The files are there before I run ltsp-update-image, and I haven't looked inside the nbd file, but the deletions show up in /cow/etc/init.d/.wh.nbd-client, so I'm guessing they are properly being put into the image, and then something is erasing it early on in the boot process. I haven't looked through the source of /sbin/nbd-c
