How does one generate the sha512 required for the ltsp.conf parameter POST_INIT_SET_ROOT_HASH to set a root password on the LTSP clients?

Hi. Is it possible to set a default XKBLAYOUT for [clients] in new ltsp.conf, like in old lts.conf? If yes, how?

<quinox>
Today I ran LTSP21, the proxy-DHCP setup works great (with LTSP5 I have all the DHCP rules hardcoded in my DHCP server)
20:33
I do have a few questions
20:35
(1) I use PAM-LDAP with LTSP5, with LTSP21 it gets overwritten with pamltsp; most of my LTSP users don't have an entry in /etc/{passwd,shadow}, those users cannot log in (users that do exist in /etc/passwd can login, with their LDAP password)
20:37
how is that supposed to work, should pam-ldap be chained with pam-ltsp somehow? should pam-ldap replace pam-ltsp? should I only use pam-ltsp with some optoin that ignores /etc/passwd and just test the login over SSH?
20:38
(2) pam-ltsp doesn't allow root login, I'm actually fine with my users gaining root via "su -" with a simple known password; is there some option for that?
20:40
(3) I run my SSHD on a non-standard port (not for security but for cleaner logs); looking at pam-ltsp that is currently not supported correct?
20:40
(4) I run /home via NFS4, works like a charm. The login manager doesn't remember my chosen session though, am I correct to assume LTSP has nothing to do with it and I should debug the LM?
20:43
(5) /etc/rc.local talks about RCFILE_x, but these don't work; POST_INIT_x does work, mostly but not entirely. Do these get written to some file somewhere so I can debug POST_INIT_x ?

(6) as a fallback for my users I put the old LTSP image in the images folder; `ltsp ixpe` correctly made an entry for it, it does boot my old image but it also adds `ltsp.img` I think since it doesn't use the old LDM; can I have that old image load with LDM just like it did with LTSP5?
20:47
it was bloody hot today, I only worked for 2 hours or so before my brain gave up and I had to stop. My point being: I haven't read all the man pages very closely, so perhaps they contain all the answers already
20:47
I'll play some more with it tomorrow
20:48
if I can fix (1) I'll switch over completely, if I can't fix (1) I'll revert back to LTSP5 and try again some other weekend
