<alkisg>
cyberorg: here? about https://bugs.launchpad.net/epoptes/+bug/1501747, can't we just test for " /usr/share/locale/de/LC_MESSAGES/tigervnc.mo" ?
08:14
<cyberorg>
alkisg, hi, yes, bit ugly though
08:15
<alkisg>
We don't have any alternative though, other than breaking tightvnc on debian
08:15
So until all the vnc viewers manage to have a consistent command line, or fix their names in their packages, that's all we can do...
08:16
<cyberorg>
as mentioned, there is no other vncviewer available so last patch is cleaner
08:17
ok, i can send you new patch that checks for .mo
08:17
<alkisg>
cyberorg: the last patch breaks debian, I can't accept it
08:17
Thanks!
08:20
cyberorg: it's also OK for me if you test for any file that exists only on centos/rhel etc
08:20
E.g. "if [ -f /etc/fedora ] ..."
08:20
Like /etc/debian_version for debian derivatives
08:22
<cyberorg>
we got rid of etc/SUSE-release, now there is only /etc/os-release, other distros would also probably follow that
08:23
we don't have /etc/*version
08:24
<alkisg>
Any file... e.g. /usr/share/suse-something, not only in /etc

08:35

for debian package you can probably get package maintainer to add tigervnc deps?

08:46
I don't understand what deps you're talking about...
08:46
http://packages.debian.org/tigervnc
08:47
==> not there
08:47
https://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=vnc ==> all packages that relate to vnc
08:48
<cyberorg>
oh ok, then lets just go with .mo file check otherwise it becomes too many "if" tests for rpm distros
08:49
<alkisg>
Cool, please do send a patch for that
08:49

Hi, work at a school, and we have HP Multiseat MS6200 with t100 thin clients with Windows Multipoint Server 2011. The support has ended for these, and I'm researching if there's a Linux solution to keep using the hardware.
12:16
Can LTSP be used on HP Multiseat & thin clients (connected with USB)?

Or a multiseat setup (not sure about the terminology :))
12:29
And the Linux-flavoured option for them would be Userful

LTSP does both thin and fat client setup, but I don't know how it works with your HPs

hi everyone, I have an I3 with 8GB ram, 128GB sdd! I'd like to install a thin client server on that and have 4 thin clients for family members at home! I'll use ltsp and the clients won't have hdd's, must dvds for writing/reading. has anyone experience with performance on the server side? is this a viable option to run office applications, videop playback up to 720p, web browsers! no resource hungy games or videoediting, just some old school
12:50
16bit console emulation like snes
12:59
<alkisg>
kostas_: what are your client specs?
13:02
<kostas_>
pentium 4's with 1GB Ram and 256MB Graphic cards
13:02
I might find newer machines but thats the minimum I'll get
13:03
<alkisg>
it's probably better to run them as diskless ltsp fat clients
13:03
!ltsp-pnp
13:03
<ltsp>
ltsp-pnp: ltsp-pnp is an alternative (upstream) method to maintain LTSP installations for thin and fat clients that doesn't involve chroots: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/ltsp-pnp
13:04

13:06
<alkisg>
!flash
13:06
<ltsp>
flash: Yes, flash sucks. An HD full screen 30 fps video needs 2.5 Gbps bandwidth (1920×1080×4×30)! Make sure you have LDM_DIRECTX=True in your lts.conf file, or if it's just youtube you're after, try some flash replacing plugin like http://linterna-magica.nongnu.org
13:06
<alkisg>
thin clients need gbps of bandwidth
13:06
fat clients need 1 mbps or so for vlc
13:06
pentium 4's are good enough for vlc, they may have problem with fullscreen youtube
13:07
But thin clients can't cope with fullscreen youtube either

In schools we only run some ancient pentium 4's as thin clients
13:08
P4 @ 1.7 GHz etc
13:08
Newer pentium 4's, at 3 GHz etc, are always run as fat clients
13:08
Also I assume that your clients don't have gigabit networking, right?

13:09

Hmm that's a plus for running them as thin clients
13:09
Do you remember the GHz of their CPUs?
13:09
<kostas_>
humble 1,7
13:10
<alkisg>
(and I assume you also have a gigabit switch then, right?)
13:10
<kostas_>
yes, of course
13:10
<alkisg>
OK, if they're 1.7 then follow the ltsp-pnp page and then put LTSP_FATCLIENT=False in lts.conf
13:10
So that you run them as thin clients
13:10
And if you don't like it, remove LTSP_FATCLIENT=False and they're thin again
13:10
*fat again

13:12
They're similar to your P4's
13:12
They make ok thin clients, but not good fat clients
13:12
Good fat clients need at least 1000-1500 score in cpubenchmark.net

with one client is 990MB/s from the client and 330 from the server (is in boud, so strange isn't it?)

thought was fixed with kernel 4.2

but seems not, when in high load :(

Let's update epoptes any way
15:57
<markit>
but I've tons of kde packates needing update, you have to do only for epoptes

in other tabs of terminal you are sudo
15:59
<alkisg>
ok, but now you need to restart the clients and the epoptes gui
15:59

Then do a network benchmark and let's see the results together

and no client disconnected

yes, the problem is with the realtek nic
16:09
does not work anymore since kernel whatIcantremember

seems to be a known kernel bug with realtek

btw. I have to start a respberry programming class in 15 minutes time

I'll try to buy a Intel nic, like eth2 is
