Hi. I have a question about the SSH config on LTSP, is the SSH default not allowed on the outside interface of the server? Or do I manualy have to block SSH towards the outside eth interface?
|12:12||leio_ is now known as leio|
_david_, it's stock ubuntu ssh.. so that's how it is
or stock $distro ssh rather
just to type that in the terminal to se the running config?
you have to edit /etc/ssh/sshd_config
i will give it a try;)
but.. it's nice to remotely admin servers _david_
in case you aren't at the location you can login and fix things
im at sight
sure.. until you aren't..

I have seen through the sshd_config file now and its man-file, I do not find the option there where I cound spesify that SSH should listen to eth0 only. Got any hints?
|14:09||Kicer86 has joined #ltsp|
_david_: listen address
that simple, thanks:) I misunderstood the ListenAdress option, I thought it was to spesify the adresses of clients allowed to connect:)
ListenAddress Specifies the local addresses sshd(8) should listen on. The following forms may be used:
Doesn't mention clients anywhere in there.
off for an errand. Good luck.
thanks:) Im writing a paper on the LTSP, will refer to this forum as it has been to great help

I know the debian guys still need someone to take over Sabayon. I've got an account on the debian devel server. What's the workflow for me to take over sabayon under debian?
sbalneav: i'd contact the maintainers, ask if they're interested in sponsoring uploads. you can find an overview of the packaging information, including the list of maintainers: http://packages.qa.debian.org/sabayon
sbalneav: if they're game, they'd add you to Uploaders, though that doesn't actually give you upload rights, confusingly enough. just makes the tools not think you're doing a non-maintainer upload when you're working on the package.
sbalneav: and will also get you a handy page here: http://firstname.lastname@example.org
sbalneav: if they like the work you're doing, eventually you'd probably want to become a debian-maintainer, which will give you upload rights to packages you are listed as a maintainer for...
sbalneav: er, listed as an uploader for (as long as that package accepts debian-maintainer uploads) ...
sbalneav: got it? :)
I think sabayon's actually been dropped in debian.
And someone like you could actually use it at freegeek
sbalneav: it's still in experimental
sbalneav: ah, trying to pull me in too? :)
Nah, I can do it, but i bet it would be useful for you
you wouldn't beleive the mail I've been getting from people being so happy sabayon works now
is it generally easy to backport to an older release? that would be necessary for it to be useful in the near future.
sbalneav: i'd love to think you get *lots* of mail from happy people :)
it would disappoint me were that not the case :)

sbalneav: seems like luca falavigna just uploaded 2.28.1-1 to experimental about a week ago ... is that fairly current?

sbalneav: hrm. non-trivial backport ...
|16:31||klausade has quit IRC|
What's the issue with a backport
anyone know how to force a group on a newly created file on an NFS share?
sbalneav: the current debian packaging will require some build-deps to be backported as well ..
sbalneav: don't know if that's any different from the packaging you've been working on
sbalneav: but it's not simply "build on stable" type of backport
python-gobject-dev seeming to be the main blocker.
sbalneav: does it require a recent version of xserver-xephyr?
might be possible to just lower the build-dep...
Brian_H: In a shared directory?
Usually by setting the setgid bit on the shared directory.
if you have a directory, let's say "/home/share"
and a group called "share"
sbalneav: apparently no...
checking for pygobject 2.15.0 or greater... configure: error:
chgrp share /home/share
so charlie who is in the "everyone" group creates a directory/file and it's owned by charlie:charlie
chmod g+s /home/share
chmod 770 /home/share
ok I'll try this :)
sorry, chmod g+w /home/share
then anyone who creates a file in /home/share, the file will be group "share" owned
hrm, ok the files are owned by everyone now, but they are read only by the group :(
I don't think we're doing anything fancy with pygobged
try bumping it down
|16:59||J45p3r__ has quit IRC|
sbalneav: bump it down where?
ah, in configure.
Yeah. I've got the same problem for hardy.
I need to do a backport for that too,

what's the best way to setup a cron job for ltsp-update-image?
I have tried to set one that fetches the apt updates and then runs an image update
but it never seems to get very far on the image creation
the temp image gets created, but it is really small
sbalneav: compiled fine... no idea if it works.
ftherese: Bad idea.
if the cron job fails, you're left with a bunch of dead terminals.
ok... I won't do it, I promise... but why is it that it fails?
I made a simple script that works when run from the terminal
and then have it run as a cron job
but the part that never seems to work is the update-image part
|17:15||Selveste1_ has quit IRC|
does the update image pipe it's output to /dev/null?
|17:21||johnny has joined #ltsp|
because the rebuild generates a lot of characters with the progress bar.
they might be filling up the pipe.
I suspected that might be it... I think you are probably right

hmm. Let me look at settings.

I'm getting old and bitter
When I retire, I'm going to ditch Graphics altogether.
I still have an old text terminal hanging around here
I'm gonna put a Linux box in the basement, run a nice serial line upstairs
So the other day I was installing Karmic on some older PCs (5 years) and an interesting thing happen.
and it's gonna be 9600 baud 80x25 again baby, YEAH!
Wireless PCI card in complete freeze at gray Ubuntu guy.
Wireless PCI card out boot fine.
I already use mutt, vi, and irssi, all I have to do is break this web addiction and go back to lynx. I'm set.
I would report the bug only I can't begin to think how I am going to document.
sbalneav: I hear ya. I love the terminal. All I need is my Emacs :-)
Were you there for the classic emacs joke?
"Emacs is a great operating system! All it needs now is a good editor!"
That's an old one.
Isn't there one about each letter of Emacs?
oh my. I just looked at the picture.
