<knipwim>
can the "username" and "password" fields in the ldm greeter be customized?
05:06
<Ryan52>
what do you mean by "customized"?
05:06
<knipwim>
change the content, to another language
05:07
<Ryan52>
you mean like the word username?
05:07
<knipwim>
yes
05:07
change to "gebruikersnaam" (dutch)
05:08
<Ryan52>
I think that if you just set up locales in your chroot as normal it will work fine.

06:07
at pxe client I get ldm login screen, but can not login, after giving username and password, it returns back to login screen..... help please
06:07
<knipwim>
did you copy the servers sshkeys to the chroot?
06:07
with ltsp-update-sshkeys
06:08
<dipeshmehta>
yes
06:08
<knipwim>
is Xforwarding on for the sshd server?
06:09
<dipeshmehta>
can you please tell me how to check this?
06:09
<knipwim>
nano /etc/ssh/sshd_config on the server
06:11
<dipeshmehta>
yes, it has "X11Forwarding yes" line
06:12
<knipwim>
hmm, i don't know then
06:13
<dipeshmehta>
ok, no prob., thanks anyway

and it worked for "preferences"

<Ryan52>
maybe that part isn't translated? lemme look.
07:04
hmm...
07:04
I see the problem.
07:05
there is no dutch translation.
07:05
<knipwim>
where are the translations located?
07:06
<Ryan52>
do you know how translations work?
07:06
somewhere in /usr/share/locale
07:06
tho that's in binary form.
07:06
you gotta build from source.
07:07
knipwim: I'm sure that we would be happy to have dutch translations if you'd be willing to translate for us :)
07:07
<knipwim>
sure
07:09
but i'm quite clueless, do i need to make an ldm.mo file in /usr/share/locale/nl/LC_MESSAGES/ ?
07:09
or is there a ltsp translation howto or something?
07:10
<Ryan52>
no, but if you give me a few minutes I'll figure out how to and try to teach you :)

07:20
<Ryan52>
knipwim: what os and version are you using?
07:26
okay, so basically how this works is that you are gonna install poedit and download http://ryan52.info/~ryan52/ldm.pot
07:26alkisg has joined #ltsp

<Ryan52>
knipwim: oh, wait, alkisg can explain it waaaaaay better I'll bet. :)
07:27
alkisg: you busy? :)
07:27* alkisg looks at the logs...
07:27
<alkisg>
Ryan52: no really, just eating a snack.. let me see
07:27
<Ryan52>
alkisg: knipwim is wanting a Dutch translation for ldm.
07:27
<knipwim>
installing poedit
07:28
<alkisg>
Ah, ok. Yeah, either poedit, kbabel, gtranslator, whatever, open the .po file and translate! :)
07:29
knipwim: "do i need to make an ldm.mo file in /usr/share/locale/nl/LC_MESSAGES/" > yes, but in the chroot, not on the server
07:32
<knipwim>
after translation, i need to compile to po file to an mo file
07:32
<alkisg>
knipwim: when you've finished, send ldm.po in the ltsp-developer list to be included upstream.
07:33
Yes, that's a single line, let me look...
07:33
btw, what distro/version? E.g. Ubuntu had some problems with the initscripts and translations didn't work in 8.04, they did work in 8.10, and now they have problems again in 9.04... :(
07:34
<knipwim>
gentoo, ltsp5
07:34
<Ryan52>
knipwim: msgfmt nl.po
07:34
(maybe)
07:34
no.
07:35
okay, imma just shut up and let alkisg handle it, since alkisg has actually translated stuff :)
07:37
"msgfmt -o nl.mo nl.po", maybe.
07:37
<alkisg>
Ryan52: well, I've just install jaunty, so I'm not really organized now to find the command line, feel free to help whenever you can! From what I see in google (and if I remember correctly), something like `msgfmt -cv -o ldm.mo nl.po` should do it.
07:37
<Ryan52>
there we go. :)
07:37
<knipwim>
aight
07:37
thanks guys
07:38
<alkisg>
knipwim: you'll also need gnome-language-pack-nl to translate the "Preferences" button
07:38
I mean, you'll need to install it in the chroot
07:39
<knipwim>
that's the weird thing, it is already translated by the LANG=nl_nl.utf8" env variable
07:39
<Ryan52>
knipwim: that's because the Preferences button comes from gtk, wheras the username thing is our own.
07:40
<alkisg>
knipwim: ah, it looks like gentoo already took care of this for you. :)
07:40
<knipwim>
yep, i see the gtk20.mo and gtk20-properties.mo files
07:46
it worked

dahopkins: the use can login localy ?

dahopkins: mm may be u need to ltsp-update-sshkey ?
12:31
ur using image right ? nbd ?
12:32
<dahopkins>
thin client boots, using nbd (if that is the default)
12:32
Haven't done anything with ltsp-update-sshkey
12:32
<DarKnesS_WolF>
ok try it
12:32
and then ltsp-update-image
12:33
restart xinent or nbd service and reboot the thinclient and check
12:33
<dahopkins>
so ... where is ltsp-update-sshkey?
12:34
<DarKnesS_WolF>
dahopkins: on the LTSP server
12:34

12:41
<dahopkins>

12:49
<dahopkins>
fat clients are also on the agenda as is moving to nfs. but I use ldap with 1300+ accounts so not sure about the adding users part
