<dgroos>
Hi
12:22
Trying to troubleshoot login problem w/clients
12:24
I finally got AD binding working on my classroom ltsp-pnp server so I can ssh into a user account on the districts ldap server and a new account w/home directory is create.
12:24
that took several hours!
12:25
In the process, I can no longer log into the fat clients! I can't even log in as my regular admin (local) user.
12:26
So, the clients continue to boot fine, I've got internet access on the server, but... no login on clients.
12:27
Would anyone describe/list how to go about troubleshooting this? Thanks!

If the user accounts all exist locally on the client, there's no need for ltsp to re-create them by fetching them from the server, so you need to apply that patch
13:29
Although, login should still be working and you should be having other issues... anyway, apply it first...

dgroos: I am using a 2-NIC setup
16:06
dgroos: you mean this?

!nat
16:06
<ltsp>
nat: To set up NAT in your LTSP server, set its internal IP to 192.168.67.1 and put http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ts.sch.gr/sch-scripts/trunk/view/head:/debian/sch-scripts.if-up to /etc/network/if-up.d/sch-scripts. This also takes care of flow-control issues, possibly increasing your network speed 10 times. :)
16:06

oops, didn't work!
16:06
thanks ltsp!
16:06

is its X86-64_EFI or one of the other ones
16:39
like Intel_Lean_Client
16:39
<vagrantc>
depends on what you're trying to do
16:40
if you bump up the logging on dnsmasq you can check the logs for what strings it sends, i think

slog1235: you don't need ipxe if your client has uefi netboot support, you only need grub+net.efi in tftp
18:24
Unfortunately last time I checked, syslinux.efi wasn't good enough, so grub was the one that worked best
18:24
ipxe.efi works in you put it locally on some media, but it's not as good as the real firmware

also, my nat is half working, but dns is not working on my fat clients
18:34
do you have to have DNS_SERVER in lts.conf for it to work?

<alkisg>
bennabiy: the DNS servers on the client come from DHCP, or lts.conf, or the server itself is used if it does have a dns server running
19:53
bennabiy: but if you're using IPAPPEND 3, then the DHCP ones are not available to the client, so you only have the other 2 options
19:55
<bennabiy>

19:56

21:04
<vagrantc>
at some point in the increasingly near future i'll have to fix that
21:05
not the pi2
21:05* vagrantc is working on getting debian running on an arm chromebook

do you know how to set up a build environment for the pi2 on x86?

bennabiy_: not pi specifically, but i do all sorts of crossbuilding for armhf/armel/arm64 on debian
21:08
<bennabiy_>
pi2 is armhf right?
21:09
<vagrantc>
yeah, it can do armhf
21:09
most images use raspbian which is armhf for armv6 (vs. armv7 of most distributions)
21:10
<bennabiy_>
pi2 is v7?
21:10
or pi3?
21:10* bennabiy_ = arm noob
21:10

pi2 can run debian armhf, so is v7 capable.
21:11
<bennabiy_>
that is what I thought
21:11
how do you crossbuild?
21:12
<vagrantc>
i mostly build packages, and recent versions of sbuild and the debian toolchain essentially support it out of the box (or nearly so) for some packages, such as linux and u-boot.
21:13
<bennabiy_>
I need to try to build some packages, but might need to build a kernel as well

I got directed to a patch for a bug on launchpad and that was good.
23:07
The 'bug description' on the page notes: "Alkisg provided a fix on my instance of LTSP (by editing the X01-localapps file)"
23:08
When I download the .patch file I see every line starting with a + or a -. I figure those were the added/removed lines.
23:10
I guessed that one 'applies' a patch by... deleting lines in the filesystem version of the file that had -'s next to them and pasting in the lines with the +'s next to them.
23:10
right, I don't know how this works.
23:11
I don't think I just replace the filesystem version of the file with the .patch file--that doesn't seem correct.
23:15
<vagrantc>
there's a program called patch that does most of the work for you :)
23:15
