<vagrantc>
sirderigo: depending on the version, you could just install the ltsp-client packages on debian, but it will require a fair amount of understanding ltsp.
00:36
to get all the moving parts to work together
00:37
sirderigo: so to answer your initial question, it's definitely possible.
00:37
sirderigo: for starters, you'll need to change your boot parameters to include: init=/sbin/init-ltsp
00:39
and the version sdon't need to match that much... but very old versions might have more issues, sure.
00:40* vagrantc isn't impressed with berryterminal
00:40
<vagrantc>
but i'm biased, being that it's not hard to use raspbian and LTSP to do the same thing, without a single-purpose OS without the flexibility of a full distro.
00:45
<sirderigo>
vagrantc: excuse me, i was afk.
00:45
<vagrantc>
no worries, i took hours to respond. that's how irc works sometimes :)
00:45
although i'm about to disappear again
00:46
<sirderigo>
vagrantc: so, if i install ltsp-client and change the init to init-ltsp, it should work?
00:46
vagrantc: dissapearing is always fun :D
00:46
<vagrantc>
sirderigo: more-or-less
00:46
<sirderigo>
can you wait just 2 minutes while i test it?
00:46
<vagrantc>
sirderigo: might be other gotchas ... there are some incompatibilities with ldm, but the workarounds are reasonable.
00:47
i'll wait as long as i wait :)
00:47
<sirderigo>
vagrantc: thanks
00:57
<vagrantc>
sirderigo: any luck?
00:57
<sirderigo>
vagrantc: not yet. Raspbian is kind of different.
00:57* vagrantc nods
00:58
<vagrantc>
sirderigo: you saw the URLs from the ltsp bot?
00:59
you can actually build a raspbian chroot with ltsp-build-client with one of those howtos
01:00
<sirderigo>
vagrantc: that´s what i decided to do, just getting through the final configuration steps :)
01:01
<vagrantc>
i never did write up the firmware docs very clearly... and i think raspbian has since included a separate firmware package...
01:02
<sirderigo>
vagrantc: so, it was you. Very clever, i must say
01:02
<vagrantc>
i should take a look at it again sometime... although i was pretty unimpressed by the performance
01:02
although i was running on an older rpi with only 256MB of ram...
01:03
<sirderigo>
vagrantc: got a model b with 512, i want to see where can it take me
01:03
<vagrantc>
helped to get the first raspbian kernel packaged like the other debian kernels... basically that's how i spent the first few days of 2013 :)
01:04
<sirderigo>
vagrantc: awesome
01:04
<vagrantc>
there are a number of other arm platforms out since that will likely perform a lot better and can run plain debian... though i never did try the accelerated graphics on the rpi
01:04
that might make all the difference
01:08
<sirderigo>
vagrantc: almost done installing ltsp-client in my pi
01:10
<vagrantc>
good luck!
01:11
worst case, you end up learning a lot about LTSP and becoming another developer :)

Sounds like Vagrantc is the one you want to talk to... I am not sure who else in here has done much with ltsp on arm
16:29
<sirderigo>
I keep on getting this "chroot: fallo al ejecutar la orden «locale-gen»: No such file or directory" trying to make a debian Chroot for ltsp-clients.
16:29
Any idea of what can i do?

<alkisg>
And is $CHROOT/usr/sbin/locale-gen available/
16:40
?
16:40
Which server and chroot distro/version? What ltsp-build-client command?
16:43
<sirderigo>
alkisg: i started running this manual: http://cascadia.debian.net/trenza/Documentation/raspberrypi-ltsp-howto/ and nope, did a chroot to the /opt/ltsp/armhf and added the /etc/apt/sources.list
16:43
and then i was able to run /sbin/locale-gen
16:44
I am using Edubuntu 13.04
16:45
<alkisg>
AFAIK one needs `VENDOR=Debian ltsp-build-client ...` to build a debian chroot on an ubuntu server
16:45
<mgariepy>
alkisg, do you set VOLUME for clients somewhere?
16:46
<alkisg>
Hi mgariepy, no I'm not using that
16:47
<mgariepy>
alkisg, ok
16:47
<alkisg>
mgariepy: did you see any issues?
16:47
<mgariepy>
I have a bug with this, lts.conf variable aren't exported in udev env. so Volume control isn't applied correctly.
16:48
<alkisg>
afaik the udev env should run some of our scripts, which would then source ltsp_config, which would include VOLUME
16:48
<mgariepy>
on 12.04 and ltsp-5.3.7
16:49
I added : eval $(getltscfg-cluster -a -l refresh) || true
16:49
and now the volume get applied correctly
16:49
in /lib/udev/ltsp-sound.
16:49
<alkisg>
[ -r "/usr/share/ltsp/ltsp_config" ] && . /usr/share/ltsp/ltsp_config
16:49
Maybe something to do with ltsp-cluster?
16:49
<sirderigo>
alkisg: so, should i do export $VENDOR=debian before running ltsp-build-client?
16:50
<alkisg>
sirderigo: I think so, with a capital D

<mgariepy>
alkisg, maybe
16:52
<sirderigo>
alkisg: running ltsp-build-client again, we will see.
16:54
<mgariepy>
alkisg, when you source this file, on a ltsp client you have all lts.conf varable exported ?
16:54
<alkisg>
mgariepy: hmm no, I think only the ones that called set_lts_var
16:55* alkisg thinks that our config system needs to be rewritten :)
16:55
<mgariepy>
so it's a ltsp bug :P
16:55
<alkisg>
Not sure
16:55
I'd need to re-read that code.. blame Gadi :P
16:56
<mgariepy>

Then [FAILED] startpar_ service(s) returned failure: ltsp-client-core
21:55
<vagrantc>
you could put some debugging in /opt/ltsp/*/etc/init.d/ltsp-client-core
21:55
i.e. "set -x"
21:56
Microbiantech: this is on a raspberry pi?
21:56
<Microbiantech>
Yes, model B
21:56
<vagrantc>
Microbiantech: how exactly did you build it? what instructions did you use?
21:56
<Microbiantech>
This ones
21:56
http://cascadia.debian.net/trenza/Documentation/raspberrypi-ltsp-howto/
21:57
<vagrantc>
well, i guess i'm the expert then :)
21:57
<Microbiantech>
Haha, yes, you are... People here talks a lot about you
21:58
<vagrantc>
not sure what would fail in ltsp-client-core ... most stuff has "|| true" at the end
21:59
is plymouth installed?
21:59
i do recall that causing all sorts of problems
21:59
<Microbiantech>
Yes, plymouth is installed
22:00
I used the " sed -i -e 's,/bin/plymouth quit --retain-splash.*,/bin/plymouth quit --retain-splash || true,g' /opt/ltsp/armhf/etc/init.d/ltsp-client-core" fix
22:02
<vagrantc>
hrm.
22:02
<Microbiantech>
Forget about it, just reinstalled plymouth
22:02
And boot...
22:02
<vagrantc>
i'd even suggest removing plymouth entirely...
22:02
it works after re-installing plymouth?
22:03
<Microbiantech>
Yeah.. .-.
22:03
I really don't know why
22:03* vagrantc neither
22:04
<Microbiantech>
Well, it happens... Really don't know why

Hi, can anyone tell me how to use xrandr to span dual monitors instead of mirroring them?

<vagrantc>
derekn: there are some XRANDR options in the lts.conf manpage
23:27
derekn: i'm not sure exactly how to do what you want, though
23:29
<alkisg>
Example, XRANDR_COMMAND_01="xrandr --auto --output DVI-0 --mode 1440x900 --right-of DVI-1"
23:29
I.e. you can put whatever xrandr command you like in lts.conf...
23:29
Try it from a terminal first, and when you get it right, put it in lts.conf
23:30
<derekn>
I hadn't seen the xrandr_command option. I'll try that and see if it works. Thanks.
