11:38 | <alkisg> Does anyone know which use cases $RDP_SOUND covers?
| |
11:38 | Since rdesktop is running as a localapp, why would it ever need padsp?
| |
11:38 | And, why would someone use pasuspender (=let LTSP load pulseaudio and then suspend it) instead of using SOUND=False (=no pulseaudio at all)?
| |
11:40 | * alkisg has made an xfreerdp script and tries to see if he needs to support RDP_SOUND in that too
11:40 | <alkisg> http://paste.ubuntu.com/633167/
| |
11:41 | Also, why is RDP_OPTIONS there? In which case SCREEN_07="rdesktop params" isn't enough?
| |
11:42 | And finally, why is rdesktop.sh needed, since ltsp/xinitrc can respawn the rdesktop process itself?

| |
12:27 | <alkisg> vagrantc: nope, it's contained on that package
| |
12:28 | <vagrantc> alkisg: ah, got it
| |
12:28 | alkisg: wouldn't it be feasible to use the same script for both?
| |
12:28 | screen.d script, that is
| |
12:28 | last time i tried it, it worked with simply replacing which binary was called
| |
12:29 | <alkisg> Sure. But I wonder why it screen.d/rdesktop needs to be so complicated...
| |
12:29 | <vagrantc> there may be some commandline incompatibilities, but the defaults at least worked
| |
12:29 | alkisg: agreed.
| |
12:29 | <alkisg> I think mgariepy needed the rdesktop.sh separation, and I thought maybe someone from revolution linux would also know why
| |
12:29 | <vagrantc> the rdesktop.sh bit is broken in debian stable :(
| |
12:29 | <alkisg> I can't see the reason for it
| |
12:30 | <vagrantc> alkisg: commit 1760 has *some* explanation

12:32 | <alkisg> Hmm about pasuspender... I don't see why that is needed too :D
| |
12:32 | Nick change: Parker955 -> Parker955_Away
12:33 | <alkisg> Pulseaudio should be able to mix local alsa (works fine here), and if someone doesn't want pulse, he can set SOUND=False
| |
12:34 | <vagrantc> might also be differences in versions?
| |
12:34 | i.e. bugs since fixed
| |
12:35 | <alkisg> Could be, I think there were some pulseaudio bugs previously that would cause trouble with SCREEN_07=ldm AND at the same time SCREEN_08=rdesktop
| |
12:35 | But they're fixed even in my lucid, and that's a very rare use case anyway (otherwise SOUND=False would work find for just rdesktop)
| |
12:36 | *fine
| |
12:38 | So I'm thinking of commiting that super-simple xfreerdp script, and wait to see in the future if someone still needs pasuspender/padsp... if not, we can then merge those 2 scripts
| |
12:39 | (of course I'll wait to hear from Gadi and mgariepy first)

16:19 | <dgroos> It was designed to be run on the server, but alkisg made an alteration in a version to make it work on a thin client. So, I run it on a thin client to control other thin clients. It's quick and works well except for the fact that if a student shuts down the thin client I have to restart sch-scripts to recapture this client.

16:19 | I'm interested to see how it works with Fat Clients next year.
