05:22
the sistem is ubuntu 8.04
05:22
I have the terminal logs but I can't understand
05:22
why the resolution is not correct and the driver switches to vesa instead of radeon
05:23
the graphic card of the thin client is ati radeon x1250
05:23
but it works with vesa only
05:24
any idea?
05:24
or anybody able to read the log?

<maginot>
good morning
07:45
<pennyallen>
please can somebody
07:45
redirect me to a howto for installing ltsp 5 on slackware 12.2
07:45
<ogra>
pennyallen, there is no port of ltsp5 to slackware yet
07:46
<pennyallen>
so we cannot use it under slck
07:46
even if we have to recompile??
07:47
<maginot>
Im having a problem to boot some clients with different nics from the tested yesterday using rtl8169 boards. When I boot the client it hangs in the drawing of the login sceen, I have a loading cursor stucked and a ldm screen not fuly loaded (the input field is a blank retangle) and I can't switch to the shell (alt+f2)
07:47
pennyallen, you can always be the first ... the source is out there ;)
07:47
<ogra>
pennyallen, ltsp5 uses all distro packages and mechanisms as wellas teh distro kernel to build the client environment, it needs proper integration with the distro to work
07:48
you cant *just compile* something here
07:48
<pennyallen>
ok
07:49
thanks
07:49
but I can still use the ltsp4

07:50
<pennyallen>
hummmm
07:52
<maginot>
anyone for my problem o.O
07:58
<alkisg>
maginot: try to see if it's an X problem; e.g. with XSERVER=vesa in lts.conf. If it's not, then try to debug it with SCREEN_02=shell
07:58
yggdrasill_: upload the log to pastebot and paste the link, maybe someone can see the problem.
07:59
<maginot>
alkisg, both are in lts.conf, and I just add X_MODE = 1024x768 ... same problem, but now after pressing a lot alt+f2 in the boot process I'm in Shell... what can I do to debug this?
07:59
<alkisg>
maginot: distro/version?
07:59
<maginot>
alkisg, ubuntu 8.10

CONFIGURE_X=True is set too ?
08:00
<alkisg>
So, is the X server running now? Or you only got a shell?
08:00
<yggdrasill_>
I've the same problem with 1680x105 resolution
08:01
<maginot>
ldm.log has only something like spawning greeter ... CONFIGURE_X is not in my lts.conf I have SCREEN_07 = ldm instead... but I know the in screen 7 I have ldm login stucked, if I alternate to it I will need to reboot

08:01
<maginot>
Hmmmm
08:02
let me see
08:02
<alkisg>
maginot: What ogra says. Also, do getltscfg -a to see what lts.conf settings actually reach the client.

08:05
finally I did..
08:06
I apologize for problems but I have no practice with irc
08:07
I set xserver to auto
08:07
and I also tried to radeon or ati
08:08
but when the thin client starts the driver switch to vesa.
08:08
at 1280x1024
08:08
but monitors are 1680x1050
08:08
<alkisg>
yggdrasill_: from what I can see, it doesn't detect your monitor timings (horizsync and vertrefresh) properly. It doesn't switch to vesa; it just uses a lower resolution (640x480).
08:09
<yggdrasill_>
hmmm.
08:09
<alkisg>
If you run `xvinfo` in the client, doesn't it say that it uses the ati driver?
08:09

Gadi, okay, so I will only need to install cups in chroot and them I will be able to see the printers normaly
09:00

yup

yes gadi...
09:26
as you may see, the system is probing for 1680x1050
09:26
but after it passes to the other resolutions I set on the lts.conf
09:26
like 1440x900
09:26
and 1280x720
09:26
but it skip
09:27
and finally the card is set to 640x480
09:27
<Gadi>
try:
09:27
<yggdrasill_>
but as you can see the adapter is correctly recognized
09:27
<Gadi>
X_DEVICE_OPTION_01 = "\"IgnoreEDID\" \"true\""
09:27
in your lts.conf
09:30
also, is this a laptop?
09:30
it seems to find an LVDS and DVI output
09:30
if it is not a laptop and finds LVDS in error, you may need to tell it to ignore LVDS

should I use X_DEVICE_OPTION_01 = "\"IgnoreEDID\" \"true\""

exactly how you typed it?
09:54
<Gadi>
try it
09:55
if X_DEVICE_OPTION_01 doesn't work, try it with X_OPTION_01 (not sure which intrepid supported)
09:55
<yggdrasill_>
but where can I access to this "advanced" informations about x config?
09:55

hi, ltsp newbie here - just setting up a new ltsp server from the Ubuntu 8.10 alternate install CD and have a question ...
12:12
didn't have my second NIC card yesterday, and was too impatient, so installed LTSP Server from the CD
12:13
All went well, no probs - set up RAID nicely, etc
12:13
It told me I should do something later when I had installed the second NIC card - and I didn't write that down (D'oh!)
12:15
DOes anyone know what it is I should now do, to have the second NIC server run my thin client network?

guys what differece betwen kiwi and ltsp?
13:30
<maginot>
xs4rg7nt, KIWI-LTSP is nothing more than LTSP5 implementation on openSUSE
13:31
<cliebow>
xs4rg7nt, i believe kiwi is installer fro suse..
13:31
kiwi-ltsp uses installer to create ltsp chroot
13:31
<maginot>
xs4rg7nt, from kiwi site: "The Linux Terminal Server Project adds thin-client support to Linux servers. LTSP is a flexible, cost effective solution that is empowering schools, businesses, and organizations all over the world to easily install and deploy desktop workstations. A growing number of Linux distributions include LTSP out-of-the-box."
13:31
xs4rg7nt, "The openSuSE KIWI Image System provides a complete operating system image solution for Linux supported hardware platforms as well as for virtualisation systems like Xen Qemu or VMware. KIWI features distribution independent design, support for virtual systems, network deployed images, live CDs, thick clients and now with kiwi-ltsp diskless clients too."

xs4rg7nt, you are already seeing the login text input ?
13:36
have you checked your dhcpd.conf?

i need some option like in ltsp4 server = xx.xx.xx.xx xserver=auto\
13:52
<The_Code>
xs4rg7nt, xserver=auto is default, the server ip is set inside the image when using kiwi-ltsp and set in /etc/sysconfig/kiwi-ltsp
13:52
after setting it in /etc/sysconfig/kiwi-ltsp you need to rerun kiwi-ltsp-setup -c
13:52
after that you should be able to boot your clients and log in
13:53
<xs4rg7nt>
and where is build the iso
13:54
the boot image
13:54
<The_Code>
xs4rg7nt, you can not make changes after the image was created, only in lts.conf

13:57
<The_Code>
xs4rg7nt, this is controlled by /etc/sysconfig/kiwi-ltsp, set the server ip and all other ip settings there and then rerun kiwi-ltsp-setup -c, this should work

just finished running an apt-get upgrade in chroot, and wanted to update the image
14:21
so I exit out of chroot, and run ltsp-update-image --arch i386
14:21
and it appears that it tried to read from /opt/ltsp/i386/proc
14:22
didn't ltsp-update-image unmount /opt/ltsp/i386/proc automatically?

Has anyone reported ltsp client logoff issues under hardy after applying updates from the last 3 months?

<cor3>
well I basically applied a ton of updates(3+ months worth) to my hardy ltsp server
15:08
updated the client filesystem/image
15:08
regenerated ssh keys just in case
15:08
rebooted server tested functionality
15:08
everything checked out fine until I clicked the logoff in gnome
15:08
nothing happens
15:08
<_UsUrPeR_>
no logoff at all?
15:09
it stays in the desktop?
15:09
<cor3>
nope doesn't even popup the power options etc
15:09
ya
15:09
stays on the desktop
15:09
<maginot>
can anyone tell me if this is right? http://maginot.pastebin.com/m2b12940d
15:09
<cor3>
tried at least 3 separate clients with different logins and had same result
15:10
searched forums and tried a few things like removing fast user switching etc
15:10
no resolution found yet though
15:10
ctrl+alt+backspace seems to lock up the terminal
15:11
<_UsUrPeR_>
?!? woah.
15:11
<cor3>
so only a manual poweroff makes the terminals usable but it leaves procs sitting there from the previous user
15:11
<_UsUrPeR_>
are you noticing any weird errors in /var/log/auth.log at logon?
15:12
<cor3>
I'll verify the logs again
15:13
nothing out of the ordinary in auth.log
15:14
audio, local devices etc work just fine
15:14
its just the stupid log off button in gnome
15:15
I should try another window manager to see if its affected
15:15
perhaps xfce

Hey gang. I have a cobbler/PXE server setup and running. I'm trying to retro fit tlsp so it's a menu option in the existing PXE. I have everything work up to mounting the root FS. I get it can't find the dhcp root path option. Is there any way to specify that on the kernel boot line?

anyone here know what the absence of TSV timestamps in a packet in wireshark might indicate?
15:54
<alkisg>
MikeyCarter: I think this would be distro specific; for example (and AFAIK) Ubuntu doesn't support this, you'd have to patch the initramfs scripts to support it.
15:55
<vagrantc>
initramfs-tools has support for passing root-path on the commandline for ages.
15:55
<alkisg>
vagrantc: what's the parameter? root=xxx?
15:56
<vagrantc>
alkisg: nfsroot
15:57
alkisg: so it probably doesn't work for NBD in ubuntu.
15:57
but the root-path parameter is specifically about nfs anyways...
15:57
<Gadi_eeepc>
ubuntu has nbdroot=<ip:port>
15:57
<MikeyCarter>
ubuntu I can boot the livecd's directly from PXE using nfsroot. It's always been redhat based which has given me problems.
15:57
<alkisg>
I didn't test nfsroot (neither root), I remember trying to pass the filename and I couldn't...
15:59
(boot filename, to find the lts.conf location)
