<vlt>
Hello :-) I installed Ubuntu 16.04, mate-desktop, ltsp-server and then ran ltsp-buil-client. My thin client boots via PXE, shows the X login screen but when I enter my user name and the correct password I get the login sccreen again after a few seconds of black. After a wrong password I get a "wrong password" message.
22:12
Any idea what I have to do to get my desktop session?
22:13
http://termbin.com/i6el This is auth.log on the server.
22:22* vlt tries to install ubuntu-mate-desktop as well
22:26
<vagrantc>
that's curious
22:27
vlt: my hunch is for some reason it's running as a fat client, but you don't have any desktop environment installed in the client?
22:27
vlt: I'd recommend trying the ltsp-pnp method:
22:27
!ltsp-pnp | echo vlt
22:27
<ltsp>
vlt ltsp-pnp: ltsp-pnp is an alternative (upstream) method to maintain LTSP installations for thin and fat clients that doesn't involve chroots: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/ltsp-pnp
22:27
<vagrantc>
it's much simpler to set up.
22:28
<vlt>
vagrantc: Ok, thank you. I’ll try that next.
22:28
We have been using LTSP the "old" way since 2006. But with every update of firefox it gets more and more unusable :-/
22:29
<vagrantc>
vlt: you might also need to install ldm-server
22:29
but it *should* work without that...
22:29
vlt: ltsp-info --verbose
22:29
vlt: and paste that to ...
22:29
!pastebin | echo vlt
22:29
<ltsp>
vlt pastebin: try !paste
22:29
<vagrantc>
!paste | echo vlt
22:29
<ltsp>
vlt paste: the LTSP pastebin is at http://ltsp.pastebin.com. Please paste all text longer than a line or two to the pastebin, as it helps to reduce traffic in the channel. Don't forget to paste the URL of the text here.
22:31
<vlt>
ltsp-info --verbose ==> http://termbin.com/22l0
22:32
<vagrantc>
there's also the ppa's with updated packages...
22:32
!ppa
22:32
<ltsp>
I do not know about 'ppa', but I do know about these similar topics: 'sbalneav-ppa', 'greek-schools-ppa'
22:33
<vagrantc>
!greek-schools-ppa | echo vlt
22:33
<ltsp>
vlt greek-schools-ppa: https://launchpad.net/~ts.sch.gr/+archive/ppa/ supports LTS Ubuntu releases with newer LTSP versions, bug fixes etc
22:33
<vlt>
There was not even the mate-terminal binary available after just installing mate-desktop. I’ll wait for ubuntu-mate-desktop to finish installing …
22:34
<vagrantc>
vlt: does /etc/X11/Xsession exist?
22:34
then *something* should work
22:35
<vlt>
vagrantc: Yes, it exists.
22:35
<vagrantc>
hm.
22:35
<vlt>
The X server on the client runs fine.
22:36
(install is at 4% progress)
22:36* vagrantc has given too many possible paths to take
