Hey, everyone! I've another newbie question...
02:51
I use ltsp 4.2 and 2.6.16 kernel(2.6.17 doesnot work with my NIC). rc. usb has "for module in usb-uhci usb-ohci ehci-hcd uhci-hcd ohci-hcd...." strings but anyway no usb keyboard or mouse available after terminal startup.
02:52
I tried to use MODULE_01 option for loadin modules usb-uhci or uhci-hcd etc. but got an error "Failed to load uhci-hcd module"
02:52
Did I forget smth. to make usb work on ltsp terminal?

<pani_alex>

10:05
<joebaker>
Are you using etherboot?
10:05
<pani_alex>
i'll tell you
10:06
i'm confused, etherboot is via the network card or diskete
10:06
?
10:06g333k has quit IRC
10:07
<joebaker>
Etherboot is a program you get from rom-o-matic.net which is specific to the model of Network Card you have.
10:07
<pani_alex>
i don't have a network card that suports pxe so i will do it by floppy
10:07
<joebaker>
OK, that sounds good. That's what I usually do.
10:07
<pani_alex>
i wrote in a linux knoppix
10:07
<joebaker>
Have you found the PCI data for the Network card? lspci -v
10:08
<pani_alex>
cat /path/bootImage... /dev/fd0
10:08
i have downloaded a image for my onboard lan sis900
10:09
what is lspci -v?
10:09
<joebaker>
List pci information
10:10
It tells you the vendor ID and some other id information which can further identify the chipset used on your card.
10:10
So did you make the floppy?
10:11
<pani_alex>
the list is to long and i can't see all
10:12
not
10:12
i try but it stops until finish
10:12
and get a error
10:12
<joebaker>
Pipe the output through less like this lspci -v | less
10:13
I'm not really sure if "the list" is the output of an lspci command
10:13
Or if "the list" referrs to the output of booting off the floppy.
10:16
<pani_alex>
i have search again and my onboard net card supose to suport boot
10:16
i put it to boot by nerwork, is thise ok?
10:16
joebaker:
10:17
<joebaker>
Yes, if your bios has a setting to boot from the network...
10:17
you can do that.
10:17
Expecially if the NIC is integrated onto the motherboard. This is called PXE booting.
10:18
It simplifies allot.
10:18
Although the DHCP configurations are somewhat different than I am accustomed to supporting.
10:18
<pani_alex>
i try but i apears to not foud the server and continue booting other devices

What's next in the documentation?

10:20

dont know, i have installed the k12ltsp, it supose to have all enable and runing

<joebaker>

10:23
<joebaker>
ps ax | grep dhcpd
10:23
<pani_alex>
i shoult write that?
10:24
<joebaker>
sure, paste it into a terminal window as root
10:24
to start dhcp you could run.....
10:25
/etc/init.d/dhcpd restart
10:25
note the space before restart
10:26
restart or start or stop or maybe even "status" are valid commands
10:26
WARNING... if your network has a DHCP server, you should not run DHCPd on your linux box. The services interfere with each other.

Perhaps the cabling isn't good enough? I've seen clients that could slowly pass traffic over bad cables yet, dhcp is UDP traffic so retransmissions are not as common.

The server's firewall software... Have you opened ports for DHCP, NFS, TFTP, portmap, etc... Maybe try running the server with the firewall off.

In the next version which we're finalizing now (ltsp5), you should be able to see a hard drive, however, I, for one, never understand why people want to see hard drives on diskless thin clients :)

Hi everybody!!!
14:54
I have an "K12ltsp" server installed
14:54
I know that is not extrictly an ltsp... but share basis with
14:55
my problem is that when I try to boot from a client using an vt-6105 card
14:56
from a diskette, It remains saying 0200 AX:0212 BX:2400 CX:0001 DX:0100
14:56
one an another time... and no booting
14:56
<dtrask>
knitoperu: what is a vt-6105? What brand?
14:56
<knitoperu>
does anyone knows what's happening???
14:57
<dtrask>
knitoperu: Are you using the Universal Boot Floppy image?
14:57
<knitoperu>
is a network card enl832-TX-VA ( I'm almost sure that is an Encore)
14:57

no it's in K12LTSP....just outside the bootrom images directory

How can I run Skype on a ltsp thin client? The server is running edubuntu. The clients play normal mp3's just fine, but I can't find a way to get skype audio workin...
15:13
<Gadi>
ctkroeker: you cannot at this time - LTSP currently does not support bidirectional audio by default

this will hopefully change in the next release

not even

now, that doesnt mean you cant hack it up
15:15
<ctkroeker>
Just to make sure, do any other VoIP apps work?
15:15
<Gadi>
but, atm, LTSP uses "esd" as its sound transport mechanism, and it only supports audio playback
15:15
<ctkroeker>
ah
15:16
<Gadi>
in the next release, we will move to pulseaudio, which will add bidirectional supportt
15:16
<ctkroeker>
how would you propose "I hack it up" on the current version?
15:16
<Gadi>
there is a wiki on the web somewhere for getting it to use pulseaudio
15:17
or, as an alternative, you can look into running Skype as a local app on the client
15:17
which would actually be the best way of doing it, if you plan on having lots of clients using VOIP at the same time
15:18
<ctkroeker>
you got a manual somewhere?
15:18
I looked into the pulseaudio and it doesn't look so promissing
15:18
<Gadi>
heh - if I had a manual, we wouldn't need a manual, because it would be in there :)
