<rickogden>
hi all, I'm experimenting with fat clients and have been following the page on the ubuntu manual site
02:27
I've built an new client and given it the chroot fat-i386 (as I already have a client with the chroot i386 which is thin)
02:27
I can't seem to find a way to specify the chroot in ltsp-update-image

rickogden: the easiest way is to move all your old /opt/ltsp directory to /opt/ltsp-thin, while trying with fats
02:57
Once you get fats going, you don't need the thin one, the fat can boot thins too

Hyperbyte: Even with those specs, I'd still prefer a local installation, either vbox or even AoE.
12:21
vagrantc: yeah it looks like you were right about eval in xinitrc. getltscfg indeed requires either sourcing the output, or eval'ing it. The problem was/is in the xinitrc parameters, those didn't use quotes so that resulted in eval breaking the parameters with spaces or ''.
12:21
I'll put it back and make a note to always quote all the command line in xinitrc
12:21
<vagrantc>
alkisg: glad to be right :)
12:24
<Hyperbyte>
alkisg, do you think LTSP + X + VirtualBox + Windows 7 can run on a thin client with 1GB ram?
12:24
<alkisg>
Hyperbyte: I think it'll suffer a bit, but it'll go much, much better on youtube than with any remote graphics technology
12:25
<Hyperbyte>
Actually, I only plan to use the Windows 7 to test the websites I develop.
12:25
<Gadi>
Hyperbyte: you may want to look into using freerdp as a local app
12:25
they have recently added support for RemoteFX and multimedia redirection

<Gadi>
in the case of Youtube, remotefx should increase the performance dramatically
12:26
<mgariepy>
Gadi, did you tests it ?

<Gadi>
remotefx only works with VDI (not terminal services)
12:26

12:27
alkisg: hi
12:27
sorry - crazy days
12:27
<alkisg>
Hey Gadi
12:28
<Gadi>
I havent had a chance to test/follow the xinit changes
12:28
did you sort it all out?
12:28
<alkisg>
I think so
12:28
At first, I thought of the correct way, i.e. to pass real command line parameters
12:28
That's what I committed
12:29
Then, you brought up the -- problem and I started thinking about it again
12:29Nick change: Parker955 -> Parker955_Away
12:29
<alkisg>
So to allow for "--" as a xinit parameter, we need to use "getltscfg-style" parameters again
12:29
So eval will be required in xinitrc,
12:29
but the problem up until now, which broke e.g. -u '', was that the xinitrc command line was unquoted
12:30
So I think that by putting: xinitrc "$all $params $here",
12:30
and then eval inside xinitrc, we'll have '' not break, spaces in parameters etc
12:30
And -- too
12:32
<Gadi>
hmm... sounds like a theory
12:32
:)
12:33
<alkisg>
It's close to what we had so far, but quoting the parameters should also fix most of the problems we had
12:33
I'll test it a bit tonight or tomorrow, and if it goes well I'll put it up
12:33
<Gadi>
cool
12:33
gonna do it in between protests ? ;)
12:34
<alkisg>
Haha we're on the news? :D
