<lunz>
alkisg: hi, I'm testing out ltsp-pnp as an alternative to legacy ltsp on a xubuntu server in virtualbox, on your advice from a few days ago, but I'm getting pxe-t02 errors when trying to connect a client. I'm not sure whether it's a config problem or whether I'm using wrong virtualbox connections (ie, NAT)
08:28
<alkisg>
Hi lunz, I'm working on multiseat support currently so I won't have much time for community support for the next weeks...
08:28
Ask in the channel, someone else might be available
08:31
<lunz>
alkisg: sure, putting it out there for anyone. btw, how is multiseat computing different from terminal services like ltsp, if you dont mind me asking?
08:31
<alkisg>
Multiseat is having 2 seats per computer (2 graphics cards etc)
08:31
So if one uses multiseat AND LTSP, he'll be able to have 12 seats with 6 computers
08:33
<lunz>
anyone knows how to resolve pxe-t02 client errors in virtualbox (for starters; planning on doing a physical implementation sometime later today)?
08:36
i'm seeing online advice regarding pxe-t02 about editing the img path in dhcpd.conf correctly but that doesn't help in my case
08:39
alkisg: so you're saying basically more terminals can be extended, as resources allow, from each computer in an ltsp network?
08:41
<alkisg>
Yes, it allows one computer with N graphics cards and N monitors and N mice and N keyboards, to serve N users
08:41
Usually N=2
08:41
I.e. 2 monitors/graphics cards/mice/keyboards per one pc,
08:41
thus serving 2 users from one pc
08:47
<lunz>
alkisg: which brings me to a question I've been wondering about: in a regular ltsp setup, can there be multiplayer support among terminals? or is this a situation that multiseating is addressing?
08:47
<alkisg>
multiseat currently is not supported in ltsp
08:47
That's what I'm looking to implement
08:48
<lunz>
alkisg: ok, so essentially multiseat = multiplayer?
08:49
<alkisg>
For me, multiplayer means online gaming with many players
08:49
So that's completely unrelated to LTSP, multiseat etc
08:49
I don't know what multiplayer means for you
08:52
<lunz>
alkisg: I was thinking "multiplayer" in terms of shared interaction from individual users at their own terminals; yes, I appropriated the sense from gaming
08:52
but more widely applied
08:53
<alkisg>
lunz: multiseat means having 1 computer tower, and 2 monitors/keyboard/mice, and users thinking that this is 2 different computers
08:53
What they do with those 2 different computers is unrelated
08:53
They can run games or libreoffice etc
08:53
So multiseat isn't about interaction, no
08:54
But of course LTSP and multiseat users can interact
08:54
There's a wikipedia page about multiseat if you want to read it
08:54
<lunz>
alkisg: i see; i have a LOT to learn about ltsp capabilities; yes, i pulled up the wikipedia article
09:01
so anyone out there who can resolve pxe-t02 client errors in virtualbox, to begin with?

I'm trying to set up an LTSP FAT client
17:24
and all instructions are either incomplete or simply don't work
17:25
are LTSP FAT clients actually a thing or just a pipe dream?
17:28
also, all the instructions say "export /home as rw" which is about the worst thing one could possibly do
17:49
<||cw>
pretty sure with ltsp5 it's automatic, and uses sshfs
17:50
maybe that require ltsp-pnp though
17:50
which is likely what you want anyway, it uses sshfs for the homes
17:57
<Leolo_2>
ltsp-pnp is ubuntu-only
17:57
I'm setting this up on CentOS 6

aka "patches welcome"
19:39
<alkisg>
Leolo_2: ltsp-pnp should be much easier to port to centos than the old fat clients implementation
19:40
It shouldn't require more than a couple of days
19:40
Also, is surely isn't a pipe dream, there are thousands of fat client installations out there

wait... ubuntu doesn't install ssh???!
21:05
<alkisg>
it's preinstalled
21:07
<Leolo_2>
I just install ubuntu, and had to do apt install ssh
21:07
<alkisg>
which cd did you use to install ubuntu?
21:08
the server edition/
21:08
?
21:08
<Leolo_2>
ubuntu-16.04-desktop-amd64.iso
21:08
<alkisg>
ssh is preinstalled
21:08
do you mean openssh-server?
21:08
the server isn't preinstalled, while the client is
21:09
<Leolo_2>
yes, I did
21:09
<alkisg>
if you actually did what you said and saw what you said you saw, then your installation was broken
21:10
did you see any failure messages while you were installing it?
21:10
<Leolo_2>
yes
21:10
but nothing related to sshd
21:10
only stuff about "overlay scroll bar module" or something
21:10
<alkisg>
don't confuse ssh with sshd
21:11
we're talking about ssh client, right?
21:11
<Leolo_2>
no
21:11
we are talking about sshd server
21:11
<alkisg>
see above ;)
21:11
<Leolo_2>
sorry for the confusion. ssh is 2-way for me. getting in and getting out
21:12
<alkisg>
that's why i specifically asked if we were talking about openssh-server or not, 2 minutes ago ;)
21:12
so yup openssh-server isn't preinstalled
21:12
it gets installed along with ltsp-server
