Well, I'm going to spend some time, see if I can get the /dev/null patch I worked up last week for ldm-trunk going for ldm in hardy. I'll spend today testing it here live.
09:36
<wpgmb>
sbalneav: 'member my struggle with not being able to get into the server on the dhcp side from an outside system? Got it sorted: it had nothing to do with any configs in the server: I add a temp static route in my system to the host, et voila! - solved.
09:39
<ogra>
sbalneav, bug and debdiff or patch please :)
09:39
i'll care for the paperwork ... though dont expect it to enter hardy before intrepid final, everyone is in pre release stress atm
09:40

09:40

u know what's really needed... a moodle content repo...
12:18
there was a summer of google code project that links moodle to drupal... and edubuntu.org uses drupal, so it might be a good way of adding course content

moodle really should merge with a proper framework of some sort
12:57
<Nubae>
they started moodle way before frameworks existed
12:57
<sbalneav>
Adrian's turning into a NIH type, so he's registering his own domain (so he tells me in a private email) and is going to "attract people to submit content". I'll send him the moodle link, and suggest he just start by organizing that.
12:57

In other words, rather than be simply a contributor to an existing project, he wants to start over doing his own thing. Right,
12:59
you hit the nail on the head.
12:59
<johnny>
sounds like a big FAIL
12:59
<Nubae>
indeed
12:59
<jammcq>
most people don't realize how hard it is to actually keep a project going
12:59
everybody can start one

13:00
<Nubae>
its easier if there is a community I suppose
13:00
<sbalneav>
His first emails revolved around him giving us His Grand Vision (r)(tm)(c), and having "us" (whoever that was) doing all the implementing.

Hi, I'm using LTSP 5 on Debian Lenny, with the official packages; I'm having trouble getting automatic logins to work. I've set up accounts on the server, and put stanzas with LDM_USERNAME and LDM_PASSWORD in /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/lts.conf but I'm still getting the standard greeter when ldm boots up.

Ah, that wasn't mentioned in the edubuntu handbook I was reading ;)

14:04
<PerfDave>
Hmm, still not working - can I read ldm's logs somewhere?
14:04
<johnny>
yes.. on the client
14:04
/var/log/ldm.log
14:07
<PerfDave>
That just tells me "Spawning Xorg", "Launching greeter", "In get_userid"

The MAC address in /etc/lts.conf definitely matches, and I can ssh as the specified user with the specified password into the server.

OK, thanks for all the help earlier - I've got two clients up with guest logins enabled, which is good enough for now. There's more I want to do but it can wait ;)

Is there anyway to install the (ubuntu intrepid) chroot image to a client hard disk, to be easier for troubleshooting?

since ubuntu gets the tftp in the initramfs, can't you choose a different nfsroot,nbd image on the server?
16:56
i mean.. shouldn't it be possible?
16:57
per client that is

johnny: i guess it would be possible, if you re-coded things.

<johnny>
i wonder if anybody would want that
17:00
<vagrantc>
would definitely be useful to have both thin-clients and diskless workstations on the same server.

vagrantc: any idea why ldm thinks me server is called None?
22:21
vagrantc: failing that, how do I checkout a revision with bzr? I want to go back in time, but I don't want to lose my current commits, and I don't want to wait 10 minutes to get it from launchpad again.
22:23
<stgraber>
bzr pull /home/..../ldm-trunk -r 123 ldm-trunk-r123

Ryan52: you got it at least partially figured out?
23:10
<Ryan52>
vagrantc: I think. but in the process of making ldminfo.c shared between the two I broke it (in a seemingly unrelated way...), so I can't test the actual code part. -_-
23:10
<vagrantc>
oh
23:12
well, sure beats me pounding my head on this stuff :)
23:12
<Ryan52>
how do I undo a commit (or 4 :))?
23:12
<vagrantc>
bzr uncommit
23:12
<Ryan52>
wow. that's amazing. that actually makes sense. ;)
23:12
<vagrantc>
and then i usually bzr shelve them away for safe keeping.
23:13
bzr uncommit -r X will uncommit up to revision X
23:13
apart from a few quirks, bzr generally makes a fair amount of sense.
23:21
<Ryan52>
vagrantc: did you test your patch?
23:21
<vagrantc>
Ryan52: which patch?
23:21
<Ryan52>
the part that I am working off of :)
23:22
<vagrantc>
i tested that it didn't break anything
23:31
<Ryan52>
oh, the problem the entire time was in my testing proceedure, I guess.
23:31
I think.
