<Ark74>
hi guys, i'm trying to boot a thin client form a Virtual Server on LTSP 5.3.7 using a bridged adapter, it finds the source ip address but i got stuck at a tftp time out
04:28
i've searched but no idea why
04:28
there's no much info around
04:29
have you tried something like this before?

evenin' folks
05:45
anyone know of a way to interact with epoptes from a shell?
05:45
<Ark74>
o btw, im using virtual box
05:46
nop, but good question :)
05:46
<joe_sizlack>

05:46
<Ark74>
(not me)
05:48
<joe_sizlack>
you have some question about using ltsp with virtual box?
05:49
<Ark74>
yep
05:50
i'm trying to boot a thin client from a virtual server
05:50
so far i can boot a virtual thin client
05:51
from a real ltsp server
05:51
<joe_sizlack>

06:31
Ark74: can a virtual client get booted from your virtual server?
06:31work_alkisg is now known as alkisg
06:32
<Ark74>
alkisg, yep
06:32
using virtual box
06:33
<alkisg>
OK then try `tftp get` from another client to verify that your tftp is indeed reachable from outside
06:33
<Ark74>
using the same internal network for both, server and client (both virtual)
06:33
<alkisg>

<ltsp>
tftp: Here's a page to help you troubleshoot TFTP problems in Ubuntu: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/Troubleshooting/TFTP
06:34
<Ark74>
i mean, is it possible? have someone done it before?
06:34
real client -> virtual server ltsp boot
06:34
<alkisg>
Sure, all the time
06:34
<Ark74>
O_o!
06:34
nice
06:35
<alkisg>
Many people use VMs for servers
06:35
It gives them flexibility, they say
06:35
<Ark74>
well, yeah using several nic for different networks with diferent distros ;)
06:36
my experiment includes old machines without cmov instruction ;)
06:37
<alkisg>
Just install a debian kernel there, it works fine
06:39
<Ark74>
on the main server?, what about the performance? will it drop? or the vm?
06:41
<alkisg>
It'll drop about 10%
06:43
<Ark74>
mmm, interesting. That will be easier than all this stuff :)
06:44
and a VM won't get the full potential of the server on the first place
07:05
<joe_sizlack>
ah, cool
07:06
I'd love to be able to execute a bunch of commands easily without having to forward X

i did an ltsp installation long time ago, and the chroot image could be edited by hand and isntall packages inside for the clients to have the software. But now, unless i install directly de software to de server, the clients dont see it
09:48
and its kinda hot swap, cause without rebuilding the image, the clients see the new software
09:48
even if they are logued in

09:54
So you're probably using standard thin clients

I.e. you install stuff on the server for the clients to see it
09:55
You want to change that?

yes, i want diferent images

dont need the desktop on the server

<work_alkisg>
Were you asking about that again a few days ago?
09:57
Where I suggested that you would use VMs?
09:57
<Guest76417>
oh, one of my colleagues maybe
09:57
he told me to come here
09:57
and ask for more help
09:57
<work_alkisg>
What more help?
09:58
<Guest76417>
we couldn't manage to do the VM's thing and fat clients are not an option cause old hardware :(
09:58
<work_alkisg>
So you have specific questions that you want to ask, or are you searching for someone to do it instead of you?
09:59
<Guest76417>
haha no sorry we want to doit ourselves its just that this has changed a lot with a few years
09:59
and it was easy to create and mantain chroot images for the clients with specdific software
10:00
<work_alkisg>
It's a lot easier nowadays than before
10:00
<Guest76417>
so the path would be creating fat client images
10:00
isn't it? for the software thing that i need to have
10:02
<work_alkisg>
After chatting with your colleague, we ended up with "install 1 ltsp server in a VM, and hide the software you don't need dynamically, don't use multiple chroots"
10:02
!ltsp-pnp
10:02
<ltsp>
ltsp-pnp: ltsp-pnp is an alternative (upstream) method to maintain LTSP installations for thin and fat clients that doesn't involve chroots: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/ltsp-pnp
10:02
<work_alkisg>
This should make things easier ^
10:03

Hi
16:14
alkisg, i search a way to filter users who appears in Epoptes
16:15
Maybe somebody else could help me ?
16:17
for example, i have a prof who use epoptes and he see students and himself
16:20
<alkisg>
jmilot: you can select not to launch epoptes-client in startup apps
16:20
But he's probably running it the wrong way, if he sees himself...
16:20
E.g. maybe he's using ssh -X ?
16:21
<jmilot>
yes he could use ltsp or NX ( ssh -X)
16:21
but it seems to appear in ltsp

so i can change ltsp configuration to delete init epoptes-client file

16:23
It's not related to ltsp, it's a gnome (xdg) thing

we don't use gnome but kde trinity
16:23
how i can delete the use of epoptes-client ?
