Hi All, first of all sorry for my english
01:44
i'v got question

<alkisg>
vicd: what problems?
02:54
<vicd>
my?
02:55
like this http://www.mail-archive.com/ltsp-discuss@lists.sourceforge.net/msg37462.html
02:57
<alkisg>
vicd: udhcpc had some problems with spaces in the variables
02:57
Unfortunately, the fixed got uploaded after the Karmic release
02:58
So now you have to use a PPA or something, to get the fixed udhcpc...
02:58
vicd: here's the corrected code: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ltsp-upstream/ltsp/ltsp-trunk/files/head%3A/client/initramfs/scripts/init-premount/
02:59
<vicd>
not all problems only mountall exit status 1
02:59
<alkisg>
Put that in the chroot, and run update-initramfs -u in the chroot and then ltsp-update-kernels outside of it
02:59
<vicd>
will it help?
02:59
<alkisg>
It will solve this: "The line I get is something like: /init: export line 15 <ip address of secondary dns server>: bad variable name "
03:00* alkisg continues reading on with the problem... :)
03:01
<alkisg>
* there's also the hostname script problem...
03:02
<vicd>
it is
03:02

You mean your nfs server?

i am not bettina
03:03
<alkisg>
OK I read "--Bettina"...
03:04
But you're having the same problem?
03:04
<vicd>
yes my nfs server on Suse
03:04
<alkisg>
And you're having the same problem with Bettina?
03:04
(exactly?)
03:04
<vicd>
i have only problem with hostname and mountall
03:05
on client side
03:06
<alkisg>
Hmmm it seems that something is broken with nfs & karmic then... if 2 people are having the same problems
03:06
<vicd>
i have found https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mountall/+bug/430348
03:07
<alkisg>
I'll have a look here locally, i.e. I'll try nfs on karmic. Will you be around, or come later on?
03:07
<vicd>
yes i will
03:07
<alkisg>

I am more under the impression that delays on right clicking for menus on some applications (ff, gimp) is not a bug but is caused by buffering, sometimes, too many submenus for more instantaneous behavior when loaded, is there an option to maybe disable/decrease this buffer? (if it exists)
04:38
<alkisg>
vicd: the problem happens *after* the ltsp initramfs finishes executing, and it seems to me that it's related to the upstart switching that happened in Karmic. Sorry, but I don't know upstart well enough to help there... :(
04:38
(I guess it has to do with the dependencies, i.e. ltsp-client-init should run before mountall, but I don't know how that should be done)
04:39
din_os: jaunty? it was fixed in karmic...
04:39
<din_os>
yup! hmm, any temp fix for me until I upgrade?

04:42
<alkisg>

ok, I'll have a look

NBD swap didn't just work either, but needed a lot less effort than local apps :D

we have firefox and icewm installed in the image so that works out of the box too, we should make it more challenging too

Jaunty had a bug I discovered, that would make it so that even enabling the router functionality in the DHCP server, and specifying in lts.conf that it should use it and the DNS servers, it still wouldn't use them.
08:04
If it was not for this channel, I wouldn't have figured out how to fix that.
08:04
Well, fix it correctly. using a proxy server seemed like a reasonable work around.

Sure
09:43
<Gadi>
ok, so if you look in /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/init.d/ltsp-client-setup
09:43
you will see a configure_fstab function
09:43
let me know when you see it
09:43
<alkisg>
I do see it. But,
09:44
<IHS_Volunteer>
why would a 366mhz Pentium2 handle decoding flash video better than a 600mhz Pentium 3, both with 128MB of RAM... Using localapps firefox.
09:44
<alkisg>
I tried putting an `echo "HELLO"` on top of this file, and I didn't see it when the client boots...
09:44
<Gadi>
try adding those 2 fstab lines staticly to /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/fstab
09:44

i cannot install plugins for firefox as localapp
10:01
and firefox runs in the right language except the "save file" dialog
10:01
(as localapp too, of course)
10:06
<alkisg>
Well if I run ltsp-client-setup manually, it does mount everything. But still it hangs on mountall or right after that...
10:06
Weird, the recovery shell that it says should be available with 'Esc' isn't...

alkisg: try commenting out the configure_fstab in ltsp-client-setup, and make sure /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/fstab has no entries
10:13
<alkisg>
Gadi: mountall is ran before ltsp-client-setup
10:13
So modifying ltsp-client-setup does no good...
10:14
(as it never runs)
10:14
<Gadi>
I thought you ran it manually
10:15
and THEN mountall hangs
10:15
<alkisg>
No no
10:15
I tried to run it manually to see if anything improves, but it didn't
10:15
"Normally", mountall runs, hangs, and ltsp-client-setup NEVER runs
10:16
<Gadi>
its interesting, bec mountall's man page says it tries to mount stuff from fstab
10:16
so, it shouldnt mount anything
10:17
<alkisg>
The line that hangs the client is this: exec mountall --daemon $force_fsck $fsck_fix $tmptime
10:17
If I put an echo right before that, it shows. After that, it doesn't...
10:18
<Gadi>
try adding a "-v" flag to the mountall line
10:20
<alkisg>
(while waiting for the client to reboot: shouldn't ltsp-client-setup be ran before mountall, so that it bind-mounts the files that should be writable?)
10:20
<Gadi>
it needs /tmp to be mounted first

it will be a bummer if the problem must be fixed locally for every user though
12:31
<dro>
go to system-->sound-->output tab--> and change the connector drop down at the bottom
12:31
<shawnp0wers>
I'll try real quick
12:32
<dro>
shawnp0wers: ok i'm going to grab a bite to eat but i'll be back in a few
12:33
<shawnp0wers>
dro: Only options are analog output, and headphone output -- changing makes no difference...
12:48
<Gadi>
shawnp0wers: PCM_VOLUME may be up to high - set PCM_VOLUME=70 in lts.conf
12:49
<Lns>
!g
12:49
<ltspbot`>
Lns: "g" is Gadi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
12:49* Gadi waves to Lns
12:49
<Gadi>
shawnp0wers: also, LDM_LIMIT_ONE_SESSION=True will make it so a user gets kicked if already on
12:50
<dro>
Gadi: is there a document somewhere that shows all the lts.conf options and a short description?
12:51
<shawnp0wers>
Gadi: Thanks! The sound issue is still there (I think it might be hardware related, I have an email into disklessworkstations) -- but the LDM_LIMIT is just what I was looking for. :)
12:52
<Gadi>
dro: zcat /usr/share/doc/ltsp-server/lts-parameters.txt.gz
12:52
tho, I think we are phasing that out in favor of the online docs
12:52
<dro>
Gadi: cool ty, I've been looking for that
12:53
<Gadi>
shawnp0wers: if you run ltsp-localapps xterm and then play with alsamixer -c0 in the xterm, you can see if adjusting any of the levels helps
12:53
<shawnp0wers>
Gadi: Ah, good call. Thanks.
12:54
<Gadi>
shawnp0wers: if it does, just use: <channel-name-in-caps>_VOLUME=<level> in lts.conf
12:55wwwood has joined #ltsp
12:56
<shawnp0wers>
hmm.. -c0 doesn't seem to make it happy
12:56
alsamixer alone just gives me the master setting for pulseaudio...
12:57
<Gadi>
-c1?
12:57
<shawnp0wers>
nope
12:57
I get "wrong -c arguement"
12:57
<Gadi>
cat /proc/asound/cards
12:58
<shawnp0wers>
zero is the number...
12:58
but -c0 fails
12:58
odd, no?
12:58
<Gadi>
indeed
12:58
are you in the audio group?
12:59
<shawnp0wers>
hmm, I do not know
12:59
probably not
12:59
<Gadi>
id
12:59
<shawnp0wers>
nope
12:59
and I'll probably need to add it in LDAP...
12:59
<Gadi>
hmm... maybe you have to be
12:59
no, you can add it locally
12:59
<shawnp0wers>
can I add to a local..
12:59
ok, that answers my question. :)
12:59
<Gadi>
you can add an ldap user to a local group
13:00
it'll just only be in that group on that machine
13:00
but, you prolly need to logout/login
13:05
<shawnp0wers>
hmm... I need to do this in the chroot apparently.
13:06
actually, how do local accounts work in the chroot?

<Gadi>
shawnp0wers: dont touch the chroot
13:20
it will grab everything it needs from the server
13:20
<shawnp0wers>
Gadi: You're not the boss of me. LOL!
13:20
<Gadi>
hehe
13:20
<shawnp0wers>
I didn't anyway, I figure I need to reboot perhaps
13:20
but is it build into the NBD image?
13:20
must I update it to refresh the chroot environment?
13:20
(ie, with group info)
13:21
<Gadi>
nope - localapps grabs the info on the fly on login
13:21
<shawnp0wers>
ok, good to know
13:21
well, for some reason my vigr didn't work
13:21
<Gadi>
do you have an audio group in ldap?
13:21
<shawnp0wers>
no
13:21
<Gadi>
good
13:21
<shawnp0wers>
I may have that group id used though...
13:21
(stupid OSX ldap...)
13:21
lemme check
13:22
nope, no group id29 on the ldap server
13:23
<Gadi>
did you : adduser vigr audio?
13:23
<shawnp0wers>
well, on the server id spowers shows audio
13:23
in the ltsp-localapps xterm it doesn't
13:23
and yes, I've logged out/in
13:24
<Gadi>
getent group audio
13:24
<shawnp0wers>
just pulse user
13:24
on the thin client
13:24
lemme reboot and try...
13:26
Gadi still no dice
13:28
<Gadi>
does it have any of the groups you're in?
13:29
<shawnp0wers>
Just the groups from the LDAP server
13:29
<Gadi>
1 sec - ph call
13:29
<shawnp0wers>
in fact, on the server it shows I'm in the admin group (80), but in the thin client it does not
13:29

13:46
(I just enabled the root account in chroot, and su -l 'd)
13:46
It is called "Mic Boos", which I suspect might be "Mic Boost"
13:46
Now how to reference that in lts.conf...
13:47
Gadi: Actually, Mic too -- the Mic Boost just make the Mic that much louder
13:47
as a playback device apparently...
13:47
odd

just wanted to add re this boot with nfs root bug, it seems likely this has nothing to do with ltsp, but is a mountall problem, introduced in 9.10
