<nrdb>
I have googled for this... but I can't find an answer... I have a terminal is dual head (with one monitor) ... it appears the ltsp is spreading the login over both 'heads' ... this means the login is not centered on the one monitor it has.. can I tell the ltps to use only the one monitor, or turn off the other one.
02:00
could I use an X_OPTION_0 somehow to say turn this display off?
02:43
I have found that using ... X_MONITOR_OPTION_01 = "\"ignore\" \"true\"" ... turns off both displays ... is there anyway to get this just to be applied to one monitor?
02:59
how can the filesystem not have a xorg.conf file anywhere?

nrdb: I tell LTSP to use both monitors, showing the login box twice
05:20
X_VIRTUAL = "3840 1920"
05:20
XRANDR_OUTPUT_01 = "VGA-0 --auto"
05:20
XRANDR_OUTPUT_02 = "DVI-0 --auto --left-of VGA-0"
05:21
xrandr can also turn monitors off if that's what you want
05:22
'VGA-0 --off'

What you use as default pdf viewer? Looks like there's a need for some extended features which aren't available in Evince.
07:33* gehidore uses mupdf
07:34
<gehidore>
I suspect that's the opposite direction you're after though
07:49
<muppis>
Not really. I'm all open to solutions if I can get things work.
07:49
Just made open in Chromium runned as local app.
07:53
Well, mupdf doesn't fulfill needs.

<lauri>
Hi, I am having UI glithces on Ubuntu 14.04 LTSP
10:45
It's x86 terminals with variety of hardware
10:46
Chromium draws the webpages with glithces
10:46
I am using thin clients
10:46
with LDM_DIRECTX
10:46
Is there anything I could tweak?

looking for a simple chat client for LAN chat with students
12:57
preferably with a way to limit based on ip add
12:58
so they chat to the teachers only
13:03
<maldridge>
nahoskins: IRC?
13:07
<nahoskins>
hey again
13:07
im using empathy at the moment
13:07
i was thinking of using irc
13:07
was hoping another teacher had come up with a simple apt-get away solutions
13:10
<maldridge>
well there's plenty of simple web based ones, but I'm pretty sure that most on-disk ones will require configuration of some kind
13:35
nahoskins: depending on your students you could use talkd
13:37
<nahoskins>
need names so i can use epoptes to remote in and assist
13:38
also will need microphone support...
13:38
would be better if it had webcam too!
13:38
<maldridge>
talkd takes the username of the user, irc would take the username
13:38
oh, now you're getting fancy, not sure what the best way to do that is
13:40
<nahoskins>
yeah
13:40
aim is to have them working on python notebooks
13:40
and as the more experienced kids level up
13:40
i promote them to "Tutor" accounts
13:40
with access to more tools/priviledges
13:41
so they can help/troubleshoot the others
13:45
my RAID server is pretty much set up, (im sure you remember that headache)
13:46
and I've managed to scrounge 20 half decent machines (2-4GB RAM)
13:46
only thing really killing it is the switch, need to upgrade that, got CAT 6 cables

cheers will do
14:00
wont be running codetuna till next spring i dont think
14:01
in last week of 6, looking forward to a break
14:01
will be writing a post on how various tech allows me to run camp
14:01
you'll probably get a mention on twitter when it goes up
14:02
camp wouldnt have worked without all the help from you and everyone else in this channel
14:02
<maldridge>
ha, I'm just glad everything has worked. It sounds like you've had a rough time with some of it
14:02
<nahoskins>
meh, nothing we couldnt handle!
14:02
once it was set up, it worked a treat all summer
14:02
now i just need to finesse the small details
14:03
and next summer ill have a lean mean learning machine
14:03
<maldridge>
document!
14:03
<nahoskins>
got a 7 year old handling arrays with for loops and double nested ifs in python
14:03
;)
14:03
success!
14:04
<maldridge>
that is indeed a feat, there are plenty of students at my university that seem to struggle with that for far longer than they should

had a 12 year old make a joke machine in 17 lines of python without any kind of prompting
15:20
very cool
15:20
its amazing what these kids are capable of
15:20
after three weeks of 4-5 hours of coding a day
15:21
nice plus side: I've gotten EXCEPTIONALLY good at identifying errors in my own code
15:22
now i have 45 minutes to trouble shoot an issue with minecraft mods, if i dont get that done i will be crucified. Must keep the reward schema in good stead.
15:27
<maldridge>
ha, mods are a pain, good luck

Cheers everyone. Just set up debian with ltsp; trying to connect with berryterminal; when I log in, I get a screen that shows this "Oh no! something has gone wrong" message; any advice?
21:22
ah forgot: client is berryterminal operated on raspberrypi2
21:22
<maldridge>
gnimi: do you have installed a gui?
21:23
<gnimi>
yeah the standard debian gui
21:23
<maldridge>
(installed in the chroot)
21:23
so gnome3
21:23
<gnimi>
I guess... haven't been using linux in a while
21:24
I installed the latest stable debian release (amd64 version)
21:24
And just used the preselected settings in the graphical installer, which was that "debian ui" or something
21:25
<maldridge>
hrm, I'm not particularly familiar with that error (haven't used gnome in a while) but generally it means that gnome couldn't start for various gfx issues
21:25
<gnimi>
yeah, sounded like that... at least that's what google gave me
21:25
<maldridge>
you might need to install something lighter, the pi can only do so much
21:25
<gnimi>
But that should be client side only, right? since all of the graphics should be handled on the client for ltsp, right?
21:25
Ah, yeah... good idea, maybe that's it
21:26
<maldridge>
well, the drawing should happen client side, but the program runs server side
21:27
<gnimi>
yep, then I understood it correctly
21:27
thanks so far. I will have a look whether there is a better suited ui for the raspi
21:27
regards from our makerspace here in Germany :-)
21:29
<maldridge>
cool, you should add a pin to the pinboard when you get your install up
21:31
<gnimi>
Sure, will do. :-)
21:37
turns out you were right
21:38
When i select in the client under the sessions menu: failsafe xterm
21:38
then it works
21:39
but whenever I select gnome or gnome classic, it stops with that oh no error message
21:43
<maldridge>
huh, gnome likes to really have high levels of hardware acceleration. You might look into lxde or xfce4, they are low overhead
