Life is a funny thing. I'm wondering if I could somehow get old Celeron 663 from my sister to be used as tc.

At least it got little more stylish case than my own oldies.

contintuing install from yesterday ltsp-server on fedora 14. Running "ltsp-build-client" Answer: "ERROR: fc14 is unsupported". Now what ?
06:21
<Appiah>
well
06:21
umm
06:21
wow , now ever seen anyone use FC for ltsp
06:21
and it looks unsupported by the error message
06:23
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=598134#c19 looks unmaintained / not fixed
06:23
thats FC13 :D
06:23MorningSon has joined #ltsp
06:25
<simbulu>
Well yes ltsp seems unsupported on fc14. Still the ltsp-server rpm came from standard fedora repository.
06:25
<Appiah>
bet it's just moved from F12 repo
06:25
to F13 repo
06:25
and now F14
06:26
<simbulu>
and according to /etc/sysconfig/ltspdist only fc{9,10,11,12} and el5 are supported. Othewise there is a fallback to fc9
06:26
<Appiah>
FC seams to be fiddling around the ltsp stuff and no one touched it when it became F13 and F14
06:26
so it's a matter of packageing in Fedora
06:26
ping the maintainer
06:26
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=598134#c23 this comment says something..
06:27barbosa has quit IRC
06:27
<Appiah>
it's not LTSP upstream issue , Fedora issue
06:27
<simbulu>
yep - the maintainer seems to be on vacation - and I will have to maintain myself for now
06:28
sure it is a fedora packaging thing - I will see how far I can get ...
06:28
<Appiah>
good luck
06:29
<simbulu>
the challenge for me is that I know very little of the ltsp internals - but reading source is fun anyway :)
06:37bobby_C has joined #ltsp

starting by fixing /etc/sysconfig/ltspdist. Done. Now a ltsp-i386.ks for is needed for fc14

kickstart configuration?
07:05
maybe you can edit the old one?
07:06
<tech_dvo>
is there a difference where you place lts.conf?
07:07
I've been placing them in /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/
07:07
<Appiah>
ltsp5.x thats the right place
07:07
/opt/ltsp was for ltsp4
07:07
<tech_dvo>
but some instructions says to place them in /opt/ltsp/i386/etc
07:07
<Appiah>
you had to rebuild the client each time you place it in /opt
07:08
now you just have to restart the client
07:08
<tech_dvo>
I have one client that 'hangs' everytime I log out (ubuntu 10.10 ltsp)
07:09
any idea how I could trouble shoot this?
07:09
one type of client
07:09
<Appiah>
just one? is it different from the others?
07:09
so you select logout and then it just gets stuck?
07:09
<tech_dvo>
I have to configure XSERVER=vesa for these clients
07:09
yes
07:10
rebooting them then makes them hang
07:10
they'll reboot okay after 20-30min
07:13
<Appiah>
I've had clients stuck at rebooting on ubuntu 10.10 (not ltsp)
07:14
<tech_dvo>
how did you troubleshoot them?
07:14
<Appiah>
I never did , one was my own Ubuntu Desktop
07:14
I scratched that installation for Gentoo so :D
07:15
<tech_dvo>
I'm not familiar with Gentoo :( besides, I like to use Ubuntu -- school purposes :)
07:16
<Appiah>
not telling you to switch beacuse of that ;) I switched dist on my desktop for other reasons
07:16
try acpi=off on kernel line for those clients
07:16
see if it changes anything
07:17
acpi=force I mean
07:17
<tech_dvo>
in lts.conf, right?
07:23
Appiah: I'll try this tomorrow (my time) as I am out of the school and doing this at home, just can't get this out of my head until I have something -- this is something. thanks!

Do people in general run ltsp with or without selinux ? I get the impression that selinux is usually turned off on ltsp boxes, but I would like to be corrected.
09:37
<alkisg>
E.g. in ubuntu selinux if off by default, and most people I know leave it off :D
09:37
Don't know about other distros, I think maybe fedora has it enabled by default? But ltsp is lacking in fedora...

on fc14 selinux is an option at install time - default is on. I will turn selinux off for now and reboot the box again.
09:40
<Nubae>
yeah definetly want selinux off
09:41
hows it going anyway?
09:41
<simbulu>
or rather I will run with selinux in permissive mode
09:43
Nubae, Running on fc14 - working on getting ltsp-build-client to work
09:52
installation (yum install ltsp-server) gave me version 5.1.95-1fc13.x86_64 which I am trying to configure.
09:53
fixed a few bugs, and created a few new files. Current problem is ltsp-build-client which fails with "Autoconfigured Kickstart: /etc/ltsp/kickstart/Fedora/14/ltsp-386.ks"
09:54
<Nubae>
guess compare it to the f13 ks
09:54
<simbulu>
Note: Root directory /opt/ltsp/i386 already exists, this will lead to problemss, please remove it before trying again. Exiting. Error: LTSP client installation abnormally."
09:54
<Nubae>
thats normal
09:55
happens every time u rebuild client
09:55
<simbulu>
yep - I created 14.ks from 13.ks. Ok.
09:55
<Nubae>
just delete it and start again
09:55
<simbulu>
then I will just "rm -rf /opt/ltsp/i386 ; ltsp-build-client"
09:55
<Nubae>
yup
09:57
<simbulu>
thanks - I am a novice on ltsp - so it is good to be advised on what is normal and not.
09:58
worked - almost - "Error to creating image: Failed to find package 'system-config-display'. No package available to install.

common.ks refers to system-config-display - removing reference and trying again

<simbulu>
Same thing common.ks refers to non-existing package. fixed.
10:09
<Nubae>
packages may have changed names too
10:10
<simbulu>
ltsp-build-client now gives some warnings like: "No such package anacron to remove" . I am not trying to fix those warnings for now.
10:10staffencasa has joined #ltsp
10:10
<Nubae>
yeah again, packages may have changed names
10:11
but removing is step 1 I guess, u can always add the missing lines afterwards with proper packages if they exist
10:13
<simbulu>
at the moment it downloads a lot of rpm's - perhaps I should read the release notes in the meanwhile
10:22
man has been replaced by man-db. install-info complains about missing directory (I guess that is normal as well)
10:26
and sed somplains "cant read /etc/init.d/halt: and /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit: No such file or directory" . In general: after installin 410 packages: warning post scriptlet failed, exit status 2. Hmm.

keyboard layout?

up
11:27
yup
11:28
for some reason, it didn't copy the regional keyboard layout setting from the server side.
11:28
or well, it seems to work for LDM but not for screen2.
11:29
<alkisg>
sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup inside the chroot helps with that
11:29
<Q-FUNK>
yup, that's what I did.
11:30
I just wonder why the chroot doesn't automatically get configured to use the same keyboard map for both X and console-setup.
