<vagrantc>
Updating your LTSP chroot
01:30
"First make sure the Client environment has the same Package lists as the Server, to achieve that, you will copy the /etc/apt/sources.list (on Debian and Ubuntu) or the /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora.repo file from the Server to the Client environment. "
01:30
what?
01:30
the chroot's sources should already be configured...
01:30
or is it talking about upgrading to a new release?

16:03
sorry
16:03
<vagrantc>
there are some spanish speakers here, but in general this is in english.
16:04
<davemir>
ok
16:04
thanks
16:05
vagrantc: use a LSTP?
16:05
<vagrantc>
davemir: i do most of the development for Debian.
16:05
LTSP development for Debian
16:07
<davemir>
I use ubuntu
16:07
<vagrantc>
it's similar
16:08
<davemir>
yes
16:08
my problem is...
16:09
I can't run the ltsp-manager
16:10
<vagrantc>
i think ltsp-manager is unmaintained...
16:11
<davemir>
ok
16:11
there is another option
16:12
is that I am still very novice manual
16:13
<vagrantc>
davemir: what are you trying to do?
16:14
<davemir>
I'm doing a project for my school
16:16
implement a terminal server at school and recycle old pc
16:17
and the other
16:17
<vagrantc>
cool :)
16:17
davemir: where at?
16:17
<davemir>
applications run only on the LTSP server
16:19
i don't understand
16:19
<vagrantc>
davemir: where is your school?
16:19
de donde eres?
16:19
<davemir>
understand
16:20
soy de Catalonia
16:20
<vagrantc>
ah.
16:20
<davemir>
province Girona
16:21
sorry for my english
16:21
<vagrantc>
no problem :)
16:22
<davemir>
ok
16:22litlebuda has quit IRC

<vagrantc>
davemir: i think with ubuntu the recommended method is to use the alternate install CD and select the LTSP option from the menu.
16:23
<davemir>
I have it installed and this option
16:23
<vagrantc>
do you have specific problems?
16:24
<davemir>
yes
16:24
i have many problems
16:24
xd
16:24
but
16:24
<vagrantc>
heh
16:25
well, start with one, and we'll see what we can do
16:25
<davemir>
at this time
16:26
have one installed with the ubuntu alternate method ltsp installed from the beginning
16:27
I installed virtualbox will make me thin client
16:27
ok?
16:27
and problem
16:27
<vagrantc>
ok
16:28
<davemir>
I configured with graphical interface
16:28
understand
16:29
I do not want to do manual
16:29
so I wanted to use the ltsp-manager
16:29
<vagrantc>
shouldn't require much configuration
16:30
<davemir>
It does not work
16:31
or so that fact is sufficient
16:31
?
16:32mikkel has quit IRC
16:33
<davemir>
vagrantc: for you should not touch anything or do you?
16:34
<vagrantc>
davemir: you shouldn't *need* to change things. i'm not sure how broken ltsp-manager is
16:35
<davemir>
You know some other option?
16:36
<vagrantc>
i don't
16:37
<davemir>
the only option is to manually
16:37
no?
16:37
<vagrantc>
as far as i know.
16:38
<davemir>
ok
16:38
thanks
16:38
other problem
16:39
when I have started the thin client
16:40
From what I understood the thin client would not be able to install anything or do you?
16:41
<vagrantc>
correct.
16:41
though you can install packages into the thin client environment from the server.
16:42
<davemir>
my problem is
16:42
thin client I can install from the openoffice, etc.
16:43
This may be the cause
16:43
<vagrantc>
you normally just install programs on the server.
16:43
the thin client connects to the server, and programs are executed on the server, not the thin client.
16:45
<davemir>
that's what I would have to be but is not
16:47
now let me say that I am very beginner with servers and linux
16:47
<vagrantc>
ok
16:48
<davemir>
may be because users are not created yet?
16:49
<vagrantc>
you do need to create users on the server, yes.
16:49
<davemir>
How
16:51
?
16:53
<vagrantc>
adduser from the commandline should work, but there's probably a graphical tool for ubuntu

vagrantc: yes o no?
17:01
<vagrantc>
davemir: i don't know ubuntu... i use the command line on debian systems.
17:02
<davemir>
ok
17:02lucascoala has quit IRC
17:02
<davemir>
I could explain all the steps as in the console to create users for the thin client?
17:03
please
17:06
<vagrantc>
adduser $USERNAME ; adduser $USERNAME fuse
17:06
where $USERNAME is the name of the user you want to add.
17:07
<Lns>
davemir, also you can read http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/howto-linux-add-user-use-adduser-command/
17:08
davemir, also in Ubuntu you can go to System -> Administration -> Users and Groups - it should be fairly self explanatory
17:08
<davemir>
thanks Lns
17:09
but I have to choose which profile for the thin client
17:09
<Lns>
davemir, when you add users to the server, you log in with them on the thin client
17:09
there is no difference
17:10
<davemir>
but my problem is...
17:11
The thin client can install programs you do not have to do
17:11
understand
17:11
<Lns>
davemir, are you talking about localapps?
17:11
<davemir>
thanks vagrantc
17:11
<Lns>
or no
17:12
<davemir>
I don't know
17:12
<Lns>
davemir, pretend that the thin clients are just monitors/keyboards/mice running from the server
17:12
you do everything on the server
17:12
<davemir>
I am very beginner even in this
17:12
<Lns>
you don't have to worry about the thin clients software, they boot from the network
17:12
davemir, you should check out this wiki for ubuntu LTSP: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP
17:12
it has a lot of documentation to help you get started
17:13
I have to go but do read the pages on that wiki
17:13
<davemir>
yes

thank you very much
17:17
or I have to create users for localapps or no?
17:19
Lns: or I have to create users for localapps or no?
17:20
<jammcq>
davemir: if you are a newbie, then you should NOT be using local apps yet. that is advanced and you probably don't need it
17:21
<davemir>
Lns: So where to start
17:21
<jammcq>
lns is gone. he had to leave
17:22
<davemir>
sorry
17:22
<jammcq>
davemir: what is your native language?
17:22
<davemir>
jammcq: So where to start
17:22
<jammcq>
sorry, I'm not much help
17:22
but you should just do a normal install, on the Ubuntu wiki
17:23
<davemir>
my language is catalan and spanish
17:23
<jammcq>
ah
17:24
<davemir>
nothing happens
17:24
thanks for trying
17:27
vagranc, Lns: I read the links and if I have any questions back here
17:27
vagranc, Lns, jammcq: thanks for everything

jammcq, when you moved the ltsp wiki away from twiki, was it purely because of the 'security' of spam showing up or did you imply other twiki specific security issues?
18:37
<jammcq>
over the years, I got alot of people telling me they didn't like twiki.
18:37
not sure why, I always liked it
18:37
but I figured that mediawiki was pretty good, so I went towards that
18:38
unfortunately, mediawiki is harder to use, and the setup at sourceforge isn't great
18:38
<Lns>
ah
18:39
I use twiki on a very small scale, i tried almost all of them i could find
18:39
i like the file upload functionality, and generally the way it's laid out
18:39
very clean imho

How can I correct a dbus failure from gnome-keyring-daemon?
20:04
I log into a client, it authenticates successfully, then kicks back to login screen. On server, in auth.log, I see gnome-keyring-daemon: dbus failure unregistering
20:10
ok, maybe it's compiz. How can I disable compiz on LTSP clients?
