Moving ltsp.github.io to ltsp.org; don't worry if you can't access them for a while
13:54
<georgene_>
I JUST came here to ask where it went :D
13:55
<alkisg>
It was just gone for 5 minutes! :D
13:56
Ouch the web page needs to be re-published with the new url. Oh well, no noon nap :D
13:56
<georgene_>
I know! what a coincidence haha
13:56
grep grep grep
13:56
<alkisg>
Fun :D
13:57
<georgene_>
hugo is quite nice if you have not looked into it yet
13:57
I built this documentation site using hugo>> https://docs.dialing.se/
13:58
you can navigate with keyboard as well
13:59
<alkisg>
I haven't; but I need something that renders .md man pages nicely
13:59
As all the ltsp.org/man folder is just cloned from upstream man pages
14:00kjackal has left IRC (kjackal!~quassel@66-180-252-71.static-ip.telepacific.net, Remote host closed the connection)
14:02
<georgene_>
hugo is perfect then as it works just with md formats
14:03
and if you want to throw a "backend" to your hugo site, you can use forestry.io, the free plan is all you need really
14:03
but im still undecided about the world of SSGs as there are new ones popping up all the time, hugo seems to have a good following and I've built a few sites with it already
14:04
it can generate 5000 pages in like 7 seconds...
14:04
<alkisg>
The idea is that I do *not* do web development :)
14:04
If someone wants to, they can do it for ltsp
14:05
So, I didn't have to install jekyll in my pc or anything
14:05
I just write .md, push, and github does the rest
14:05
If hugo can do the same, without me signing up to other servers or installing apps in my pc, great
14:05
<georgene_>
what are you currently using on ltsp.org?
14:06
<alkisg>
jekyll
14:06
<georgene_>
how are you rendering that?
14:06
ah okay
14:06
<alkisg>
It should be working now: https://ltsp.org/
14:06
<georgene_>
I mean, it's good enough, I think its nice and clean
14:06
yes its working

Hi all :)

<alkisg>
Hi Batmoine
14:07
<georgene_>
helloo
14:07
<alkisg>
georgene_: Not sure what to do with the previous URLs though... is www.ltsp.org a cname to ltsp.org now?
14:07
<georgene_>
yes
14:07
<alkisg>
OK because the github instructions were mentioning "cname to ltsp.github.io"
14:07
<Batmoine>
I'm having a little trouble in a classroom, all PCs start well on Linux, but none of them have access to the Internet
14:07
<alkisg>
...which doesn't really exist... yet that technique worked for epoptes.org. Meh
14:08
Batmoine: are you using ltsp? Which distro/version?
14:08
<georgene_>
no, its working fine, no errors
14:08
<alkisg>
georgene_: www.ltsp.org isn't working for me
14:08
Neither with http nor https
14:08
<Batmoine>
Ubuntu server 18, and the latest version of ltsp
14:08
<georgene_>
for me, it goes straight to https://ltsp.org/
14:09
<Batmoine>
Ubuntu desktop, sorry
14:09
<alkisg>
Batmoine: I'm going to guess you're using the old ltsp5, and not the new ltsp19, right?
14:10
<Batmoine>
no, it's good ltsp 19
14:10
not the 5
14:10
<georgene_>
single or double NIC?
14:10
<alkisg>
2 nic setup?
14:10
<Batmoine>
Single
14:10
and Chrootless
14:10
Based on : https://github.com/ltsp/ltsp/wiki
14:10
<alkisg>
Can I see with vnc?

14:10
<Batmoine>
yes of course :)
14:18
<alkisg>
Batmoine: you had both ltsp19 and ltsp5 installed,
14:18
but you didn't delete the old dnsmasq file,so clients booted with ltsp5
14:18

ok
14:25
error, nothing more boot, more pxe :-/
14:26
ah, that's coming back
14:26
ok, it finds the PXE, but then: boot failure
14:26
<alkisg>
I'll need you to either upload a photo, or me to install virtualbox
14:27
Ah the server is a VM
14:27
Can't run vbox there
14:27
So ok upload a photo with your phone
14:27
<georgene_>
have you run 'ltsp dnsmasq'
14:27
<Batmoine>
yes
14:28
<georgene_>
can you verify that you're exporting the correct paths?
14:28
<Batmoine>
or do you want me to send the photo?
14:28
<alkisg>
Yes upload a photo while I update things
14:29
<Batmoine>
I send you the photo where?
14:29
<alkisg>
imgur.com or similar site
14:29
Reboot a client NOW though
14:29
after the updates that I did
14:30
<Batmoine>
Same error
14:31

14:31
<alkisg>
Batmoine: ok, now reboot again
14:32
<Batmoine>
same :)
14:34
<alkisg>
Batmoine: can you reboot and upload another photo now?
14:34
As now it won't be using undionly.kpxe, but ipxe.pxe
14:35
<Batmoine>
no pb
14:35
<alkisg>
Also, do you have another type of client, to try with that?
14:35
I think it's a problem with ipxe not supporting this client well
14:35
<Batmoine>
it started up before
14:36
<alkisg>
For example, I've seen clients that need this: unplug power, press power button for the capacitors to discharge, then plug power, then press power button again
14:37
<Batmoine>
ok
14:37
https://www.noelshack.com/2019-47-4-1574347039-img-20191121-153457.jpg
14:37
Same
14:39
I think I'm going to force the mayor to invest in hard drives ... :)
14:39
<alkisg>
Hehe
14:39
Do you have another type of client to test with?
14:40
<Batmoine>
unfortunately no, there are 17 machines, they are all identical
14:40
<alkisg>
Can you do the power test that I said? Unlpug power, push power button etc?
14:40
<Batmoine>
yes, but same error
14:41
I have to leave, thank you very much for your help anyway
14:41
<alkisg>
ok
14:41

Hi alkisg , a somehow irrelevant question
14:46
I ve seen here you talking about usign pelican static generator for hosting the new documentation, and now it's Jekyll...
14:46
any reason for this decision ?
14:47
(just curious)
14:48
<alkisg>
alexxtasi[m]: what is pelican?
14:48
I've never heard of it, maybe you remember something else?
14:49
<alexxtasi[m]>
a forgive me ... it was MkDocs
14:49
<alkisg>
Ah, I see it's a static generator in python... github doesn't support python
14:49
mkdocs yeah, but I'd need to run it locally and publish the result
14:49
While now I'm able to go online, edit .md files, and have the site updated, without access to my own pc to compile things
14:50
(so if others want to help with the site, it'll be much easier for them)
14:52

ok, I have a strange problem
19:44
I'm running LTSP 5.4 on CentOS 6. I have a user with a fat client and a different user with a thin client

they are both opening an xterm with -fa Consolas-26. the fonts are different sizes

20:28
I'll have to try out remote vs local apps
20:29
question - given that xfs is no longer a thing, font rendering happens in X.org?
20:30
because the only thing I can think of is that "Consolas-26" being a truetype font, the rendering is being done differently in fat vs thin
20:30
but even then, that makes no sense
