<warren>
I found a problem in ldm, the standard scripts are incompatible with Fedora/RHEL because it uses nc with the -q parameter.
13:04
-q only works on Debian/SuSE, not Fedora/RHEL
13:04
Fedora/RHEL defaults to the -q behavior
13:04
http://hg.fedorahosted.org/hg/virt-manager/rev/1f781890ea4a This is a similar issue
13:05
see their ugly kludge? could we use something similar to that?

<stgraber>
I guess we'd have to ...
13:11spectra (~spectra@debian/developer/spectra) joined #ltsp.
13:11
<stgraber>
IIRC it's not even consistent in Debian/Ubuntu as two packages ship the "nc" command, one with -q and the other without
13:20
<vagrantc>
warren: long time no see
13:21
<alkisg>
Maybe on ltsp-common-functions we could make an "nc" function that would make the check on first calls, and even cache the result for later calls...

stgraber, wow
13:37
<alkisg>
alkisg@alkis:~$ /bin/nc.traditional -q
13:37
/bin/nc.traditional: option requires an argument -- 'q'
13:37
alkisg@alkis:~$ /bin/nc.openbsd -q
13:37
/bin/nc.openbsd: option requires an argument -- 'q'

<warren>
nc: invalid option -- 'q'
13:48
alkisg, are all cases of nc usage in LTSP using "nc -q..." ?
13:48
<alkisg>
netcat-openbsd (1.89-1) unstable; urgency=low
13:48
- Add the -q (quit on standard input EOF) flag.
13:48
warren: fedora has netcat-openbsd, right?
13:48
Which version?
13:49
<warren>
alkisg, appears to be from openbsd version 1.84
13:49
<alkisg>
-q was added in 2008... maybe you could ask an upgrade?
13:50
<warren>
alkisg, not possible
13:50
<alkisg>
OK
13:50
I haven't looked at the nc calls in LTSP, but if there's need, we could override it with a function or even with a shell script...
13:51
<warren>
not all nc calls in LTSP use -q
13:54
<alkisg>
I see exactly 1 that doesn't use -q... ltsp-trunk/client/screen-x-common: if nc -z -w 5 $SRV 7100 >/dev/null ; then
13:54
And that's on an unmaintained path
13:54
(XFS)
13:54
<warren>
oh
13:55
ahh
13:55
alkisg, it lacks -q in my k12linux paths, not used by debian
13:55
<alkisg>
I grepped the upstream source. /me shrugs
13:56
<warren>
alkisg, what is your preferred way of dealing with this?

<Gnoze5>
ok im convinced , ltsp rules.
19:37
I have a question though
19:37
does the LTSP MO always assume that most of the processing is done server side
19:38
or are there ways to use more local resources when clients are richer
19:51
<highvoltage>
Gnoze5: yep, with local apps if you want mixed, or you could use fat client mode to run everything locally while still being diskless
19:52
<Gnoze5>
highvoltage that is very good news
19:56
highvoltage, btw in terms of 2d acceleration is it something that will usually work out of the box or does it require chroot customization and such?
20:13
<highvoltage>
Gnoze5: if it's supported hardware you should be fine
20:22andygraybeal (~andy.gray@obsidian.casanueva.com) left irc: Remote host closed the connection
20:28
<Gnoze5>
highvoltage, but drivers have to be installed on the client or server? or does it depended on where the processing is being executed?
20:30
right now im testing with a regular desktop and a HP T5630w thin client
20:30
and both are lacking any sort of accel, 2d or other

Gnoze5, hardware accelleration is done on the client I believe
21:59
Actually I'm sure it is.
22:12
Although I suppose it depends on the kind of accelleration you're talking about... I know anti-aliasing is done client-side, I can imagine 3D accelleration would be done server-side
