| |
14:12 | However, if I restart Epoptes twisted daemon, I definitely can't restablish connection to clients, even by respawning children socat processes.
| |
14:13 | In this case, I need to restart parent epoptes-client script to get connected once again.

18:26 | work_alkisg is now known as alkisg | |
18:26 | <alkisg> lbssousa: it's not meant to be ran by users
| |
18:27 | I'm wondering if it should go on /usr/share though instead
| |
18:31 | <lbssousa> How that? What about epoptes-client user instances (autostarted at login)?
| |
18:33 | <alkisg> lbssousa: they're started by the system, not by the user
| |
18:34 | I'm not talking about if it's a user process or not, I'm talking about if the user is supposed to run it from a menu or a command line or not
| |
18:34 | <lbssousa> Understand.
| |
18:34 | <alkisg> And no, it's not supposed to be ran from the command line except for troubleshooting reasons
| |
18:35 | <lbssousa> It's not meant to be executed interactively.
| |
18:35 | <alkisg> ls also is not interactive
| |
18:35 | But it's something that users run
| |
18:35 | but e.g. systemd-logind is not something that users run
| |
18:35 | it's ran by the system
| |
18:40 | <lbssousa> In this example, you have a system-side daemon and a user-side utility to interact with that daemon. Are you wondering something similar for epoptes-client? Maybe a pure system-only daemon that can act on user sessions?
| |
18:49 | <alkisg> lbssousa: I don't understand why you're asking though, what are you trying to figure out?
| |
18:50 | Is there any misunderstanding about what the epoptes-client application does?
| |
18:51 | <lbssousa> alkisg: oh, sorry! Nothing important. I'm just wondering if some pieces of code in epoptes-client could be simplified a bit if it goes in /sur/bin.
| |
18:51 | e.g. no need to hack PATH variable.
| |
18:51 | <alkisg> Why would the place matter for its simplification?
| |
18:51 | Why would you hack the PATH?
| |
18:52 | Do you mean that part? PATH="$PATH:/sbin:/usr/sbin"
| |
18:52 | <lbssousa> For example.
| |
18:53 | <alkisg> We're using tools that are in sbin
| |
18:53 | We do need to put that in the PATH
| |
18:53 | How would you avoid that by putting epoptes in bin?
| |
18:53 | <lbssousa> Another one is /etc/xdg/autostart/epoptes-client.desktop.
| |
18:54 | But again, it's not important. Don't get me wrong.
| |
18:54 | <alkisg> Could you answer the first one first? :)
| |
18:58 | What I'm proposing to Phantomas is for a system epoptes-client daemon that could be based on ssh,
| |
18:58 | and on multiple session helpers that would connect to that daemon. Or, if we manage to get dbus activation working, that one instead.
| |
19:00 | Now that ssh supports socket forwarding, I don't see a point in implementing the networking parts again, ssh does that fine
| |
19:00 | <lbssousa> SSH-based? It makes me remember italc :) But I really appeciate this idea.
| |
19:01 | <alkisg> italc wasn't ssh based
| |
19:02 | ansible is, afaik
| |
19:03 | <vagrantc> alkisg, phantomas: got everything you want into ltsp/ldm/epoptes?
| |
19:03 | at least for the near future
| |
19:03 | <alkisg> vagrantc: yup
| |
19:03 | I have a changelog prepared for epoptes
| |
19:03 | <vagrantc> oh cool.
| |
19:03 | <alkisg> Do you want me to push the commits about releasing a new version?
| |
19:04 | Or I could pastebin the changelog and you could push it youself, np from me, whatever suits you
| |
19:04 | <vagrantc> alkisg: if you want to prepare the upload, I can just review and sponsor it
| |
19:05 | <alkisg> OK, I'll do it then to gather points to apply for a DM :)

19:08 | although i've never really looked at the website ... wow, that's confusing
| |
19:08 | <maldridge> its pretty simple until you try to do things it wasn't designed for, like tasks launching other tasks
| |
19:08 | <vagrantc> yeah, that's a little cumbersome
| |
19:09 | you can chain two things fairly easily, but more than that is a bit hard

19:24 | vagrantc: I'm thinking that we could migrate epoptes to github to get used to it, and then sometime in the future we might want to do ltsp there as well
| |
19:25 | +1 or -1 from you?
| |
19:26 | <vagrantc> alkisg: not a huge fan of github, but would love to switch to git... :)
| |
19:26 | <alkisg> I'm seeing more and more open source projects switch to it. Even systemd...
| |
19:26 | And I liked the experienced of filing bugs there
| |
19:27 | <vagrantc> alkisg: that's part of the issue ... decentralized revision control all in one place!
| |
19:27 | alkisg: roughly a +0.5 from me :)
| |
19:27 | <alkisg> Revision control is one thing, project management is another
| |
19:27 | <vagrantc> maybe +0.41
| |
19:27 | <alkisg> Haha
| |
19:28 | OK I'll ask if Phantomas likes that or not
| |
19:28 | And we'll have a small issue with translations
| |
19:28 | <vagrantc> ah, still using launchpad translations?
| |
19:28 | <alkisg> Yes, and they're doing a good job there
| |
19:29 | I haven't look at other translation projects that give the ability to translators to use a web browser
| |
19:29 | <vagrantc> well, you could use git-remote-bzr to sync to the bzr branches on launchpad, and then git-remote-bzr to merge the translations occasionally.
| |
19:29 | <alkisg> But that part is a requirement for me, I don't want them having difficulties in translating the software
| |
19:29 | We could just have the .po files in launchpad
| |
19:30 | And have a launchpad recipe merge them on build
| |
19:30 | bzr nest or something like that, it's called...
| |
19:30 | <vagrantc> can launchpad build from github hosted stuff?
| |
19:30 | <alkisg> yes
| |
19:30 | <vagrantc> ppa's and daily builds and all that?
| |
19:30 | <alkisg> Yup
| |
19:30 | <vagrantc> cool.
| |
19:31 | <alkisg> Not with plain recipes, it also needs remote branches
| |
19:31 | which are automatically synced etc etc
| |
19:34 | <lbssousa> alkisg, vagrantc: I've seen several github projects using Tansifex for translations. I've never used it, but maybe it could fit your needs.
| |
19:34 | <vagrantc> alkisg: i was about to suggest you could have used "git dch" to edit the changelog and it would credit the appropriate people for the appropriate lines... but then i forgot we're not really using git yet :)
| |
19:34 | lbssousa: that's the fedora system?
| |
19:35 | <alkisg> https://www.transifex.com/
| |
19:35 | <lbssousa> http://docs.transifex.com/integrations/github/
| |
19:36 | <vagrantc> transifex appears to not be free

19:36 | <vagrantc> of cost, let alone free software
| |
19:37 | oh, free (of cost) for open-source projects
| |
19:37 | <alkisg> I think it's free software with some extras that cost $$

19:58 | <lbssousa> alkisg, I've made a cleanup in my merge requests. Now I'm keeping only the ones I need the most (not that they can be merged now, but I'll leave then active so I won't forget them). The other ones I'll re-submit in a second moment.

22:47 | <staffencasa> sorry to ask a possibly easy question, but I just installed a fresh copy of ltsp on an Ubuntu 15.04 box with two nics and my clients don't get past the tftp aspect of the boot. It appears DHCP is working and the tftp service seems to be running. Any ideas? anyone?
| |
22:59 | <maldridge> firewall?
| |
23:01 | <staffencasa> I don't think so, it's pulling dhcp from the same box and that's working
| |
23:03 | <maldridge> dunno then, its possible that there is some other issue
| |
23:05 | <staffencasa> i was thinking it may be with the dual nic setup
| |
23:11 | <maldridge> that's pretty common
