Hi everyone, i'm trying to setup an ltsp server on an existing Ubuntu Server, but i'm having trouble with the nbd-server, would this be the correct place to ask for help?
10:43
Been trying to track down the reason for two days now, and I think i'm on track, but can't find anything when I search for the error.
10:45freedomrun has joined IRC (freedomrun!~freedomru@unaffiliated/freedomrun)

<workingcats>
Eldaria, yep you're probably correct here
10:49
<Eldaria>
Great. It was after I monitored the syslog, that I came across that the nbd-server starts, and then stop immediately. and in syslog it shows "nbd_server[721]: bind: Address already in use" I tried to change the(or actually add a) port in the configuration file, but same error.
10:52
<workingcats>
what does "netstat -anp | grep 10809" say?
10:53
<Eldaria>
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:10809 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 21884/nbd-server
10:53
hmm
10:53
<workingcats>
then nbd-server is already listening correctly
10:53
i have the same output
10:54
(well, plus an extra line for the established connection from the machine i'm sitting at)

i'm quite sure it is the nbd part that is not working as it should, I disable the splash and see the boot sequence, I aslo see in the syslog, the pxe dhcp, and when the client request an IP. but see no indication in any logs that it tries to connect to the nbd-server. On the client it fails with "setting up nbd-client ... Error: socket failed: connection refused
11:15

Eldaria: What system?

Ubuntu 12.04

How do I check tftp server log file
11:28
I keep getting tftp time out
11:28
<workingcats>
Eldaria, can you try booting one of the clients using e.g. a live cd, let it grab network config via DHCP as normal, then try to ping the server?
11:29
<wiryono>
the dhcp server can ping my ltsp server ...
11:31
<Eldaria>
@workingcats booting livecd
11:31
<wiryono>
let me try
11:38alexqwesa has left IRC (alexqwesa!~alex@109.172.12.47, Remote host closed the connection)

<wiryono>
I can ping normally
11:39
@workingcats > I can ping normally from live cd to tftp server
11:40
problem with the image
11:40
?
11:40
It works then I add some script that will be called by the user when they login manually using preferences > startup application
11:41
then it got tftp timeout ...
11:44
<workingcats>
Eldaria, check the logs on the server
11:44
wiryono, you mean you do this on the server or on the logged in client?
11:47
<wiryono>
on a new client machine I go to live cd and can ping ltsp server normally
11:48
1. I can boot ltsp from the client normally
11:48
2. then I tweak the ltsp server a bit to add some feature
11:48
3. client can no longer boot get TFTP open timeout
11:49
4. client boot to ubuntu live cd and can ping ltsp server
11:50
<Gremble>
Fenuks, thanks
11:51
<workingcats>
wiryono, so how exactly did you tweak it?
11:53
<wiryono>
I add a bash script to chroot /opt/ltsp/i365/usr/local/bin, then I set in the client ( after login to ltsp ) preferences > startup application to call that script
11:53
then I do ltsp-update-image, then restart the client and get the TFTP open timeout
11:53
so I remove the script from above folder rebuild the image and still has problem
11:54
<workingcats>
probably unrelated
11:54
<wiryono>
oh forget to mention I got two nic, I set the dhcp to go to the correct one but maybe I need to specify in the tftp configuration ?
11:54
<workingcats>
can you telnet to the tftp port from the ltsp client side?
11:54
<wiryono>
because there is a case like this before I just delete the script and it works :D, but not this time
11:54
from live cd ?
11:55
ltsp client now cannot boot .... so from live cd ?
11:55
<workingcats>
well anything that got its config via dhcp should be ok
11:56
<wiryono>
btw what is the log file for ltsp or tftp
11:57
ouch the port is 69 ?
11:57
can't telnet
11:57
iptables problem ...
12:02
<Eldaria>
workingcats: so I got it booted to a live cd, sorry for the delay, it could not boot from usb so had to make a cd. I can ping the server, as well as telnet to the nbd port 10809, server responded with "NBDMAGICIHAVEOPT"
12:03
tried to install ndb-client package, but it does not seem to want to load the module from a live cd.
12:05
<workingcats>

interesting, changing the "ndbroot=" in /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/amd64/pxelinux.cfg/default changes the error. Initially it was ndbroot=:ltsp_amd64 tried to change it to something random, and it will give the same error. However changing it to the ip, gives a "insufficient information to set up nbd, quitting (nbdroot=192.168.1.10, host=192.168.1.10, name=, port=, nbd-device=/dev/nbd0)" changing it to ip:port gicves same error Socket failed

does ltsp use ssh for login?
13:45
hmm, this is going to be tricky, my ssh has password logins disabled, only key based or Google auth allowed.
13:47
<alkisg>
Eldaria: I think that your nbd-server had a race condition and it crashed
13:47
That started happenning around 12.04
13:47
After it happens, you need to restart it in order to accept connections again
13:47
LTSP does use ssh for logins, yeah
13:48
What is "google auth"? No password there?
13:49
<Eldaria>
Google auth, uses Google Authenticator token, so if you do not provide a key, you are required to enter a Goggle authenticator token additionally to your password
13:50
a hack i found, so I could log in even if I did not have my key with me. :-)
13:50
so server basically only allows ssh login vie key or token
13:51
would it be possible to configure ltsp to use a key stored on a usb for example?
13:51
don't really want to lower my security for ltsp. :-)
13:52

Eldaria, no, but you need a proper [default} section at the top, else the file wont be parsed, also are your clients actually amd64 ?

(else you would put it in the i386 subdir)

the lts.conf simply needs to be in the matching tftp dir for the image you use
