<AustriaBound>
Hello all LTSP admins. I've got a successful user creation on NFS /home with remote LDAP. I'll be publishing the setup on the ltsp.org site. Just as a preview, this is a new linux user who was able to setup a virtual headless ltsp with remote home connectivity that is all passed through a remote ldap server.
00:02
Now I have an awesome lab with 50 clients. They have crossover installed on the clients so they run windows programs as well.

Would there be a way to offer a multiboot menu that could allow for a selection of images?
06:17
What would be ideal, would be a screen option that would: 1. allow for ldm session 2. for rdp session

<Hyperbyte>
wvsfxr, hi
13:29
Are you using fat or thin clients?
13:30
Oh sorry, didn't read enough
13:30
Thin clients.
13:30
Do you want to configure the language for the login prompt (LTSP's login manager) or the desktop that appears after the login manager?
13:31
The first, I believe, can be set with the "LANG" parameter in /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/lts.conf
13:31
For example, LANG=nl_NL.UTF-8
13:31
Or your case, de_DE
13:32
Secondly, regarding the desktop environment - with thin clients, this depends entirely on your distribution.
13:33
So for that one, you need #ubuntu help and not LTSP. LTSP doesn't influence your distro's language.
13:34
I can give you the hint that there's some tool that lets you configure system-wide language from the command line, as well as install the needed packages, but I can't remember the name. I'm sure Google or the gentle folks in #ubuntu will be able to tell more.
13:38
<wvsfxr>
Hyperbyte: I want to configure the standard language for both. I can change the language at the login screen and then it works, but I dont want the users to change the language all the time.
13:39
My problem is, that lts.conf settings doesnt take effect. I'm doing something wrong.
13:41
In /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/lts.conf I set: LDM_LANGUAGE="de_AT.UTF-8"
13:46
Do I have to restart nbd-server or something else if I change lts.conf?
13:55
<Hyperbyte>
15:31 <Hyperbyte> For example, LANG=nl_NL.UTF-8
13:56
Try that.
13:56
but then de_DE
13:57
<wvsfxr>
I tried, but it didnt work.
13:57
<Hyperbyte>
You said you tried LDM_LANGUAGE
13:57
I said you should try LANG
13:58
<wvsfxr>
Yes, but then I realized the mistake and tried it with LANG
13:58
<Hyperbyte>
Maybe the correct locale isn't installed in the client chroot.
13:58
Either way, forget login screen for now. Focus on getting your entire system to one language. And for that, check Google or ask in #ubuntu.
13:59
When you have that working, we can consult alkisg about the login screen. alkisg is the LTSP oracle.

wvsfxr: no, how you were able to use raspberry as a thin client
15:45
btw, where is ltsp updated documentation? I'm no more able to mount homes as nfs and not sshfs
15:46
<wvsfxr>
markit: I just took the zip file from http://www.berryterminal.com/doku.php/berryboot and unpacked it onto a fat16 formated sd-card.
15:48
Then booted the raspi and selected to install BerryTerminal.

<markit>
wvsfxr: does after reboot login in ltsp LDM or is a stand alone installation and you have to start a separate session then to log into ltsp?
15:50
<Hyperbyte>
markit, have you rebuilt your client? Could it be you're missing the nfs-common package in your chroot?
15:50
<markit>
Hyperbyte: hi, I've the feeling that hostname needs to be "server" to have things go smootly
15:50
Hyperbyte: good shot!
15:51
Hyperbyte: I've rebuild the chroot but I'm not sure there is a nfs-client there
15:51

<Hyperbyte>
Do that, then try mounting manually. See if that works.
15:51
Probably says it doesn't recognize filesystem type nfs
15:51
<markit>
Hyperbyte: in fact, there is not (ltsp-chroot, then dpkg -l | grep nfs)
15:52
Hyperbyte: was in a hurry and cut too many corners ;P
15:52
Hyperbyte: thanks a lot
15:53
<wvsfxr>
markit: it comes directly to login because my dhcp server tells to boot with the image from ltsp-server.
15:55
<markit>
wvsfxr: ah, so you have a image for arm cpu in ltsp server? (a thin one, I suppose), how did you created it and how your dhcp server is configure to work both with i386 and raspbery (if this is the case)
15:55
?
15:57
<wvsfxr>
Hyperbyte: You said that ldm doesnt influence the language settings of xfce4. Is this correct?
15:58
<Hyperbyte>
wvsfxr, not entirely sure now I think about it. It probably can, but by default it picks the system language.
15:58
<wvsfxr>
markit: no, I just use the i386 image.
15:59* markit confused with wvsfxr
16:00
<Hyperbyte>
wvsfxr, I think what markit is trying to say: how are you using an i386 image on an arm processor?
16:00
<markit>
Hyperbyte: well, I would say: you CAN'T ever never do that ;P
16:01
<wvsfxr>
Hyperbyte: I wonder, because if I set the language on login screen, the language setting is correctly german in my xfce4 session.
16:01
<markit>
Hyperbyte: you have been more diplomatic
16:03
<Hyperbyte>
wvsfxr, and you're logging in via a raspberry pi?
16:04
<wvsfxr>
I think :)
16:04
yes I am
16:06
Now I'm confused. I think I have the wrong view.
16:06
<Hyperbyte>
Raspberry Pi has an ARM CPU. It doesn't work with an i386 chroot.
16:08
<wvsfxr>
Ok, then the arm image comes from berryterminal.
16:09
And I have to configure the language on berryterminal image.
16:09
<markit>
Hyperbyte: any chance to change the expected hostname of ltsp server from "server" to something more peculiar, like "ltspserver"? The probability to have a "server" already in the lan is quite high

markit, in fact, in my lan I have a "server" already
16:26
But it doesn't matter.
16:26
Not really, anyways. "server" isn't the hostname of the LTSP server, it's just an alias LTSP clients use.
16:27
It doesn't conflict with existing servers in the network, as it's not a DNS name.
