LTSP doesn't have an Ubuntu dependency. But it's only available for distributions that use initramfs-tools, or don't use an initramfs at all, currently. It can't be used in dracut-based distributions.
06:52
I spent some time testing dracut and reporting bugs upstream, but I didn't get any reply at all from its developers. So if they don't care, why would I care about supporting them... :)
06:54
But if warewulf supports CentOS, maybe they've worked around bugs and issues, it might be worth it to see how they handle netbooting

<tru_tru>
would LTSP work with alpine linux?
08:50
<alkisg>
tru_tru: which initramfs generator is alpine linux using?
08:51
<tru_tru>
alkisg: quinox tips for live install/ephemeral apt install works fine :P (one less hurdle) on my initial testing of lts2040-server chroot (yes I am not giving up!)
08:52
<quinox>
hooray
08:52
at the core current LTSP is just Linux with a fancy way of booting it over the network
08:52
(the old LTSP was a bit more particular)
08:52
<alkisg>
Yeh, if the initramfs'es were properly designed, ltsp wouldn't be needed at all
08:52
<tru_tru>
alpine is doing their own tooling: https://wiki.alpinelinux.org/wiki/Initramfs_init
08:53
<alkisg>
tru_tru: then someone would need to port the initramfs bits of ltsp there
08:53
<tru_tru>
openrc instead of systemd, musl instead of glibc,...
08:53
<alkisg>
For example, ltsp can boot raspberry pi os, which doesn't use an initramfs at all
08:53
<tru_tru>
rpi is on the list for me too, I have rpi1 taking dust at home
