<alkisg>
I want to start implementing the various RUN_COMMAND_ON_LTSP_PHASE_XXX= directives, and I wanted to chat about the phases and their names... e.g. initrd_xx, xinit_xx, session_xx... so that then we can e.g. say RC_SESSION_01 (or RC_SESSION_GUESTS with the newer convension that doesn't require numbers) = "find . -delete" in lts.conf to implement guest sessions
06:13
Is "RC_*" a good prefix? Or do we want the longer "COMMAND", e.g. "INITRD_COMMAND_xx", "INIT_COMMAND_XX" etc?
06:14* vagrantc prefers longer prefixes in general
06:15
<vagrantc>
RC is also a bit overloaded ... /etc/rc.local, RC_FILE* , etc.
06:16
<alkisg>
Having a common prefix is nice too, it's easier to separate the Run Commands if they start with RC, rather than if they have COMMAND inside the variable name
06:16
rc.local, rc_file, rc.d etc are good examples of this, yes
06:16
<vagrantc>
at any rate, i was about to call it a day
06:16
<alkisg>
Ah
06:17
OK, another time then

Oh, sorry. :D Didn't read well. To webchat.freenode.net with nick preset with hostname.

<highvoltage>
end of an era
10:16
<quinox>
My current LTSP clients can reboot/shutdown themselves, the 15.04 ones couldn't. It would say "rebooting" and then nothing. Just curious, what part of the system can break this?
10:19
<alkisg>
quinox: is this on thin clients, and inside the user session? which desktop environment?
10:20
<quinox>
right sorry, fat clients - both inside a user session and at LightDM when it would "A new image is available" and/or using the reboot button in the login screen
10:21
awesome, gnome, kde didn't matter
10:21
<alkisg>
Ah the 15.04 could not, yeah systemd was broken then, i fixed it later on
10:21
(systemd on ubuntu)
10:22
<quinox>
ah
10:23
the infamous systemd
10:24
I don't have an opinion on it yet but on slashdot there's alwaya a lot of fighting over whether it's good or bad :)
10:24
<alkisg>
It's fine, it was a problem with the ubuntu packaging, bringing down the network interfaces that were used for file systems
10:25
I like systemd, I hope it will spread like a cancer and standarize all things between distributions so that distributions will only be a selection of packages and nothing more :D
10:26
<quinox>
:)
10:35
<Hyperbyte>
Wait, let me just write this down here
10:35
This is a historic moment.
10:36
!learn systemd as 2015-11-29 11:25 <alkisg> I like systemd
10:36
<ltsp>
The operation succeeded.
10:36
<alkisg>
Haha
10:37
I hate having to do things in 12938423874 different ways because each distro wants to do things its own way
10:37
<Hyperbyte>
Seriously. I remember it took quite a bit even convincing you to take a look at it. :P
10:38
<alkisg>
E.g. there's /etc/network/if-up.d in debian, ubuntu etc, but /etc/network-manager/dispatcher.d is cross distro, so that makes me like network manager :)
10:39
I would have to support systemd in the packages I maintain in the future, but I just didn't want to do it too prematurely
10:39
Ideally, I would only do it when all distros that I care about switched to systemd
10:39
Unfortunately ltsp on ubuntu broke before that point, so I had to look at it sooner...
10:44
<Hyperbyte>
Well, I'm glad you're onboard the systemd train. ;-)
10:44
You have come a long way from:
10:44
10 May 2010 10:52 <alkisg> johnny: never heard about systemd..
10:46
<alkisg>
In 10 May 2007, I also said: johnny: never heard about ltsp... (to a local friend name john here :))

<alkisg>
markit: the epoptes proposed ppa, i added it temporarily, so that you get the last epoptes version with the reconnections etc
12:55
<markit>
alkisg: so I can stay with the greek school for all the other installations and the future, ok, right and thanks again
12:56
<alkisg>
sure, the greek schools ppa is supposed to be rather stable, yes
12:56
<markit>
btw, even if you don't give someone assisting you sudo powers, as soon as he needs it and you enter the passwors, he can imediately write "sudo rm -r /" and will not need the password again
12:57
so you think you gave him permission only for that command you saw in the terminal while you have broken your security
12:58
and back to epoptes, what feature did it had that was present only in "proposed ppa"? I was under stress (programming class coming) and had no time to understand
12:58
<alkisg>
If you want, you can run sudo command; sudo -k
12:58
sudo -k revokes the sudo permission

http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~epoptes/epoptes/trunk/changes
12:59
Check the changes there from the previous version
12:59
One of the significant ones is that it's now very hard for the clients to "disappear" from the epoptes UI
12:59
As they reconnect etc
13:06
<markit>
alkisg: great, I really would love to have your knowledge

Phantomas ftw!
13:09
<markit>
Phantomas: sure, but feel free to send me an email when nwe translation is needed, unfortunately I don't follow this stuff very closely
13:12
<Phantomas>
markit: I think this will be all for 0.6.0. I'll try to remember notifying you before next releases :)
13:12
maybe we should find out a better notification system for all translators though. Maybe a group Epoptes Translators with a mailing list?
13:13
Or patch launchpad to give an option to notify translators when new strings occur :P
13:13
<markit>
Phantomas: depends upon the traffic on the ML, I've tons of ML I don't look at
13:13
Phantomas: the last one seems better, but if you add 100 strings... maybe weekly notification?
13:14
btw, translation done
13:14
<Phantomas>
markit: great, thanks :)
13:15* Phantomas feels a little bit like a hijacker when talking about Epoptes on the LTSP support channel :P
13:15
<markit>
Phantomas: I keep thanking you (and alkisg) for epoptes
13:15
well, without epoptes some of "my" schools will never had accepted LTSP, so not totally OT ;P
13:16
<Phantomas>
hehe :)
13:17
<markit>
btw, I had big dns resolv issues from the server in 14.04 due to strange behaviour of Avahi stuff
13:17
I had to remove/disable it, wireshark caputre shows weird things
13:17
don't understand if it was (is) a misconfiguration on my side or a weird effect of dnsmasq listening on "client" interface only or whatever
13:18
resolution took about 10 seconds each time
13:18
just to let you know and wondering if is a known problem

Phantomas: I've fixed LP: #1503820 and I've uploaded a build to the epoptes-proposed PPA.
16:06
Remaining things to do: 1) dnsmasq (LP: #1469044) or lts.conf hostname parsing, 2) avoid crashing with network benchmark and 2 NICs, one of them without IP.
16:06
I think then we'll be ready to do a stable 0.6 release.
