ahah :D so, tg3 module is loading (added to niclist with the right PCI ids) but not finding the card. I have a suspicion I need to scare up the right version of broadcom.ko and make it load.

hi, i'm setting up an ltsp server with fat clients. my server has got 2 ethernet card eth0 and eth1. eth0 goes over an proxy server in the internet and on eth0 there is a local net with a switch and some fat clients. how can i "share" the inet connection between eth0 and eth1? maybe without needing to type the proxy address on the clients?
14:46
my eth0 network has got 172.29.181.xxx addresses and my eth1 network is in 192.168.1.xxx

I am running into an issue where USB drives plugged into the server try to run the gamut of users logged into workstations for auth until they default to the user logged directly into the server. Is there a way to check if a user is logged into the server, and have the drives mounted to that user?

Guys, for the thin clients to have lts.conf uses TFTP for copy?

I have a couple older disklessworkstation 1520 thin clients that have passed on, I ordered the new 1720 as replacement. Super fast shipping, got them to me in 2 days, Thanks Ron & Co!! I have a setup question though. I went into the DHCP scope, changed the mac address from the old 1520 thin client to the new 1720 thin client, plugged it in and it got the LTSP image which is great, but the screen resolution is 640x480 not 1440x900 like the old thin client. Any
16:33
<vagrantc>
huh
16:34
know what video drivers it uses?
16:42
<bennabiy>
does it put the login prompt off on the side?

<bieb>
vagrantc: hows it going?
17:15
<bennabiy>
I built it, but it busyboxes
17:16
bieb, try editing your pxelinux.cfg/default and add the line video=LVDS-1:d to the end of the append string
17:17* vagrantc waves to bieb
17:17
<bieb>
bennabiy: LVDS-1 smiley face?
17:17Parker955_Away is now known as Parker955
17:17
<bieb>
lol
17:18
<bennabiy>
you can also put it in /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/ltsp/update-kernel.conf CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="init=/sbin/init-ltsp quiet splash plymouth:force-splash vt.handoff=7 video=LVDS-1: d" (without the space between : and d)
17:19
then update kernels inside your chroot, and then outside
17:19
should fix it
17:19
<bieb>
bennabiy: will that have any affect on the other 10 of the old thin client that work correctly?
17:20
<bennabiy>
shouldn't, but if it does, you can find a way to set it specifically for that machine
17:20
or that kind of machine
17:21
<bieb>
ok.. yeah I will have 3 of the 1720 thin client mixed in with the other 10 1520 clients
17:21
<bennabiy>
basically what is happening is that your thinclient is being detected as having a laptop screen, which it then tries to mirror and match the resolution of the nonexisting screen
17:21
<bieb>
ohhh
17:22
<bennabiy>
if you log in and look under monitors, it will show that it is mirroring
17:22
you could also disable XRANDR
17:22
but if you do this, you do not have to
17:22
<bieb>
do not have to??
17:22
<bennabiy>
vagrantc: I am planning on doing more with it after the weekend
17:23
bieb: disable xrandr
17:24
<bieb>
what is xrandr? is that what is causing it to try to mirror?
17:25
<vagrantc>
xrandr allows for dynamic screen resizing, rotating, mirroring, etc
17:25
multihead
17:26
<bieb>
ok.. gotcha

FrozenZia: one way would be to put an RCFILE_01="echo '%admin ALL=NOPASSWD: ALL' >> /etc/sudoers" line in lts.conf. "admin" is a group name, you may change it to anything else you want.

Hello, I have some questions about the LTSP units and more specifically their options for booting
18:26
I know that they can boot over lan, but what I am wondering is if they can boot from a USB thumb drive
18:29
<alkisg>
Yup, that's doable too
18:30
<KyleF_>
What is their performance from USB? Mainly on a flash interface.
18:31
I am looking to possibly build some hopefully lowcost NEMA 4X rated enclosures with touch screen to access a flash based webgui for HVAC controls
18:31
<alkisg>
A good lan may give 100mbps per client => 10 mb/sec transfer rate, zero seek time
18:31
An old hard drive has e.g. 20 mb/sec, big seek time
18:31
A usb stick might have 15 mb/sec read, zero seek time
18:32
All those have about similar performance...
18:33
<KyleF_>
So that should be doable then. The units wouldn't be tasked to doing anything else but have the webgui loaded and displaying real-time information and allow adjustments via flash interface
18:33
Approximately how much heat do the units generate and what is their operating temperature zone? To make the enclosures NEMA 4X they will have to be completely sealed
