<muppis>
I got an idea about application which can use install/remove packages from chroot, and also keeps track from them to ease rebuilding. Does that kind of app already exist or do I create one?

<muppis>
NeonLicht, my actual point is in rebuilding. Had to do that last week and it was pain to try remember what I've installed as localapps.
00:57
<NeonLicht>
That's trivial with apt and dpkg, isn't it?
00:57
<muppis>
Should be.
00:58
<NeonLicht>
Just do dpkg get-selections and you know what you have installed.
01:00
<muppis>
I know, but simplify that whole progress behind one app.
01:01
<NeonLicht>
Like that app beign the package manager of the distribution? :)
01:01
<muppis>
More like package manager for chroot and being outside of chroot.
01:05
Adn doing like ltsp-install --rebuild calls ltsp-build-client and then chroot /opt... apt-get install ..

hey guys, my work runs thin clients connecting to a main server using x --query, how can i build/get a minimal image that can do just that
01:51
at the moment we are using an ancient build of centos
01:52
anyone alive or was that a waste of time? lol :)

is there any ready made iso ?
02:25
<alkisg>
No, there's no iso. The command to build a chroot is "ltsp-build-client".
02:26
The clients are netbooted, thus no .iso

hi all
06:22
I am running LSTP on ubuntu 10.04 for first time, the client reach starting LTSP client then stuck
06:22
<highvoltage>
where does it get stuck?
06:22
<khussein78>
give task modprobe timeout
06:23
<highvoltage>
what hardware are you using for thin clients?
06:23
<khussein78>
acer laptop, and i also tried Dell latitude 5500 laptop
06:24
highvoltage, how can i troubleshoot the problem

Hi peeps, I need some advice. my thin clients keeps losing connection to the intranet website on the ltsp server any ideas?
06:56
infact all internet stops working intermitenly
07:02
<khussein78>
highvoltage, I solved the problem by add this option NIC=tg3 on default config file in pxelinux.cfg
07:03
<highvoltage>
khussein78: ah, great
07:03
<khussein78>
but after i start my clinet , enter username and password it sent me to command prompt not GUI ?
07:03
highvoltage, do you have any idea
07:04
<highvoltage>
khussein78: that might need a ltsp-update-sshkeys and then ltsp-update-image
07:04
khussein78: otherwise check /var/log/auth on the server
07:05
<khussein78>
highvoltage, ok let me try
07:06
<garymc>
anyone have any ideas to help me out, its causing issues in our small office
07:07
<highvoltage>
garymc: give some details on how it's configured. do you have 2 ethernet cards on the server? did the problem start occuring recently? is this a new installation?
07:07
<garymc>
its a HP proliant server it has to ethernet ports
07:07
<highvoltage>
garymc: how are those cards configured? do you get dhcp from the office network? what does "ifconfig" and "route" say while you lose internet?
07:07
<garymc>
i did an update before christmas and I ran into a few problems
07:08
its just the thin clients
07:08
the actual server doesnt lose internet
07:08
<highvoltage>
do you use local apps?
07:08
<garymc>
local apps?
07:08
<highvoltage>
you probably don't then. local apps are applications that run on the thin client cpu/ram

G'morning folks. What's the preferred way to implement auto shutdown on thin clients? I'm using 10.04
10:23
<mgariepy>
Mip5, SHUTDOWN_TIME in lts.conf ?

Well, I've edited lts.conf, pointed the clients to the server for ntp (after adding ntp to the server). We'll see what happens at 4p today! Thanks.

<mgariepy>
any of you use freerdp on thin client?
12:45
<highvoltage>
not me I swear
12:46
<alkisg>
I think Gadi was looking to make a screen script for that
12:46
It's not command-line compatible with rdesktop, is it?
12:46
<mgariepy>
i was just wondering how well it works
12:46
<alkisg>
Better than rdesktop, and also has a future...
12:46
<mgariepy>
i have no idea
12:47
yeah i guess so.
12:48
but i would like to have users feedback tho :)
12:48
haha
12:48
<alkisg>
Well I tried to use all of those as a user, but quickly got frustrated because of the slow response
12:49
The same with the MS client too, so I decided that rdp* is not for me :)
12:50
<highvoltage>
things that have a future FTW!
12:51
<Mip5>
I edited my lts.conf and added SHUTDOWN_TIME = "16:00:00" and also added ntp on the server, so the thin clients would know when 4p was. Does that sound right?
12:51
<alkisg>
Yup, LTSP was the only remote-desktop solution that I could work with, for longer than 1 hour.
12:51
Mip5: for ntp to work you also need TIME_SERVER in lts.conf
12:52
TIMESERVER, no dash
12:52
<Mip5>
alkisg: thanks - I forgot to mention that, but I did add that. Thanks.
12:53
<vagrantc>
i used freerdp with the ltsp screen script
12:53
<mgariepy>
you will need to have cron installed in the thin client chroot, not sure it is be default.
12:53
<vagrantc>
it was commandline compatible enough to work
12:53
not in any production environment, but just for testing it

FAT_RAM_THRESHOLD is a way to separate thin from fat clients based on RAM
13:58
There's also LTSP_FATCLIENT, and I think those 2 are all
