work_alkisg: hi, in a mailing list there is an italian user that describes this behaviour of epoptes, don't know version or other details: "since some day ago, after some hour of perfect work I loose the client icons! Yesterday, when I turn on a client (whichever), it's icon appears on epoptes for some seconds then disappears sp you can't manage the class anymore. I've tried to update epoptes but with no luck. LTSP itself seems to work fine". Any idea?
12:43
One (sigh) suggested "try iTalk, now is suggested by edubuntu 14", is it true?

<alkisg>
Hi markit
13:26
Just tell him to use the normal support methods
13:26
E.g. questions at launchpad or irc...
13:27
I haven't heard that edubuntu suggests italc, I think it still ships with epoptes
13:30
markit: from Epoptes → Help menu → Ask a question, or Live chat (IRC)
13:32
It's sad that users don't expect to get support from the "official" methods, and resort to unofficial forums or mailing lists, and get frustrated when they don't get help there...
13:32
Fortunately in open source programs, many of the developers actually help their users

<Payo>
hey guys i've been reading stuff about ltsp but I have a question
13:35
if I understand correctly the client downloads an image from the server, it's not just "streaming" of video ? how big is that image? will it work well in wifi ?
13:35
<Hyperbyte>
Payo, depends on what client type you use. You can choose a client type during the building of the client.
13:36
<Payo>
ok, I was going to use berryterminal on a rpi if that matters
13:37
<Hyperbyte>
There's fat clients, which transfer a full image via network to the client and all software runs on the client.
13:37
Then there's thin clients, which transfer a basic image via network, that streams all software for the client via network.
13:38
<Payo>
how big is that basic image ?
13:38
<Hyperbyte>
!raspberrypi
13:38
<ltsp`>
raspberrypi: (#1) LTSP with raspberry pi: http://cascadia.debian.net/trenza/Documentation/raspberrypi-ltsp-howto/, or (#2) To use a similar environment to LTSP on the raspberry pi http://berryterminal.com/, or (#3) https://github.com/gbaman/RaspberryPi-LTSP, or (#4) https://pi-ltsp.net
13:38
<Hyperbyte>
Payo, doesn't matter. The image isn't stored on the client, it's streamed via network.
13:39
But I believe it's about 300-500mb disk space on the server.
13:39
<Payo>
yeah but I mean if the wifi isn't great will it be ok ?
13:43
<Hyperbyte>
Wifi can't PXE boot. That's your first problem.
13:45
<Payo>
ok

work_alkisg: back. yep, and if something is wrong they tend to change program instead of try to improve it. In any case is an italian teacher I suppose, and italia teachers don't speak english nor are able to use/understand computers

markit: about changing the program, no worries, we did that too. Epoptes was developed exactly because we were using iTalc, it was always crashing, and there were no bug fixes and no feedback at all from its developer.
