07:27
<gudbes_>
hello everybody
07:28
is it possible to open 2 sessions with the same user
07:41
<alkisg>
gudbes_: yes, it is
07:42
But, most programs don't support that
07:42
Like gnome, firefox, chrome etc
07:42
So in general it's not recommented, in any distro/OS etc
07:42
Why don't you want different user accounts per user?
07:44
<gudbes_>
hi alkisg
07:44
<alkisg>
hello
07:45
<gudbes_>
i have a software (use with wine)
07:46
and i want use with 2 users but with the same database
07:46
<alkisg>
Does this software support multiple users using it simultaneously from the same path?
07:46
It needs special programming from the software itself
07:46
Otherwise one user may overwrite the data of the other user
07:46
(even if it's the same user)
07:47
<gudbes_>
I can not configure wine to have a base commume so I was thinking about this solution
07:47
<alkisg>
OK, answer that question first
07:47
The "how" part comes second
07:48
(10:46:25 πμ) alkisg: Does this software support multiple users using it simultaneously from the same path?
07:48
(10:46:36 πμ) alkisg: It needs special programming from the software itself
07:48
(10:46:47 πμ) alkisg: Otherwise one user may overwrite the data of the other user
07:48
<gudbes_>
the software is multiuser
07:49
<alkisg>
So it performs file locks for each transaction with different file paths?
07:49
OK, it's your data to lose. So, can you run that software 2 times as the same user?
07:50
<gudbes_>
i don't know .... but i can try with 2 same user for see
07:50
<alkisg>
Just launch it two times normally and see if it runs
07:50
<gudbes_>
ok i try
07:50
<alkisg>
LTSP allows the same user to login from different terminals, it's not a problem there
07:51
But again, it's very rare that the software is designed for that, so you'll probably lose data
07:51
And of course one bad transaction can completely damage your whole database
07:51
<gudbes_>
it's ok i launch 2 times the software
07:52
<alkisg>
OK, then you can login as the same user and run it, no problem from ltsp
07:52
Note: the fact that it runs doesn't mean that you won't lose your data. It needs to have special programming.
07:53
<gudbes_>
i don't work ... but i use gnome interface that's why
07:53
<alkisg>
That's a question for #gnome then
07:53
Not for #ltsp
07:53
<gudbes_>
yes i understand
07:53
<alkisg>
If you want to use the same WINEPREFIX for 2 different users, that's a question for #wine-hq
07:54
That's doable as well
07:54
<gudbes_>
oh thx
07:54
<alkisg>
np
07:54
<gudbes_>
I will ask my question for wine
07:55
nobody on #wine-hq :'(
07:55
<alkisg>
Mistake, it's #winehq
07:56
<gudbes_>
:) thx

<gudbes_>
with a client software
14:04
<alkisg>
gudbes_: you need to say more info if you want help
14:05
If you mean "how to connect remotely to a computer", you can use ssh, x2go, rdp, vnc...
