Is there remote reboot thin? (My brains are still in sickleave..)
02:41
<alkisg>
By default no, but there are ways to enable that
02:41
If the user is logged in, you can reboot it though, yes
02:41
<muppis>
How is that done?
02:43
<alkisg>
It needs 4-5 commands, to get the user session, set an xprop and call gnome logout...
02:43
<muppis>
Ah.. Now I recall. Well, I send email to customer and requst it to do locally.
02:44
<alkisg>
What exactly do you need? To be able to reboot any pc at any given time?
02:44
If it's just for once, yeah that'd be faster :)
02:45
<muppis>
I mistyped mac in dhcpd.conf and it didn't get correct IP, so cannot install printer.. :D

Though, you could twist it around and say mac address needs to be changed. ;-)

Ah.. My life got easier. I struggled with dhpcd and pxe home. Somehow my wlan router, which I used for dhcpd and firewall etc, didn't manage well if dhcpd was elsewhere in lan. Switched it to dd-wrt based wlan router and it uses DNSMasq for dhcpd and dns.. :)

09:47
<alkisg>
Ouch
09:48
When 10.04 was released I had to use a kernel from a ppa to use my 82855
09:49
If the situation hasn't changed, and 845 is similar to 855, then you're into problems :(
09:49
I think in maverick they're using fb instead of intel drivers for those cards
09:50
<ninou>
so i have to downgrade to ubuntu 8.04, because it works in this version
09:50
<alkisg>
No, better upgrade to 10.10
09:50
Wait I'll give you a link with some things to try

sure
11:45
why not? :)
11:45
they have very little ram
11:45
but they work
11:46
<alkisg>
I think "nomodeset" is needed in pxelinux.cfg/default for their ati cards to work ok...
11:47
<knipwim>
i was wondering about the soundcard
11:47
apparently the intel8x0 driver is used
11:47
<Appiah>
alkisg: I have not touched the pxelinux.cfg/default
11:47
<knipwim>
but i saw little successtories in the web
11:47
<Appiah>
what dist and version?
11:47
knipwim: where?
11:48
<knipwim>
gentoo on ltsp5.2.5
11:48
<Appiah>
I have not used gentoo for a long time
11:48
<knipwim>
thinking of buying one
11:48
<Appiah>
but sound works wihout anything extra needed on ubuntu
11:48
<knipwim>
gentoo shouldn't be a problem
11:48
<Appiah>
buying a T5710?? Can you still find one?

secondhand
11:49
<Appiah>
ah
11:49
<knipwim>
100 euros
11:49
or am i being ripped off then :)
11:49
<Appiah>
well I've seen T5710 work
11:49
My first customer who I helped with LTSP was a school that mostly had those
11:49
still works
11:50
<alkisg>
Ah sorry I didn't remember correctly, the problem with t5710 that a user had was "inverted screen" (because of nvidia drivers on the server), solved by disabling compiz.

11:51
<coordinador>
updating from 9.10
11:51
<alkisg>
Ah, it worked in 9.10, but it never worked in 10.04?
11:52
<coordinador>
after reboot server, i got this errors
11:52
<alkisg>
Did you rebuild the chroot?
11:52
I.e. did you run ltsp-build-client after the update?
11:52
<coordinador>
alkisg, im afraid of do that because i installed many localapps
11:52
<alkisg>
Urm. So you want to use 9.10 on the chroot but 10.04 in the server, and solve the problem in 20' ?
11:52
<coordinador>
last error says "no init found. Try passing init= bootarg."
11:53
<alkisg>
(17'... :))
11:53
<coordinador>
and finally i got a busybox prompt
11:53
<alkisg>
Can you try this in the busybox prompt? nbd-client 1.2.3.4 2000 /dev/nbd0
11:53
(server ip there)
11:53
<coordinador>
in 1.2.3.4 goes server ip?
11:54
<alkisg>
yup
11:54
<coordinador>
ok
11:55
i got many lines saying "nbd0: Attempted send on closed socket"
11:55
and "end_request: I/0 error, dev nbd0, sector 0
11:55
<alkisg>

11:57
<alkisg>

11:57
<coordinador>

11:57

Paastebin the last lines there, that show the connection you just tried from busybox
11:58
Or paste them here if they are a few...
11:58
<coordinador>
last line says: Read failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device
11:58
and the previous line says: Size of exported file/device is 857636864

<alkisg>
Hmmm the nbd client versions are different in 9.10 from 10.04...
12:00
<coordinador>
what about if i just rebuild /opt/ltsp/i386 directory?
12:00
<alkisg>
I hope nothing serious changed between them
12:00
That's what ltsp-build-client does, and you lose all your localapps
12:00
<coordinador>
ok dont care its kind of urgent
12:00
lusers will use few progs xD

still waiting...
12:08
Specifically, which is the cause of this error?
12:08
(the error that i had, related to nbd)
12:10
<alkisg>
No idea, I'm suspecting nbd-server/nbd-client version mismatch, but I don't think it's too likely..
12:11
<coordinador>
ok thank you
12:12
<alkisg>
You chose a bad time to upgrade, with little time to fix possible problems :)
12:15

for some reason, it requires hal to be installed

and then the LTSP shutdown works!

so LXDE is still the only environment that properly supports LTSP shutdown/reboot for thin clients :)
