03:03
BTW, what country are you in? I had some problems with the Ubuntu repos when doing ltsp-build-client.
03:03
<slicknick5181>
Nice! Are you running 11.10
03:03
<killermike_>
I chose a different repo and it started working.
03:03
<slicknick5181>
US
03:03
<killermike_>
Yup.
03:04
<slicknick5181>
I took the easy route and installed edubuntu 11.10
03:04
Sets almost everything up for you
03:04
<killermike_>
It also didn't fill in dhcpd.conf with the right file names, which took me a while to figure out.
03:04
That sounds like a nice system. Are you using it in education?
03:05
<slicknick5181>
Yeah I tried that route and was ready to throw the keyboard lol
03:05
No it was just the only way I could figure
03:06
<killermike_>
It's shockingly buggy. You're better off avoiding if you can manage it.
03:06
<slicknick5181>
Yeah it's running slow/buggy but I do have it on a pentium 4 just for testing

but even with no clients booted the server still runs slow
03:07
<killermike_>
Performance seems acceptable here on a core duo running it between two VirtualBox VMs.
03:08
<slicknick5181>
Ahhh ok how much memory do you have?
03:08
<killermike_>
For the VMs? (checking...)
03:08
<slicknick5181>
on the server
03:09
<killermike_>
Just 512MB on the server VM. One client with 256MB. Quite nippy. 4GB on the actual host machine.
03:10
<slicknick5181>
Interesting I'm running 1GB of memory but the processor is probly my big issue
03:11
<killermike_>
Yeah.
03:12
The PDF manual has some guidelines for that. It seems that you need a fairly powerful server, particularly if you're scaling it up to lots of clients.
03:12
<slicknick5181>
But I do have a newer machine I'm going to try the install the 11.10 server on and ass ltsp support and see how that goes
03:12
PDF manual?
03:12
DO you have that link handy?
03:12
<killermike_>
sure...

03:15

03:15

Hello
10:22
I have some general questions
10:22
that might be better answered by a person instead of doc :)
10:23
I am tasked with building an environment of workstations
10:23
As I understand, on a ltsp deployment apps usually run on the same server providing boot service
10:24
Is is hard or possible to mount a directory and have apps run on the workstation?
10:24
It is of no use to me to run everything on the boot server, since for example, I should be able to run a sip phone
10:25
and that must be done at the client.
10:25
I think of it as a completly normal workstation, but with the disk on the network.

I could download a specific app and make a script to run it -- but that really seems like a kludge (Especially when OSX and Windows versions of Firefox open them fine, it's given my Linux machines a black eye)
15:44
<stgraber>
shawnp0wers: well, .jnlp are typically associatiated with javaws so you click on the link and it opens using java web start, at least it used to do that here until I got rid of java

Hello everyone, I'm having some challenges with Epoptes. I use LTSP-Cluster. I have epoptes-client installed on each app server and in the chroot. One of the app servers is epoptes server. The problem I'm having is that clients will disappear from the detected clients. Additionally, none of the commands in epoptes impact the client.
