<alkisg>
bennabiy: I don't think the client needs a helper
15:01
It's launched by root there
15:02
Only the server side would require a helper...
15:02
sanmayel: I don't think people speak spanish here... english?
15:02
<bennabiy>
I know, but the scripts copy the settings from the client to fstab on server, but that is not being carried over

sanmayel_, which distro/version? ubuntu 14.04?
15:07
<sanmayel_>
debian 7
15:07
<alkisg>
Is that jessie?
15:07
<bennabiy>
alkisg: When you call fusermount -uzq PATH it works manually, but when you place it in the helper script, it does not error, but it also does not unmount
15:07
<sanmayel_>
wheezy
15:07
<alkisg>
sanmayel_: are you using nbd or nfs? did you see where the hard drive usage is?
15:08
<sanmayel_>
nfs
15:08
<alkisg>
Did you see which files fill your hard drive?
15:09
bennabiy: which script is called server-side?
15:09
<bennabiy>
ltspfsmounter
15:09
<sanmayel_>
what happens is that this ltsp server got it as my job and I realized today that home users is full
15:10
<bennabiy>
I have a feeling that the breakdown is in lbmount
15:10
<sanmayel_>
quite varios archivos sin importancia en las sesiones de los usuarios pero nada
15:11
remove several unimportant files in user sessions but nothing
15:11
sorry
15:11
<alkisg>
sanmayel_: is this related to the ltsp code? Or is it just a question about what files to free when a server is full?
15:12
<bennabiy>
alkisg: hmm, lbmount looks good...
15:12
<alkisg>
bennabiy: fusermount -u is the unmount command, right? and lbmount is the mount command
15:12
We'd need it in the lbmount command
15:12
<bennabiy>
lbmount is used for mounting and unmounting
15:13
<alkisg>
I think I had looked into it in the past, and saw that fuse didn't pass all the options to mount...
15:13
<bennabiy>
yes
15:13
<sanmayel_>
if that file released when a server is full?
15:13
<bennabiy>
I am trying to find where those options are passed
15:13
<alkisg>
I might have even filed a bug report to fuse about this... or I was thinking to...
15:13
<bennabiy>
you filed one in the ltsp, which is something I wanted to fix, because it affects us as well
15:14
<alkisg>
sanmayel_: is there a debian-es channel? maybe they could help you there about deleting files...
15:14
<bennabiy>
Is it actually an issue with fuse?
15:14
<sanmayel_>
ok thank

15:14
<alkisg>
I saw your comment in my bug report, but I do remember something else with fuse as well... not sure if it was the same thing
15:16
<bennabiy>
on the server, fusermount -u removes the device, with or without the helper.
15:16
<alkisg>
Sure, that doesn't help though
15:16
<bennabiy>
nope
15:16
<alkisg>
I think udisks version one was using helper scripts in the command line
15:17
<bennabiy>
and with the /etc/mtab edited to add the helper, I do not get a complaint, but I also do not get an unmounted drive
15:17
<alkisg>
I also think that I didn't see the helpers in the command line in udisks2, maybe they are somehow automated more now
15:17
<bennabiy>
helpers are only mentioned in the footnotes of the mount man page
15:18
<alkisg>
The lbmount helper there would be supposed to actually unmount the device in both the server and the client
15:18
<bennabiy>
and I wondered if it had to do with needing to specify fuse.ltspfs
15:18
<alkisg>
I think the proper one would be umount.fuse
15:18
And that would replace fusermount -u
15:18
(or complement it)
15:18
<bennabiy>
let me try it

hmm, I just get an error unable to unmount, but nothing about fstab etc
15:22
<alkisg>
I mean that fuse should include a helper in its mount line, about umount.fuse
15:22
And that it wouldn't be ltspfs specific
15:22
I think that's what I mailed miklos, the fuse maintainer, about
15:22
<bennabiy>
ah
15:22
<alkisg>
I don't remember the details though, it's been years.... and I never actually used ltspfs/d

vagrantc: So, over the next week or so, I'm going to be working on getting the last thing going that I want in libpam-sshauth.
16:46
That is, having the auth phase read the userid and group id from the remote side, and then forking off the ssh master socket.
16:46
<vagrantc>
ok.
16:47
<sbalneav>
Once I get that done, and between that, and the new lightdm-webkit-greeter, I think we'll have all the parts necessary to put ldm to bed.
16:47
<vagrantc>
sbalneav: should i update the lightdm-webkit-greeter packages? or did you get a chance to test the old ones?
16:48
packaging should hopefully not require any changes, as long as the upstream Makefiles and whatnot are sane

vagrantc: Point of style
17:28
If I was going to spawn off the ssh module
17:28
sorry, the ssh socket.
17:28
I'm wondering, should I include THAT code as part of libpam_sshauth
17:28
or should I make it a separate pam module?
17:29
I'm leaning towards making it a separate pam module.
17:29
Otherwise the code gets too big and ugly and trying to do "too much" in the auth part.
17:30
Thoughts?
17:35
<vagrantc>
sbalneav: nothing beyond the obvious: modularity is useful, but then tight version coupling/dependencies can be harder to maintain
17:52
<sbalneav>
Hm
17:53
I'm gonna write 'em as separate. Always easier to mash two projects together than strip one project into two.

I want my students to have access to run VirtualBox so they can learn about VM's and install different OS's. Will it run ok within the confines of LTSP? I am running a FAT client. My hosts are quad core with 8G RAM
18:07
<alkisg>
JuJuBee: yup, vbox runs fine under ltsp
18:07
You can switch to nfs if you want to save some cpu due to sshfs encryption
18:07
(for /home, or for /share)
18:08
sbalneav: why don't you just provide an option to enable the socket or not? the use cases of libpam_sshauth without the socket are a bit rare, aren't they?
18:10
<JuJuBee>
alkisg: suggestions on how to install? from .deb or repo?
18:11

<alkisg>
Ah, you're not using ltsp-pnp? Sure, yes, just create a vboxgroup group on the server. I don't think the same gid is necessary, but select it in any case.
18:41
<maldridge>
gid doesn't matter, it matches by name
18:41

Great, thanks to both

(gid doesn't matter as long as there are no gid conflicts between the server and client)

note that vbox complains if you try to install it in a chroot with a different kernel version than the one currently running (i.e. the server one)

Is it possible to get an LTSP client to display the nice graphical splash screen, instead of the "text" based splash screen I'm getting now? This is under Ubuntu, where the "plymouth" package handles "splash".

Does anybody have any ideas as to why USB ports wouldn't work on newer hardware on Edubuntu clients? I have several labs running but have had to purchase new hardware and everything is working well except for the USB keyboard and mouse.

The mouse and keyboard work all the way up to the point where the Edubuntu login screen aprears.
