<vmlintu>
alkisg: do you still see this capslock bug with multiseat? https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/300974 I remember hitting that when trying to get multiseat working in various configurations. I was running separate X servers for each seat.
08:24
I you hit capslock on one keyboard, it changed it on all keyboards..
08:34
<alkisg>
vmlintu: I'm using separate xorg servers, i.e. proper multiseat, not xephyr based
08:34
I don't see that bug, I just checked pressing capslock
08:35
Were you using a master xorg server?
08:36
<vmlintu>
I was using separate Xorg servers for each seat, no xephyr. I did use xephyr first, but then we got different hardware that we could use with separate Xorg servers.
08:36
What do you mean with master xorg server?
08:36
<alkisg>
OK, so same setup. No, I don't see that now.
08:36
<vmlintu>
Good to know that it's fixed
08:36
<alkisg>
There's an option to run one master xorg server on a single graphics card, and two xephyr based servers
08:36
one for each gpu
08:36
<vmlintu>
We didn't notice it until a user told us after a few weeks of use
08:36
<alkisg>
But OK you didn't use that
08:37
I think it should be possible to bypass it even with xephyr, with appropriate xorg options
08:37
<vmlintu>
But this was maybe five years ago or so..
08:37
<alkisg>
Have you been using multiseat ever since?
08:38
I'm seeing some GPU instability, not sure if it's because my ati graphics cards are old...
08:39
<vmlintu>
no.. sourcing proper hardware was bit of a pain too back then..
08:39
<alkisg>
At least now motherboards that support both onboard and pci-e are easy to find, e.g. all sandy bridge and newer
08:39
<vmlintu>
It was for kiosk type of use and had to be within certain size limits to fit in the casing..
08:41
I should do some testing with newer hardware some day
08:42
<alkisg>
# ls -lha /var/log/syslog
08:42
-rw-r----- 1 syslog adm 1,2M Ιούν 7 11:41 /var/log/syslog
08:42
1.2 mb of gpu errors... :)
08:42
<vmlintu>
Nowadays it just seems to be all laptops..
08:42
sounds nice..

<vlt>
Hello. I’m switching from Ubuntu (currently 12.04 LTS) to Debian 8. Everything seems to work fine out of the box on my test client (1280x1024). Now the first real user rebooted their client and got resolution problems. The screen is 1680x1050 but the X login screen (and the DE session) are 1440x1024. The max size I cat set with xrandr is 1440x900 (to leep aspect ratio).
10:57
Any idea what might be missing?

Does the Debian kernel in the client image need additional packages to work?

<alkisg>
Statler_: if your clients are good enough to run localapps, why don't you use ltsp fat clients instead?
16:11
!ltsp-pnp
16:11
<ltsp>
ltsp-pnp: ltsp-pnp is an alternative (upstream) method to maintain LTSP installations for thin and fat clients that doesn't involve chroots: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/ltsp-pnp
16:12
<alkisg>
vlt, sometimes old kernel or xorg versions make the clients unable to read the display edid properly. Compare your xorg.log from ubuntu vs debian, to see what is needed.
16:51
<Statler_>
alkisg, because I didnt know about the existence
16:51
thank you for the link. reading ...

<vlt>
alkisg: Thank you, I’ll check xorg.log. I used a different client for now and will examine the other one.
18:51
I hadn’t expected that a client that had no problems with Ubuntu 10.04 and 12.04 might get into trouble with kernel/xorg that is 6 years newer ;-)
18:52
<maldridge>
how does the pushpin map on the ltsp website work? Is there documentation on that I can be pointed too?
18:58
<alkisg>
vlt, which client card? lspci -nn -k | grep -A 2 VGA
18:58
maldridge: are you asking how to add an ltsp story, or how the ltsp map works in the background, with google map services etc?
19:01
<maldridge>
the second one, is it really just a google map?
19:01
<alkisg>
maldridge: no, the database is kept at ltsp.org
19:01
It's google map services, the map is provided by google, the pins+database by ltsp.org
19:02
Hyperbyte is the person to ask about it
19:02
<maldridge>
ok, thanks for the info
19:28
<quinox>
https://developers.google.com/maps/
19:30
you need a Google account and create a specific API key, but as long as you don't get a gazillion visitors it's free
19:30
fairly easy to use if you're used to JS APIs
19:31
you embed the map, wait for the "Im ready" event and add your pushpins
19:31
you can also let Google cluster them for you, then if they are too close together they get replaced by a (2) or (10) pin
19:39
<maldridge>
nice, I'll read up on it
